CJ Beathard

Long could not run like that, plus he had Ronnie Harmon running the ball.

I do think Long threw a better long ball, although CJ's accuracy is off due to his injury.

He is the best all around qb ever at Iowa when you factor leadership, intangibles, and skill set. I would take him over Brad Banks without a second thought. CJ at 60% is probably the 2nd best qb ever at Iowa. He has increased the level of play from his teammates to a point that we have never seen.

Randy Duncan and Kenny Ploen, plus Chuck Long, were pretty good, not to mention Banks and Tate, but as a total football player and leader, it would be tough to find anyone better than CJ who, as others have noted, is 11-0 as a starter, and 1-0 (Pitt last year) in relief. 12-0 ain't bad.

It's kind of useless to anoint an active QB with the title, 'Greatest Ever.' We need to wait until he's done to see where he fits in the pecking order. Tate and Vandenberg are recent examples of Hawkeye QB's who were unable to maintain or build upon early success or promise. I love what we've seen so far from CJ and truly believe he has the skills and make-up to top the list when he closes his Hawkeye chapter. It is interesting to note however, there are four QB's in the B1G alone with higher efficiency ratings and 10 (yes 10,) with an equal or greater total of TD passes this season. Of course intangibles like presence, grit & leadership are difficult to measure, and he is the only starting QB in the conference who can look at the standings and see 10-Doughnut!

How long since an ex-Iowa QB has started an NFL game (Dan McGwire doesn't count)? As much as many of us (myself included) bag on Greg Davis, he did coach Chris Simms, Vince Young & Colt McCoy into the position of having that opportunity. My money is on CJ to be the next and I truly think he has the tools and ability to succeed.

Why the hell not "throw in saves," Coug63? They don't count? I looked this up, so see if you can follow it: When the game begins, the score is 0-0, so the starting QB is even with the other team. Got it so far? But when the "second team" QB comes in at the half and his team is behind by 10 points AND there is only 30 minutes left to play, winning under those circumstances is more impressive than winning as a starter.

So if you followed the trail of facts, you can see that Beathard is 12-0 as the Iowa quarterback.

Oh, and if saves don't count, you might want to pass that along to the baseball folks. They'd be interested in your logic.

Damn, some people on here can be so freakin' stupid.

Then he has to get credit for the loss vs. Tennessee with this logic.

2xer, you're another fool. Since when does a reliever get credit for a loss when his team is behind when he enters the game? Answer: NEVER. Look it up, my clueless poster.

CJ entered the Tennessee bowl game with Iowa behind. Buy a clue. Then you'll have one. LOL

You give Tate the OL and RB production and schedule, we would be blowing out everyone.

Long and Banks lost games. CJ is 11-0 BOOM Bitches.

First the season isn't over. Second both Banks and Long were Heisman runner-ups.

Beathard has done a phenomenal job. But his body of work is still being written. We'll see at the end of next year.

First sign that you're losing an argument is to resort to name calling.

Kenny Ploen played both ways, could run and pass with great bootleg and had a great Canadian Pro career.
