Clones Fail Again

Since you Iowa fans put the Iowa loss at Iowa State out of your mind your posts say otherwise. FYI the first four of Iowa State's games three of them ended with the same result this year as they did last year. The only one with a different result is ISU won at Texas last year 85-77 but the final results of the other three games they lost to Baylor at home last year (their only home loss last season, how many did Iowa have). I think you should concentrate more on the laurels of your own team. The season has a long way to go.

Since you love Cyclone bashing I try to avoid that but have always wondered how Iowa even got the play in game two years ago against Tennessee when they lost 6 out of their last 7 games including their losing their usual first round game in the Big Ten tournament. I also recall most fans on this board calling for Fran to be fired during that glorious run.

Not at all sure that there is any 'logic' here to reply to/about....

This time last season, isu was 3-1 in conference, not 1-3. Yes, there is a lot of basketball remaining to be played, but the margin of error for the team from Ames is about as skinny as it gets given the very high expectations from before the season ever began. Certainly you will recall the 'top ten' and 'final four team' plaudits from many isu fans concerning isu men's basketball 2015-16.

I'm sorry, in the tradition that YOU set forth here, I should state not only many isu fans but most isu fans predicting greatness for this team.

Are you trying to somehow back into saying that we should not be surprised by another early exit from the tourney by isu? You never know when a UAB will appear from nowhere.

Observations: Michigan State's depth making lineup decisions difficult
By Jon Rothstein | CBS Sports

Iowa State is at an early crossroads: Steve Prohm knew entering this season that he'd endure more pressure this season than any other coach in college basketball and, if it's possible, that level of pressure has escalated.

The Cyclones fell to 12-4 overall and 1-3 in Big 12 play following Tuesday's overtime loss at Texas and their upcoming schedule isn't exactly loaded up with cupcakes.

Iowa State next travels to the "Octagon of Doom" on Saturday to face underrated Kansas State and the returns home next Monday to face Oklahoma at Hilton Coliseum. After that, the Cyclones travel to pesky TCU, host Kansas, and then travel to Texas A&M -- maybe the best team in the SEC -- on Jan. 30.

This program had visions at the beginning of this season of making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament and competing for a berth in the Final Four.

Right now, getting back to .500 in conference play is going to be a big enough chore in its own right.

I can't recall anyone saying to fire Fran (other than probably a couple crazy people you'll find in any fanbase mired in a losing streak). But most of all, I simply have no idea what your second paragraph has to do with anything. If a team is 9-9, 21-11 in a major conference, that's a bubble team and we so happened to get the play in game. Not sure anyone here is on the selection committee or what your beef is.

Very few fans wanted Fran fired. Most of us empathized with the McCafferys due to Patrick's situation. Yes, we were disappointed by that team's defensive failures down the stretch, but we still made the tournament for the first time in a long time and it was obvious that McCaffery knew what he was doing.

Contrast that to the current mood on CyFan where a lot of fans are ready to tar and feather Prohm and ride him out of town on a rail after a handful of games. Yeah, we're the irrational ones.

I understand clone fan. It doesn't matter that the clowns are 1-3 in the Texas Ten. It doesn't matter the clowns lost to UAB this past March. What matters is that Iowa played in a NCAA first four game two years ago.

Don't laugh clown fan is serious.

And, sorry to say because I like the panthers, but the loss to uni continues to look weaker as they are now being throttled on the road by an unimpressive indiana state squad that is currently 9-7.

I'm a fan of uni and what they've done in the past few years, but this is not a particularly good version. It really is amazing that they got up as much as they did for the unc and 'clone games.

Jacobson is so underrated though.

I didn't say the Cyclones started out with the same record last season as this season. I was stating their record against the teams they have played thus far in the same home/away situation.

They lost at Oklahoma and at home against Baylor last season, just like this season. They also beat Texas Tech at home last season but by a much wider margin. The only difference in the four games is they won at Texas last year. I'm not making any predictions of the team this year without Naz Long as he was a very big part of their team and made many game winning shots for the Cyclones. I don't know how anyone could expect they will be able to compete in the Big 12 like they did last year. All teams have to do is get them into foul trouble and is why they have to be cautious to prevent that from happening.

So what? Are you somehow vainly still trying to justify isu as the 'final four and big xii regular season champion' that was posted so much about during the off and early seasons? If you do not expect them to compete in the big xii like they did last year, why even bother with any comparisons of the two very different seasons now?

The fact remains that virtually no isu fan was on HR prior to now touting that isu would not be able to compete for the big xii title. Many, many delusional isu fans were caught in the hype and predicted a final four team this season. It is not unreasonable for someone at this juncture to post that isu is failing to achieve those standards set by isu fans.

BTW - Iowa lost at home to Michigan State last year and also lost at Purdue (the Hawks did manage to beat Nebraska though, so there is that....). Do you want to project from that how the Hawks will finish this season? Should we go back and review how Iowa fans felt the season would progress thus far for this team or better yet, maybe you can recall for us how the many isu fans here on HR were telling others how Iowa would do in 2015-16.

Game will be played and the season will progress in due time. Suffice it to say that isu has not met expectations to this point.

Clone fan ignore how they behaved in the pre-season. They refuse to acknowledge they know very little about what a big 12 regular season champion looks like let alone a final four team. Yet it will never stop them from saying isu is or has exactly what it takes to accomplish both.

Aren't basketball schools actually really good at basketball? Naw we must ignore all this so clown fans can feel good about themselves and their douchy U.

Tonight is clown fans' worst nightmare. Big bro getting all the attention and the nation knows Iowa not isu is the team that is a great one.

Maybe someday clown fans, keep the faith.

Yes, there's always next yea... oh, wait. Never mind.

I wonder how long it will take for clone fans, errrr. isu grads to infest our board once again? Will a win at K-State do it or will they just be laughed at for beating the 10th place team in the Texas Ten?

What we know for sure is that their Little Bro Syndrome won't keep them away for long.

When the captain (Hoiberg / Dread Pirate Roberts) of a boat who can control the malcontents (transfers) leaves for a bigger ship, it's not long after that the ship starts taking on water. I'm pretty sure the in fighting has begun and they are measuring their swords in the locker room. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Then again, this is Iowa State, where the fan base counts close losses as wins in their minds...hence the perpetual disconnection from reality.
