Just got this email. Anybody got the scoop on this?

Dear City High Families, Students, and Staff,

We want to share details about an unfortunate incident that occurred at last night’s boys’ basketball game in Fairfield.

During the game, an official directed a racially-charged comment toward our coach. The Iowa City Community School District never condones racism. We stand by our students and staff of color. We are also addressing an incident of physical aggression and helping our students learn better ways to handle a volatile situation.

Due to the unsafe environment within the gym, our coaches decided to remove our student-athletes. Our team received a police escort to the locker room, out to the bus, and out of town.

While this is certainly not how we wanted this game to play out, we are thankful that the situation was de-escalated and we could safely leave the school. If you have concerns or are in need of support, please know that we are here to help. If your child would like to speak with a school counselor, please contact the school.

Sincerely,

John Bacon
Principal
City High School

Not really surprising being in Fairfield, same type of incident happened to my nephew there last year during a wrestling meet.

Another allegation of a racist referee. Interesting. Hopefully not the same crew that was accused previously.

Checked Youtube and it doesn't look like Fairfield livestreamed the game. Or else they already took it down.

Here's the story:

FAIRFIELD — What started out as a great basketball game for Fairfield against Iowa City High on Monday night ended with chaos.

"Fairfield would win the game 77-63, but not before drama ensued on the court.

As the game progressed, tensions began to rise from the Iowa City High side. After a pair of technical free throws, which came from the ejection of the Little Hawks head coach, an Iowa City High fan was ejected for berating the referees in the early stages of the fourth quarter.

Tensions boiled over with just two minutes to go in the game, with the Trojans leading by 14, 77-63, as Fairfield’s Tate Allen was fouled by Iowa City High’s Evan Lampe. The two earlier crossed paths when Lampe tried to rip the ball out of Allen’s arms after he dove for a loose ball in the first.

This time around the foul committed was Lampe’s fifth and final, but instead of heading over the bench, Lampe beelined for Allen knocking him over with full force and proceeding to throw a punch while Allen’s back was on the court.

Coaches from both teams rushed the court to break up the scuffle. After a five minute intermission to calm the pressure, the referees made the decision to call off the contest, notching the Trojans second straight win, 77-63."

Here's some highlights of game from Twitter ... nothing related to incident here. Normal for HS highlights to be done before end of game ...

Here's video of the shove that resulted in City High walking off the floor. There was apparently a hard foul by City High and it appears a Fairfield player said something to him after. Hadn't heard about the racial slur.

Classy Tweet

Years ago Fairfiled had a black football player by the name of Milt Jackson, who was very highly recruited and wound up going to Notre Dame.
Around that same time, Newton had a star running back by the name of Treye Jackson, who was a huge get for Hayden Fry. Alas, he did not pan out at Iowa and ended up at Wyoming.

lol grown man w/ "milfs" as his middle name on Twitter, and "Director of MILF pornography at Alcorn State, sober 5% of the time" as his twitter bio, recommends therapy for high school kid that got pissed and physical during a game.

Goddammit I love the internet sometimes

Is it odd there is no mention of the racial incident?

Seems like a pretty one-sided story and it appears to suggest that the physical aggression by the City High player was unprovoked (by not mentioning anything).

He left when JHF moved Ronnie Harmon to running back instead of naming Treye the starter. I believe he wound up playing some defensive back. I always thought he ran too straight up, didn't lean forward. But maybe that's just me.

How was he at holding onto the ball?

Too soon?

I was going to say this same thing. Anyone that watches any sports knows this sort of thing can happen after small things build up over the course of a game.
In fact, I'd suggest it is far more likely he was provoked.

Now, that is not to say he was JUSTIFIABLY provoked --- no reason pretty much ever to throw punches after a whistle while on the court. But we have no idea what was said or done to elicit that type of response. It's very hard to believe, however, that there was nothing.

Has there been an update on the last allegation in Davenport?
