If Iowa wins along with Clemson and Bama, Iowa will be the 3 seed and Oklahoma will drop to 4. Why? No way they put OU in Dallas as a visitor.

If Clemson loses and Iowa wins, I could see the committee putting OU 2 and Iowa 3. JMO

I don't understand what you mean in the first scenario? That it would be unfair for Oklahoma's opponent to have to play them in Dallas?

As to the second scenario, who would the fourth team be? OSU? If that's the case, then the committee would potentially be setting up an all B1G title game which I would think they wouldn't want to do, but I don't know.

I believe you're correct, but I also believe there is some chance that Iowa could jump OU, and possibly even Bama with a Conference Championship. Our best win would be better than both of theirs, and we'd have no losses. We would have 2 top 15 wins, though they'd have more T25 wins (probably).

I agree the B1G winner will jump OU and be 3 with Clemson/Alabama winning. If either of those lose, the B1G winner will be 2.

Either way I think Iowa will play Bama. Under no circumstances will OU play in Dallas unless they are a 1 or 2 seed which they won't be.

Spartan fan here...if MSU were to win, do you think the committee would manipulate the rankings so MSU wouldnt play in the Cotton BowL for the second year in a row? If the committee is looking at $$$, they would probably favor putting MSU in Miami right?

I think Iowa should be at least 2 if they win, they would be undefeated and have a better win than both Bama and OU, same goes for MSU if they win. It gets real interesting if Clemson or Bama loses this weekend, would they committee really put OSU in the playoff and leave the loser of the BTCC out?

If Clemson loses and Iowa wins we would play Oklahoma. Bama vs. Ohio State. If Clemson wins we'd probably jump Oklahoma and get Bama.

If we lose we will miss the Rose bowl and I'll bask in an undefeated regular season. This will be the season we talk about for years regardless.

you make it sound like you have a secret source of info. you read this on TOS.

Yes. When I saw NC at 10 I instantly thought that it is exactly what OSU needed. They WILL jump the loser of The BTCC game and they need NC to beat Clemson, but NC will not be rewarded with a top 4 spot due to scheduling. Committee will not reward a team for that. It really comes down the the NC/Clemson game for OSU. NC wins and OSU is in along with BT Champ, Oklahoma and Alabama. And no, Florida has no shot at Alabama short of kick returns and defensive TDs for Florida. If this hold true then we go to the Rose Bowl IF we lose Saturday.

I have no source other than common sense and I certainly didn't read this on TOS. based on geography, the only way OU would be able play in Dallas is if they are 1 or 2. I don't see that happening.

If Clemson loses, I would almost guarantee that OSU gets jumped by a conference champion. It happened last year and it would happen again this year.

I agree...there is no way they put the chance of an Iowa Clemson game in the NC. I also think they want to see Oklahoma and Alabama play eachother. Those teams, coaches, and fan bases hate eachother and there are some serious verbal battles that have gone on over the past few years. Honestly...I'd love it if the top four would stay the same. :)

I really don't give a rats ass who we play or where we play them, I just want to beat MSU and go to the CFP at 13-0. House money is the best money to play with

I think if the Hawks win we stay at #4 and if we lose we go to #5. Same with MSU.

I couldn't find anything that said 1 vs 4 is the Orange bowl and 2 vs 3 is the Cotton Bowl. Just says game 1 and game 2

What about Stanford?

I agree. If Clemson loses and Stanford wins, I see the Cardinal jumping Ohio State for the 4th spot. The committee favors conference champs.

What about Stanford?

Good point....In my opinion Stanford needs to win convincingly. If so they would probably jump OSU. If it is a tight game....not sure. They will have the conference championship in their back pocket but two losses and a defending champ (I know they are not supposed to look at that but it has to in the back of their minds) and they way OSU destroyed Michigan.....just think that OSU can still slip in. If MSU beats us their only loss will have been to a top 3 team. (Meaning Clemson losing drops and they jump us obviously)....If Clemson wins it really does not matter....

