Can someone give me a specific example of a situation where a DEI hire

That is inherently false. When put any qualifiers on eligibility for anything, you are shrinking the pool.
Your thought is correct but that’s not reality. Reality and history shows that in your scenario 5 white dudes are interviewed for the 5 positions. Thus a narrow sighted non diverse pool. There is a reason diverse hiring practices were implemented.

You are correct to extent though.

You tell people to work hard and pick themselves out of the poor depths of society yet won’t throw them a rope to climb out? Just let them drown instead. Most aren’t asking to be plucked out of the water, they just want a legitimate chance to get out.
Do they not have greater acceptance rates or access to financial aid and grants? That is increased access to me. At what point is the field leveled? I think this where Dems and Republicans aren’t aligned.

And there has to be a way to find common middle ground. The idea behind DEI is right. Problem is one side is riddled with discrimination and wants nothing to do with it. Not even find common ground.

Minorities (not just skin color) are at a massive disadvantage in this country, that’s a fact that can’t be argued. How do we help them have access to the same luxuries that straight white men get? Opportunity to put them into places to succeed. Without hiring initiatives many will never get their shot because the country (not saying it’s all racism, sexism or homophobia) has an underlying bias of others that is nowhere close to going away.

In reality, most positions really come down to two applicants and interviewers. The issue I have is I might really think I have a great vision for a role and can illustrate this in an interview but might not get the chance solely because they need to hit their interviewing metric. Again, I’ve made it to where I’m comfortable but that as not the case for everyone. I don’t disagree that there are good ol’ boys that hire people they are “comfortable” with but that is more based upon networking and relationship than anything.

I work at a Fortune 100 company. I’ve done well for myself but I don’t have aspirations of being a VP or even a Director level either. What I can tell you is my company has been very transparent that in order for them to fill a position they need to have interviewed at least one woman or minority interviewed. They interview at least 3 but no more than 5 for every position. Simple math tells you that every opportunity for a promotion me went down by 20% solely because I’m a white male. Explain to me how that isn’t a racist hiring practice and how that doesn’t affect me?

Was held to lower qualifications and/or training?

Sounds more like a legacy nepo baby issue.

I know in aviation, hiring from a larger pool of diverse candidates everyone is still hired and trained to the exact same ****ing standards.
My company got caught up in DEI hire. That’s all they would look to hire, and they did. However, most could not pass the aulifactions, series 7, 65, etc. less than 20%. They held with it for 18 months and started to ease away. Now it’s not apart of the mission statement.

How will I ever go throughout my day if you don’t believe me?
Don’t care if you believe it. OP asked for examples and it was close to home. There are more but you have to take those glasses off to see it.

I work for a university. I do not see lower training standards. I do see all people being held to lower standards, but especially females.

In industry where I have a dual career, lot's of cronies type stuff.

Stupidity abounds in both sectors.
This. Business in my town absolutely will not fire a horrible supervisor because they are a female of color and fear reprisal.

Is it really different? I’d say it’s based on privilege and born of the same “feelings”.
Yes, they are different. I’ll give you the argument for feelings about DEI being the cause for retaining those who shouldn’t be. But that is a separate issue and should be addressed. DEI pertains to hiring practices not firing.

Bitter white males. Do some research into how many white males make up ATC. Also, it didn’t lower the qualifications or training standards. They must weren’t white. I guess that’s a needed qualification in your eyes? Thousands of white males are hired all the time into atc. Not going to cry foul because some didn’t get hired.

Also not reading the nypost.
Great post from one of the boards bitter'est of bitter white males lol

If what gets you hired keeps you from getting fired they aren’t wholly separate.
