Last place Cyclones!!!

Big 12 Standings

TEAM CONF OVERALL

West Virginia 4-0 15-1
Kansas 3-1 14-2
Oklahoma 2-1 13-1
Baylor 2-1 12-3
Texas 2-2 10-6
TCU 1-2 9-6
Oklahoma State 1-2 9-6
Texas Tech 1-3 11-4
Kansas State 1-3 11-5
Iowa State 1-3 12-4
Ouch. I know they have K State ahead in Manhattan and then Oklahoma at home. 1-5 is not crazy talk. Now that Tubby has brought TTU back to respectability, there's TCU and that's about it for 3 foot putts. If they don't get better defensively soon, they could be in for an all timer of a tail spin.

They play absolutely no defense or rebound and have zero depth. I can't believe Iowa pissed away that game. Iowa State is exactly who I thought they were 2 months ago

I was one who maintained that Iowa State's Top 10 ranking was legit for quite some time. Since Baylor, I have now officially seen the light. They may not even finish near the top 25 this season unless they can find a way to pull their heads out of their arses. With two games against Kansas and West Virginia left on the schedule, a road game at A&M, and a handful of other tough road games in conference, it might not even matter.

Seems as though the fanbase has noticed. Already saying he is in over his head. Tough for them. Basketball is really all they had.
Prohms downfall is not developing Simeon Rice into a guy he can steal 4-8 minutes a game with to allow him to go 8 deep. Against Texas only Burton and Cooke came off the bench....they have no "big" that can spell minutes for them.

Morris played 45 minutes!!! Niang 40 and no starter had less than 34....I know it was an OT game but he's going to kill his starters at this rate. Couple that with a short turnaround Monday game coming up against OU......it will be interesting to see the minutes the starters log against KSU.

Prohms failure to develope Carter and steal a few minutes contrasts with Frans use of Wagner and stealing a few minutes here and there even though Wagner isn't an offensive threat at this point.

I still think they could be very good, so I'm not throwing them out just yet. I would add that last night's game should not have gone to overtime, as the Texas PG was fouled blatantly (Grabbed and held) as he drove to the hoop for the winning basket with no call.

WVU looks better than anyone expected, and while I don't believe they're regularly 10 pts better than KU, they're probably all ISU can handle and more, which is a change. A .500 finish in B12 play is probably in the cards for ISU.

And TCU beat Texas. No gimmes for state when they are essentially 6 deep.

I was kind of hoping for them to have a good season. That way it makes the State of Iowa look better and helps the hawks out personally.

But I agree they have no bench and when your starters are playing 35+min a night, their bodies are going to get worn down and worse could possibly become injured. If they lose any of their starters beside Naz-Long, they are in serious trouble.

I like the Prohm guy they have as coach, he is a solid guy who is very respectable for the University, but I think this is a case where the players have not bought into his "system" yet. I am sure they will struggle this year, but I bet they will upset OU or KU at home and the "hilton magic" will come back.

The veterans are uncoachable and don't respect Prohm. They refuse to be coached and play like it.

Are you kidding me with this quote??

"I tried to go get a quick one,” Morris said after playing 45 minutes while scoring 17 points and dishing out seven assists. “I thought I got hit on my way to the basket. It was no call. Coach was yelling get a timeout but I feel like if our best (3-point shooter) on our team can get an open look like that, we’re going to live with it seven days out of the week.”

ISU relies on out of state recruiting ... at least that has been their history...2 Iowa high schoolers have been on scholarship at ISU the last 9 years..LA Pomlee (remember him?) and the Ernst kid from Clinton...that's it. So the chant is not Let's Go State...its Let's Go Out of State.

I'm not sure if Prohm is willing to take some of the same gambles that Hoiberg did with transfers...so regardless of this year..I would think ISU fans would be somewhat concerned about the future.

Texas scored under 60 pts and lost to TCU just a few days ago. They score over 90 and beat ISU last night. ISU is not a great team. They should be 10-6 right now.

That kid man, he thought he was the greatest thing since sliced bread. He was a post player strictly but wasn't big enough/didnt work hard enough to be that at a major conference school. He did dunk on me though once in high school. (I'm under 6 foot)

I wouldn't shovel dirt on them just yet.
They were overrated and don't look to be contenders for the bigxii title. But they do have talent and could turn it around and be ready come tourney time.

This is a perfect example of the inmates running the asylum. If you were a coach & a player basically said, yah I know what you wanted, Coach, but I basically just said screw off & I am going to do whatever I want....what would you do as a coach?!?

Let's all guess what their fearless leader will do.......crickets......exactly.

1. Zebras definitely missed an obvious foul call on Nader. However, the kid wasn't in the act of shooting....and ISU had a foul to give. If the officials call it properly, it's a foul on ISU and Texas gets the ball out of bounds with about a second left on the clock.

2. Definitely trouble on the banks of the sweetly flowing South Skunk River. The team really hasn't played a good entire game all season. Clones didn't put away the weak teams on the schedule. My feeling is that last night was the worst of the season in many respects. Losing at Oklahoma in the last 6 seconds sure as hell isn't a reason to panic. Even losing at home to Baylor isn't disastrous, although the way it happened was.

3. Obviously not a conference contender. I thought they were at the beginning of the year -- although I said at the time that the lofty rating was too high. Still could have a good season. Two of the four losses were to teams that also beat North Carolina this year, another one was on the road to the team that is likely to be ranked #1 or close to it, and the fourth was to a ranked team. And all four could have been won in the final minute. But the team simply doesn't look good. Not hustling, not playing smoothly together, not playing smart on too many occasions. It isn't a coincidence that opponents tend to have their best three-point shooting night of the year against ISU.

All isu needs is playa only meeting. Then they will be back on track for the final four.

I think their problem on defense, is that they don't have the bodies to come in to get them out of foul trouble. This limits how they play aggressive defense on people. If one of their starters gets in foul trouble, they are in deep trouble immediately. Watch them on Defense a couple possessions, they let guys drive past them all the time.

with them not having a bench, by tourney time there might be anything left in the tank to get started on a run, also at this rate they may not even make the NIT. boy would that send shock waves thru the Cyclone fanbase, they may not recover for a few years.

He was absolutely in the act of shooting. UNI being 10-7 is more relevant that them beating UNC without Marcus Paige. Texas had Ridley against UNC too, they didn't have him last night. But if that's what makes you feel better about losing to those two teams that have had bad years...

Pollard sucks at hiring coaches.
This seems very true. Hoiberg fell into his lap, but most everyone else has been average, at best.

Funny now, is that the new football hire is the next big reason for optimism.

Give it three years. If the football team still hasn't seen a bowl game, Jamie will be gone.

Count me as one who saw this coming. Constantly bringing in castoffs and transfers makes building any sort of chemistry difficult. There's a reason these guys transferred or went the JUCO route in the first place. Grades, attitude problems, etc. Combine that with an AD who ran off a legend (2 if you count Sanderson), and you get what we're seeing in Ames this year.
