Cannot believe Fran missed 7-8 bunny layups...

Lol. I see what you did there.

In all seriousness though, does fran not have these guys practice layups and free throws in practice?

I kid.

Seriously though. How in the hell do we miss so many layups?

the game is played at an extremely fast pace that none of you would even begin to understand or will ever experience. the players are always off balance, lunging, reeling etc trying to put the ball in the bucket.

most of you clunkers would miss layups given a free lane to the hoop and going half speed.

it's not as easy as it looks from your couch or barstool.

It really is incredibly spectacular, bordering on magic, that so many other players at this level can actually make those shots. o_O

I played HS ball and was a pretty good shooter from deep. In fact that's the only reason I played. I'm 35 and just started playing pick up ball again, and I cannot make a fast break lay up to save my life. Going full speed and having the touch and spin while dudes are coming at you, I can see why these guys miss lay ups. Granted, a lot of the bunnies you guys speak of not on fast breaks and should have never been missed....

As a wise man earlier in this thread stated, "see other team do this consistently, see us inexplicably miss a huge percentage", we are not referring to 35 yr old pick up games. These guys have lived with bball as their main interest and passion for a long time at this point. Not intended to bash any of them, it happens. The original point was not this.

But watch this team shoot the layup, they look like the are expecting to get fouled rather than make the shot. Often going away from basket instead of to the hoop, look weak performing this basic basketball move. And most of our team shoots with their right hand on what should be a left hand layup which needs a different spin. And Woody being left handed almost refuses to even shoot from right side as he doesn't take the shot or moves to left side of basketball.
Guys, the layup is the very first shot a basketball player learns and our guys have trouble executing that play. I'm sure they were taught correctly back when they were five years old but for some reason they lose that skill when Fran gets them

I'm not bitching about it but making excuses for missing layups is pretty silly.

It's not suposed to be hard for a college basketball player to make a layup.

Missing a layup, might be similar to a professional golfer missing a 2 or 3 foot putt. #@$% happens.

Uhl looks like a guy that has always loved the 3pt shot and never developed a post game/dribble drive game. He has handles, size, quickness...but is a spaz around the basket. Hard to correct a fundamental problem this far into his B-ball life. Earlier in season, Fran said he wanted Uhl to dunk more....probably because he had seen enough missed layups in practice.

All that said, it is easier to correct missed layups than turn a player like Woody into a jumping jack.
