Cambria Classic - Pitching Rotation

I’ll say this about Iowa Baseball under Rick Heller. They never stop fighting and we’ve seen that against two probable NCAA Tournament teams the last two days and teams that have played some high level baseball. Iowa is currently 4-4 and I’ve seen teams with tough schedules like this before in the early season. You stay within a game or two of .500 and take care of business in games you should win, don’t lose RPI killers, and do well in conference then you’re right there come regionals.

The Pittsburgh loss still hurts.

Yup Pitt sucks but so far they are 9-1

This weekend . .

North Carolina State: 2-0
Duke: 2-0
Iowa: 1-1
Minnesota: 1-1
Purdue: 0-2
North Carolina: 0-2

Today . .
Iowa v. Duke
Minnesota v. NC State
Purdue v. North Carolina [EDIT: Purdue up 4-0 in B7 as I typed this]

When the dust settles, if Iowa can somehow figure out a way to beat Duke, it will have been a successful weekend. Perhaps a very successful weekend.

EDIT#2 . . . apparently Iowa isn't the only B1G team whose bullpen is struggling. Purdue gives up 3 in B7 (4-3 Purdue); scores one back in T8 (5-3 Purdue) and gives up 2 more in B8 (tied at 5). Currently in B9, tied at 5 and the Purdue 'pen gives up a lead-off walk.

EDIT #3 . . . sliding grab of a "laser" (Purdue announcer's description) by Purdue's CFer prevents UNC from winning in B9. Bases were juiced and the UNC hitter had a 3-1 count. Question for someone . . . Purdue radio announcer said that they are "headed to extra innings and are on the clock." Anyone know what "on the clock" means? Are these games timed to ensure that all 3 games are played today?

EDIT #4 . . . UNC wins. Lead off single. Walk off double. Also, Purdue's announcer suggested that these games may have a 3 or 3.5 hour time limit.

Sometimes there is a time a limit OR if an inning starts at a certain time it’s the last one.

I’m not sure what the plans are for the future, but I’d love to see Iowa in this every year. It’s a close trip and bring in three different ACC schools. Could bring in Miami, Florida State, and Clemson next year as an example.

Payton Williams jacks a 2 run shot in B4. Hawks tie it up!

EDIT: On to T5, game tied.

T5 . . . Duke's first batter (no. 9 in lineup) goes yard. Now 3-2 Duke. Second batter records his third hit of the game. Bullpen getting active.

EDIT: 2 out gap double scores another for Duke. Sigh. 3 runs scored by Duke with 2 outs in this game . . . all driven in by their clean up hitter.

I made a comment a little bit ago why Iowa don’t use Probst more well think might know why now can’t throw strikes

Wow. Beutel leaves all three runners stranded after coming in with the bases juiced and no outs. Bullet dodged. 2-3-4 for the Hawks in B6. Good time to start a rally.

EDIT . . . and as I type, Fullard smokes a lead off single to start the B6.

EDIT . . . a dose of their own medicine . . . after 2 ground outs, a single by Adreon cuts Duke's lead to 1. Baby steps.

Oh boy. Nedved with a solid T8. Pop up followed by two swinging Ks. Heading to B8 and Iowa could use a few insurance runs. Duke will have 2-3-4 coming up in T9.
