It would be awesome to see Iowa reach the #1 spot like it did in 1985 after Rob Houtlin booted the winning field goal. I know it's unlikely, however I have seen stranger things happen, game by game men.. It could iron out that way at some point in this magical season 2

And IF they can go unscathed and beat Meatchicken hopefully the boys a head of us lose ... Lots of opportunities for this to happen. But it's almost impossible.. Will see! GO HAWKS!

Minor point, but Iowa was already #1 going into that Michigan game in 1985.

Yep, if a lot of teams in the Top 5 go down, and an undefeated Iowa team beats an undefeated Michigan team, then there is a chance Iowa could be #1. I just don't see Alabama losing to anyone.

Alabama, Clemson, FSU, and Ohio State would all have to lose a game in order for Iowa to jump them. Probably a handful of other teams too.

Thankfully, Clemson and FSU play each other at the end of October. I believe Ohio State has to go to Oklahoma and has a couple other tough games. Alabama won't lose.

Expecting Alabama to lose might be asking a lot. They were pretty unbelieveable against USC.

Bama plays AT LSU on Nov 5 and OSU plays at Wisconsin October 15th. Those two games going right way with Iowa undefeated could but them in top 2 going into the Michigan game.

The 2nd half of that game is fools gold because USC flat out quit. They wanted no part of being there anymore. Alabama is good but they're not that good.
You do realize you have to crush a team in order to get them to lay down and submit correct? Saying the 2nd half was fools gold only leads to how dominant they were in the first half.

No chance. 2 at best. Even if we ran the table after championship week. A 1 loss Bama or Clemson would still get more votes. Laugh all you want. But, im concerned about that Penn State game. Especially if it's a night game.

If they beat Wisconsin and Wisconsin doesn't lose to anybody else it could happen. Well, Ohio State, Clemson, Alabama, Texas, and Florida State would all have to lose as well. I don't think an undefeated Iowa, jumps ahead of those teams if they are undefeated as well. But the question was basically asking if they could, and it is possible.

Win out and we get the only # 1 recruiting that matters. Anyone know how many #1 teams there were in 07? A 2 loss LSU won the title over a 1 loss tOSU. Illinois, South Florida and Kentucky were all top 10 teams that year with South Florida at 2, oh and LSU lost to Kentucky! Oh Michigan lost to App. ST. too, whatever.

Simple answer is no, not even if undefeated regular season and win conferance champs too at 13-0.

We would have to win a national championship.

And SEC is weak even if Alabama who is going to coast through the SEC slips up one game they will still be ahead of Iowa. SEC is the worst this year than it has been in the last 12 years. Big Ten is better this year than SEC, it has gotten weaker every year for the last 4 years even ESPN has some articles about it which is shocking to me, they probably fired the person who wrote it right afterwards.

For the sake of CFB, i hope not...did you not see stanford(cali speed) and iowa?....too much speed for lil ole iowa...stick to the citrus bowl

Yes & I fully expect it to happen. Just don't see anybody on our schedule that'll beat us. If we get our defense to stiffen up.

no chance, Iowa could be undefeated and still won't happen for one reason: Alabama. Did you guys see them crush USC, they aren't losing this year, bookit'

There's a chance it isn't at night:confused:

No. I'll take 9-3 and a decent bowl and enjoy the season. If this is a typical year we drop one game we don't expect to. If we split with Wisconsin, Penn State, Michigan, and Nebraska that takes us to 9-3.

We have a big target on our backs now and if we don't think realistic there's going to be a bunch of disappointment on this board.

Seriously has Cal football done anything of relevance since your player ran over the Stanford band member?

No.

I sure hope fans aren't "expecting" a 12-2 season again or chances are they will be disappointed. There are several teams on the schedule that can beat the Hawks. Michigan will be favored to beat them.

Can we please beat ISU before this nonsense starts?
