Car buying: new standard brand or used luxury brand

One man’s “ugly” is another’s “ beauty”…
I question anyone's judgment of beauty who finds that grill attractive.

It would be interesting to be sitting at home watching TV and my wife just roles up with a new car unbeknownst to me. Also, I never looked at it as "asking permission", we do everything together and make all decisions as a team. Maybe I should have worded it like this. Her Grand Cherokee died. I said, let's look at a really nice Toyota or Honda since they're more reliable. She said, I'd rather have an Audi, Lexus, etc. Can we make that work with our budget?

Does that sound better for ya?
Hey if that works for you and your wife then good for you. Just a different world then what my wife and I live in is all. Would my wife just go buy a car and not tell me, no. But she would tell me hey I'm getting X for myself to drive and I would just nod and smile is all.

You can't go wrong with a newer (or hell, older) Toyota/Lexus. Get a Limited version of a Toyota or highest equipped Lexus you can swing and just run it till your sick of it or it dies at 500k miles (if it dies at all).

I know you said crossover, but if an AWD sedan would work I'd look for an LS500 F Sport. Killer looks and great tech.

Even with 150k miles, you'll get good money out of it if you sell it outright down the road.

The shit just works like it's supposed to.

There's a reason almost every manufacturer worth a damn in the world runs some version of the Toyota Production System.

Understood and if she needs to be a stay at home Mom (aka a prison matron to teenagers - I was one) I completely get that.
Not everyone knows that a 16 year old seriously takes more work than a 10 month old. 🤣
Only if you raise them poorly.

True. I've been trying to kill off my 2011 Sienna with 190k for several years but the damn thing runs as well as it did when it rolled off of the assembly line. I want something else, but I've turned into one of those people that can't get rid of things until they stop working. That stupid car is going to outlive me without any major repairs.
