Can Goodale/Rutgers come so far?

Lewis doesn't make weight again...Oh boy...Does he bump to 165 tonight against Martsteller?

125 - Suriano Fall Rutgers 6 - 0
133 - DelVecchio Win Rutgers 9 - 0
141 - Turk Win Rutgers 9 - 3
149 - Sorenson Major Rutgers 9 - 7
157 - Kemerer Win Iowa 10 - 9
165 - Young Win Iowa 13 - 9
174 - Gunther Win Iowa 16 - 9
184 - Gravina Win Iowa 16 - 12
197 - Wilkce Win Iowa 19 - 12
HWT - Stoll Fall Iowa 25 - 12
Only way RU wins is if Ash goes and Lewis takes out Kemerer.

"Honestly, we got our butt kicked," coach Scott Goodale told ScarletKnights.com."Other than our first two guys, who we expect those performances from, they out-wrestled us in every single position.

"We did a lot of laying on our belly. We couldn't get off the bottom, so that was disappointing from that standpoint. Their game plan was great, they were in better shape than us, they were tougher than us and they out-hustled us."

What an indictment against himself. That's all coaching. One or two guys is an individual thing. A whole team performance has a common denominator.

Match is going to be Great because there are so many question marks from both teams. Still waiting to put up prediction but if RU is not up by 7 @285 its over.

Hopefully our RU squad will reward the near sell out crowd with some good efforts. Lewis is expected to be at 157 for the big showdown.
With very little folk style matches for him the last 12 months, Kemerer has to be a big favorite.

The RAC gets very loud, with even a half a crowd, so a full house should make for a great atmosphere. Home mat advantage is sometimes under appreciated.

Also, I wonder if wrestlers take duals as seriously as us fans, lol. With no true Dual NCAA championship tourny, or even Big10 dual champ named, it seems only March is important.

I think NCAA wrestling misses the boat, hurting the overall health of the sport, by not having a true champ wrestled down to, before the individual tournys start in March. Almost every state does it this way for HS wrestling, without many issues.

@Edq, Grello took him out in a head to head so some mat time was needed

CP indicated on FRL that the Bull should be in the lineup on Friday.

Will there be any other changes to the lineup? I like Turk but after the last couple matches it may be good to give him the night off and get his mind right and get ready for Midlands. Could we see the coaches give Happel a shot?

2 things that are undeniably unquestionable. Iowa is Iowa and Rutgers is Rutgers.

I was at the meet the last time Iowa came to Rutgers. This one has a significantly different feel. Fans were excited to watch the mighty Hawkeyes come to town, even though they expected a blood bath. This time they're even more excited, because they have reason to believe they can win.

So I respectfully suggest it's possible Rutgers isn't Rutgers, any more; nor is Iowa still Iowa.

I made a prediction earlier in this thread where I said Rutgers does indeed have a shot to win this meet, followed by a qualifier and predicted score. After Friday's performance by the Hawks, this could be a toss up.

25 starts them off with at least 5 team points, if he gets 6, we better hope 49 and 57 do what they are capable of, we're going to need the points.

From what I've seen, Rutgers is definitely Rutgers, and Iowa wins by 8 or more.

I think we see Laux and Turk go against Rutgers. Laux has wrestled Delvec a few times and last time Laux weight in at 125 and Delvec 133. Will see how a bigger Laux fares any better. Turk can beat Van Brill but I give him no chance against Anthony. If they both lose I bet we see Glynn and Happel two days latter against Maryland.

125 Suriano by tec. I'm hoping Stick can keep it to a MD, Fall would be a killer. 5-0
133 I give this to Rutgers, but Laux could pull the upset. I don't think Laux gives up bonus. 8-0
141 Toss up here. Really need Turk to win to make this dual less stressful. I think we see Van Brill and I'll give him the win for now. 11-0
149 BS will win but we need a MD here. Guy he is wrestling is Game and will be trying to win which will open him up allowing BS to get a major. Ilinois guy was super clingy and at no time was looking to win that match. 11-4
Kemerer with a dec. Lewis is good but Kem will win. I hope Kem will want to make a statement here and get the MD. Lewis in folk on one hour weigh-in may be problematic when it comes to Kem pace 11-7
165- hoping for the Bull and I give him MD I give Young dec 11-11
174- Gunther by dec 11-14
184- Bowman needs to stay away for Gravina's slideby. We saw in Illinois dual that Bowman is Game and I think he will hold this lose to a dec. 14-14
197 toss up here. Wilcke lost to him last year at midlands by a small margin, but Wilcke is improved. I'll give Iowa the win to ice the dual17-14

Excellent post. Makes me sweat just reading it. You made one small error, if Young gets the decision, we trail 10-11. plus 4 for Gunther makes it 13-11. If Suriano gets the pin and BS gets a decision, not a major, that puts us at (based on what you have) 12-12 going in to 84. That's sketchy considering what could happen at 84 and 97.

Good news on Marinelli. I wouldn't be at all opposed to giving Happel a shot. We need to come out firing. This could be a closer dual than we care to admit.

Solid prediction but Wilcke IOWA beat Mulligan last year at Midlands 6-2.

I disagree. We'll come back to this Friday evening.

Hope you're right. Just to clarify, though, my thinking is just that Rutgers fans actually believe they can win. And they aren't being delusional. So this in itself is a sign that this isn't the old Rutgers, nor is this the old Iowa.

I think Goodale has done a good job and is going to be able to keep recruiting good talent in a state that has multiple wrestling factory schools.

yea ash staying home to wrestle was a big shot in the arm for that program.

True but I was giving the Bull the MD to make it 11-11 and the dec Gunther makes it 14-11 Iowa. I think it will be 14-14 going into 197 and we will win the last two weights. Difference in this dual and Illinois dual is we are not going to lose both 125 and 165. That is what killed us against Illinois giving up 5 at 165. We should get 3-4 there making it a 8-9 point swing.