I think if we lose and Stanford wins we are in the Rose. No way an idle #6 Ohio State teams stays ahead of a #7 Stanford that wins its CCG. And no way a undefeated, division champion who just lost their CCG drops more than 2 spots. Sets up #5 Iowa vs #6 Stanford in the Rose and #7 Ohio State vs #8 Notre Dame in the Fiesta. This all depends on Clemson taking care of business.

This the most likely scenario assuming the Hawks lose the CCG and Clemson wins their CCG.

I see them setting up Oklahoma vs. Alabama in the championship game with whatever scenario plays out. That's who they feel the best two teams are and who they anticipate winning the semis. It would definitely be funny if it blew up in their face and Clemson and Iowa won.

So you think if we lose we only drop one spot? I sure hope you are right. Then again I hope I don't have to worry about it either! I can see the committee in a lather thinking about an OSU/ND matchup.

The committee gives the number 1 seed the venue closest to campus. If Clemson is the 1 seed, they will play in the Orange Bowl. If Bama or OU is the 1 seed, they will play in the Cotton Bowl.

They really don't care who plays where after that.

By the way there IS a scenario that Iowa is not in the top tier of bowls.......not being negative but the Pac 12 for example, if Stanford ends up in the final 4 and Iowa loses to MSU and falls below OSU, then the Pac 12 can take Oregon as their replacement team even though they are currently ranked outside of the top teams in line for the bowls games. In other words they are taking someone else's spot because the Rose Bowl has the right to do that if they want a Big 10 - Pac 10 game. Long shot but weird stuff can happen. When someone says that the Peach is the worst case scenario, that is LIKELY true....not 100%

If Iowa loses, they will be lucky to still be in the Top 10. The committee is just waiting for Iowa to lose a game so they can be dropped like a hot potato.

I've never wanted an Iowa victory more than this coming Saturday.

The committee doesn't hate Iowa. The media hates Iowa. There are coaches on the committee that have a healthy respect for what Iowa is and what Iowa does on the field.

They will look after Alabama. Alabama is their cash cow. They don't really want Alabama to play Oklahoma in Dallas. Dallas is loaded with Oklahoma fans. There is a lot more at play then who people think are the 4 best teams ranked 1 - 4.

You can also tell that the committee is also hoping to somehow sneak Ohio St back in if Clemson and or Alabama goes down. They like their big name schools in these playoffs. Even if Stanford wins im not sure the get in over Ohio St if a spot opens back up. This is also why the Big 12 needs a conference championship. Clemson, Alabama and Iowa are all risking their playoff spot this weekend by playing an extra game while Oklahoma gets to just sit home. For the record I still think Ohio St is the best team in the country. They just had a stupid gameplan for that MSU game and they never believed they needed to change it. Now they get penalized for losing late in the season to the #5 team while Alabama and Oklahoma have had their losses to lesser opponents forgotten.

I think Packer's really negative scenario would also need UNC winning and getting into the playoff. Clemson would get a NY6 game, so it would us and ND for the final spot. If Clemson wins and Stanford is in playoff, and Rose takes OSU, I think we'd still be ahead of FSU.

If this doomsday scenario did occur, and committe can't justify us above OSU because we got blown out, I've speculated that it would be smart for Big Ten to push Rose to take us so that the higher ranked Buckeyes were assured of a NY6 spot - that would be way better for the conference than if we missed out. Rose Bowl is our conference's "partner", right?

The thing we have going for us is we would only have one loss.....very small chance of it happening. But I feel 13-0 coming on anyway.

At the risk of being seen as a conspiracy theorist, I don't think you can dismiss the fact that only the BiG and the SEC each have two representatives on the committee.

Well UI just sent out an email about bowl ticket prices and the quantity season ticket holders can order, and it did not include anything about the Citrus Bowl. So there's that.

If we lose it will be Rose, Fiesta or Peach in that order.

I am not going to contemplate where we'll go. A lot on the line on Saturday night. Hope our kids can handle the pressure. MSU has been there we haven't.

Go get'em Hawks! Have all my tailgating gear ready to go!! Can't wait
