Bump will be the honorary captain for the Michigan game this weekend in Ann Arbor. What a great tribute to one of the best men in all of athletics.

Just a couple notes on Bump the player/coach/AD. I believe he is one of very few if not the only one to play in the Rose, coach in the Rose and be AD in the Rose. Several great on field accomplishments, but the person he is outside of football is what makes him even greater.

Congrats Bump!

Playing career
1943–1944
Purdue
1946–1947 Michigan
Position(s) Halfback
Coaching career
1948
Michigan (backfield)
1949–1951 Oregon State (assistant)
1952–1956 Iowa (assistant)
1957–1958 Michigan (backfield)
1959–1968 Michigan
Administrative career
1969–1970
Michigan (associate AD)
1970–1991 Iowa

I know some don't like Harbaugh - but I wouldn't doubt he was behind this honor for Bump. The families have been friends forever.

Knew he was a "Michigan Man" but had no idea he started his playing career at Purdue. I guess a little thing called WWII intervened.

Part of The Greatest Generation, he is. As mentioned, he certainly made two of the greatest hires at Iowa.
