Per Jeff Borzello. Former UNlV recruit people were talking about a few days ago. Other candidates are Alabama, Louisville, Marquette and UCONN.

You would think someone must be leaving if he is seriously considering the Hawks.

Vital is the shooter right? Makes you wonder if Fleming or Ellingson are taking off.

Interesting. Would also put the prospect of Baer getting a scholly in doubt too.

For some reason I thought maybe was relation of Dick V....until I realized he spelled it Vitale and then looked at picture of Christian and....yeah I am an idiot LOL

I wouldn't be in a rush to put Baer on scholarship, he probably deserves it but I don't see him transferring if we don't give him a full ride. Find some donor to come up with some academic partial ride for him or something and call it a day.

Is this Vital kid a PG or SG?? I realize Fran really doesn't care, but we NEED a PG so bad. I do not see Williams being it for the PG position.

Just look at the teams left in the dance and their PG's. They are all smaller/quicker and able to get into the lane.

247 has him listed as a combo guard. 6-2. Which means he's probably closer to 6 foot.

In my view many of the really good athletic teams don't utilize a pg in a traditional sense, They just have 2 or 3 guys that can slash and get into the lane to break down the defense, Also is a real benefit to have inside guys that can finish at the rim when the penetration causes the interior defense to react to the player creating havoc in the lane. So while I understand wanting a primary ball handler in clutch situations, I think as you are seeing more and more drive and kick or drive and dump off type of offenses you can likely utilize more of the combo type guards vs having a couple of traditional pg's.

I just always think about if a team presses us or gets into a 3/4 court press. Its always nice to have at least 1 solid player who can handle the ball. But yeah I agree if you have 2-3 guys who are of the combo guard type, then you will be okay.

Was this Vital kid highly recruited? I noticed his new top 5, but I was just curious prior to committing to UNLV. Also I noticed UNLV has a 4 star PG who committed, wonder if he is going to get his release as well?

If Fleming leaves, I hope it's because Moss and Hutton are going to be huge stars and take all the minutes at the 2/3. Probably not the case, but I can dream.

It would suck if Fleming turned out to be stud 3 point sharpshooter and he is gone in 3 years ,Fran totally burned a year of ellegibility like he did wih Olesani.. Just imagine what having him on this team would have done for us.

It has been declared on these boards that Moss has nba type talent. Is it true? Who knows but that sure would be nice.

While I agree it seems a wasted year, Who knows what all went into the decision, Maybe Fleming wasn't keen on the idea of red shirting, Perhaps Fran didn't want 7 freshmen in next years class in regard to how he envisions balancing scholarships. Hard to say really. Heck, Maybe he thought Fleming would progress quicker than he did this year.

I hope Fleming doesn't leave. I think he has a lot of potential and can be really good.
I hope you are right, but I am certainly not seeing it.....I think Hutton and moss have more potential and if we are offering a scholarship to similar type player it appears Fran might not agree with you and from the limited times he was on the court I am going to have to respectfully disagree with you as well. Coming from Oak Hill and it appears he is physically built, I am not sure if he has not already got close to his max potential already....hope I am wrong but it's not as if he is coming in raw and not physically built, he just doesn't look like a big ten player athletically......

You just have to be careful when you judge freshmen that you only get small snapshots of, Fleming is a case in point, It seems to me he is athletic enough, It also seemed to me he was doing way too much thinking, Especially on the defensive end vs just reacting which tends to make you look a step slow most of the time. Again this is just based on such a small sample size that it really make it hard to make any kind of informed opinion. Fran see's him everyday, I'm sure he has a much better idea on if he "whiffed" on Fleming. I also tend to think overall many people are far too quick to write players off, I tend to believe you should err on the side of having some patience.

Why are people so sold on moss and Hutton but not Fleming? There's a reason two were redshirted and he was not. Fleming will be fine if he stays!!

As I said I hope I am wrong. However, I also think many fans are quick to think a player is the next "big thing" based on their PTL performance, especially when said player didn't even start on his HS team. Granted it was Oak Hill, but at the same time Oak Hill is known for producing college ready players....but he is still young and a lot can happen but IMO I would not surprised not disappointed if we here soon he is transferring

Correct, there were obviously reasons.

But in no way should it be assumed that the reasons were that the " better" player did not redshirt.

Most feel it's the opposite, the ones with more upside were probably redshirted.
