Pretty important tidbit from Buckeye insider on a key lineup piece. Not linking entire thread but it's from ohiowrestling.net

looks more & more likely Isaiah White not entering Ohio st, probably going to OTC. .. Notre Dame college was also in the picture.

loss of Marinelli a huge blow.

There was some indication recently when his name wasn't mentioned by Tom Ryan when he was running down the lineup. Didn't know if it was just because he was redshirting or something else, like this?

That's too bad for him and tOSU. He has great potential. Thought he had cleared the academic hurdles. Now, not so bad for us, though

Huge loss for Ohio State. A fully dedicated White would have been scary. Best of luck to him

From what was reported, he was a longshot to qualify all along. Didn't stress when he wasn't in the picture for Iowa.

Sadly, this is no surprise to me. He had a 0.7 Cumulative GPA after his sophomore year. Kamal Bey also would not have been academically eligible if he chose to go the college route. I hope this isn't a trend at OPRF as they have quite a few hammers in the wrestling program.

0.7? Yikes. That's DDay from Animal House territory. In today's world of grade inflation, a GPA that terrible would take hard work.

Silly question on my part not requiring a real answer, but how does one become a Junior with a .7 GPA as a Sophomore?

Flunking out is now not an option. Wouldn't want to hurt the kid's self-esteem. I remember my first two weeks as a freshman. I failed a biology quiz and it made me ineligible for two games (I mean shit, really?). So we finally had another quiz, I got an A and got back on the field. Except, I got in a fight (I was the new kid) and got thrown into in school suspension making me ineligible for the third game. Luckily, coach intervened and got me and the stoner kid out I fought with out.

You went to Ridgemont High with Jeff Spicoli?

I have been incognito for some obvious reasons and some not so obvious reasons.

Can you attach your name to your message board post of what you are asserting are a teenager's grades from a couple years ago (while tossing in another kid and entire program that was not the subject)? Crazy thing about the internet is that even when some unverifiable source throws something out there that isn't refuted, it gets accepted as fact at a greater rate than it probably should.

BTW, I know we tend to only pay attention to the top athletes but since I have been associated with the program what you claim is not a trend. Kids that wrestled at OPRF have gone on to attend Northwestern, Stanford, Naval Academy, Marquette... school being paid for because of what they did in the classroom and not the mat occurs more often than the unfortunate non qualifier..

Good to see you posting again.

So in other words, OPRF is like every other High School on the planet.

Careful... Slim's in a fragile state of mind for the obvious, and apparently not so obvious, reasons.

OPRF wouldn't be the first high profile program to cater to wrestlers and their academic performance. Not saying they are the biggest culprit. But one thing is clear... with the demands of what it takes to excel on the mat, sometimes academics takes a back seat with some kids and their parents.

If true, how in the world did he stay eligible to even wrestle in high school? Do high schools no longer have minimum gpa requirements in order to participate in sports? It sure looks like they did a disservice to this kid.

Aww...like the sun rising in the East, here comes Mitch with a parent-troll. Next thing you'll write is that parents shouldn't post on message boards...because you'll give them a reason not to, eh? I'll remind you that we have an OPRF guy on our team.

We have a guy from OPRF? Really? What difference does that make to the argument on whether wrestlers at some schools get preferential treatment? Answer... it doesn't!

How many AAs has that specific high school, one of the supposed best in Illinois, had in the last five years? Again I'll answer... not too many.

My statement was a general comment, but you chose to make it personal. Wasn't intended to be that way. Hell, in my hometown wrestling program... a certain successful wrestler moved into the home of the head coach so as to be monitored and coddled. It happens.

Many, many athletes, in several different sports get that treatment. Just another testament to where some people's priorities are. It'a a societal issue.

But for me to be a "troll" I'd have to rip on the Gopher program and I've got other things to do today. There will be a day and time for that, I suspect, later this summer.:p

And you know this for a fact...how? And yes, Sammy Brooks is from OPRF and if you denigrate a whole school, you denigrate him. Kind of like someone coming on here and going after Iowa.

Actually seemed pretty personal to me. You alluded to PBS's kid's troubles with this statement:

Then you come back and play the victim..."Who me?"

I count 3 OPRF guys. Brooks and the two Dardanes. Have all 3 been all-americans? I know at least two have. Either way not too shabby for a high school.

It doesn't matter if you provide facts, when dealing with MitchL in a discussion about OPRF, the Gophs or ISU. He is so blinded by his disdain that he can't even make an objective post.

On a happier note, it's nice to have PBS posting again.
