Am I understanding this correctly....wiscy gets punished for only beating 1 ranked team but alabama is a lock at #2 by beating one ranked team?

I won't even get started on ok/tcu :)

Fair or not, the eye test is part of the equation and there’s no way you can call ‘Bama and Wisky equivalents.
I'm not saying WI is as good as bama, just that they can't say WI is 8th because of a weak sched and then say bama is 2nd but not even mention there sched is just as bad.

If they're using "eye" test how is OK 5th? They played baylor, isu, ksu and tx and ended up with a loss and not a single win of more than 8 points in those games!

ALSO-I was just watching espn(I know, what was I thinking) and 1 of the guys went on to say that it's WI's fault that their schedule is weak and not a single person bothered to mention they have no control over 75% of their schedule.

Or the fact they played BYU in the worst year I can recall for the Cougars. That was supposed to be tough.

So they were referring to the 25% of their schedule that they do have control over,.... I have no pity for the Badgers over the disrespect they are receiving here. We received the same treatment in 2015 and a lot of it came from Badger fans....

Most f’d up postseason in all of sports
And the only way it changes is if there is some financial pressure on the NCAA/P5 cabal to have an expanded playoff. They're milking money out of a system that they entirely control now so I don't see that happening anytime soon.

Before they set the format for the so-called CFP, many of us said it HAD to be EIGHT teams to be fair and inclusive. So, of course, the powers that be set it at four, so you end up with another farce and at least as much politicking and subjectivity as the freakin' BCS.

The fair and honorable thing to do is put REAL value on a conference championship by giving all five P5 champions a spot in the playoff. Then, as others have said, you can argue about the other three.

But the way it is now is just plain BS, and it stinks more every year.

NCAA doesn't have any part in the CFP. The P5 controls it.

Should have kept the BCS poll and used that to choose CFP top 25. Top 4 go to playoffs, sorry #5.

you mean Wisconsin should have a OOC schedule like Alabama has
FSU who has fallen apart
Fresno State
Colorado State
soon to play SUPER POWER D2 Mercer.

Alabama's OOC schedule is a joke and it always is. other than 2 maybe 3 teams in the SEC their schedule is no tougher than Wisconsin and I can't stand the badgers, but lets get real here.

This year they played then #2 FSU (they've fallen off after their qb got hurt).
2016- USC.
2015- Wisconsin

I don't feel like looking it up, but most years they'll play a highly rated team early in the year. I think they played Penn State not too long ago as well. So at least they generally schedule one highly ranked team in OOC.

Except for the fact that West Virginia isn't ranked. But you were close.

Apparently you haven't viewed the most recent AP poll. West Virginia is ranked 23rd, right ahead of Iowa State and Iowa. And they have been ranked much of the season.

Apparently you didn’t read the thread title and don’t know that the only poll that matters is the CFP rankings.

Thou maketh excessive sense.

Totally disagree .... if the playoff was expanded the regular season wouldn't mean as much and the interest in the regular season would decline substantially ... only having 4 teams makes it interesting for everyone for the entire season.

Doesn't the SEC only play 8 conference games?

As others have said, there's only one poll this time of year that matters, which also happens to be the subject of the thread. Try to keep up. Also, any poll with Michigan, South Florida, West Virginia and Iowa State ranked ahead of Iowa is laughable and completely invalidated.

Correct, which many people willfully ignore. Wisky is at least playing 9 conference games and a theoretical P5-equivalent in BYU, though it didn't work out that way. With two buy games. Most B1G teams play 10 P5 games, while many SEC teams play only 9.

Alabama purposely scheduled Mercer, Fresno State and Colorado State this year.

ND plays G5 Temple, Miami(OH), and Navy.

I think "laughable and completely invalidated" may be a bit strong. Until last weekend, Iowa's only impressive win was in overtime over ISU in the second game of the season.

Guys, LC made an honest mistake and owned up to it. No need to be jerks.

Anyone who thought a playoff would solve all ills and rejoiced at a committee choosing teams instead of computers was a fool. The committee does whatever they want to set up their intended final result. Nothing more, nothing less.

Alright maybe that was a little over the top, but we're not talking about last week. Iowa now has already played 5 top 25 teams and beaten 2 of them with an upcoming road opponent who happens to be undefeated and ranked in the top 10. They have the same record as Iowa State, a more difficult schedule and beat them head-to-head. The same record as West Virginia and have played a much, much more difficult schedule. Michigan has no wins over top 25 opponents nor teams with a winning record and South Florida has played the 122nd most difficult schedule in the nation. So, Iowa definitely should be ranked ahead of those teams right now and there really isn't an argument to say otherwise.

To be fair there were a lot of folks on here calling OSU a "top 5 win", which isn't true if the CFP is the only poll that matters.

I dunno, I was referring to the post about Bama never playing anyone in their OOC.

How many conference games you play matters because it affects how you can schedule non-conference games. Playing FSU is less impressive when you consider they play one less conference game than anyone in the big ten. Take any SEC team, subtract one BCS team from their non-conference games and then compare to anyone from the B10. If they don't even have one....holy crap.

That is absolutely correct. As I said, I was simply talking about the fact that Bama does normally play a highly ranked team in their OOC.

Another thing that benefits the SEC is that they often play a cupcake in the middle of their conference season.

Yep, like an extra bye week really.
