Major college football is all about the flavor of the month when it comes to coaches. Have a couple of good seasons at a MAC school, etc., and you are all of a sudden the second coming of <insert legend>
There is no reason for Strong to not be successful at Texas. They have 4 and 5 star recruits falling out the locker room. Texas has the financial support, facilities, fans ... and #1 it has the most fertile recruiting grounds in all of America. Yes, Texas also has to compete with the other Texas schools (and other colleges) for recruits ... but the Longhorns should always be a top 15 team.
It's all about "winning" in major football. It's become too prevalent now that ADs and fans and administrators want "Ws" on the field and the classroom is an after thought. Louisville hired back Bobby Petrino - the same coach it ripped for leaving the Louisville program with no notice and after signing a 10-year contract extension. The same Petrino who then ditched the Atlanta Falcons 13 games into the season ... The same Petrino who then had the 25 year-old mistress at Arkansas who he illegally hired and then of course ... bedded. The same AD who said Petrino recruited questionable players, etc., now says Petrino is a "changed man" ... Bottom line is Petrino fills the suites ... He sells tickets ... And Louisville is winning ... We'll look past his past exploits and ignore his character flaws ... IF he can win football games ... That's where too many programs are nowadays ... And then you have LSU dumping Miles 4 games into the season ...
