Coach K

My answer "well coach if I walked out of the hardest econ test in the world and did well my next step is a beer to celebrate, if I hadn't done well I would be breaking down how I can study better and be better prepared, thanks for asking. Now, what is your next step after losing to an unranked team?"

People are making a federal case about that response?
Not a big fan of his either but I really didn't see anything disrespectful in the response.
Richard's and Karen's offended everywhere.

The whiny Carpenter's on full display....
Uh if anything Coach K is acting like a Karen in the video. The guy is offended by the most generic post loss question in the world.

Exactly, it's not a "big deal" but a little ridiculous reaction. The real humor is that it's Coach K dealing with being bad and might need to learn a little humility.
The reaction probably stems from the ‘holier than thou’ image that Coach K attempts to portray. He was condescending and rude to someone who effectively has no grounds to reply or defend themselves. A perfect example of a bully. Think he responds that way to Pat Forde or Andy Katz or anyone else that can put him on blast and call him out? Doubtful.

I saw where the student reporter posted this on his Twitter account ... And of course the social media warriors weighed in ...

Some telling the kid to "suck it up" ... or some saying Coach K "berated" the student reporter ...

The question was fine (and pretty generic) ... And Coach K's response (which he could have handled differently) was fine (even though he sounded like an ass) ... If the student reporter is looking for sympathy (which he seems to be) he has a long road ahead of him if he thinks he was treated rough in this world called "life."

Sidenote: I worked as a sports editor at the ISU Daily back in the day (Walden, Orr, Bobby Douglas) ... and had the chance to interview lots of coaches (at ISU, elsewhere) ... I remember interviewing this guy in the ISU athletic department who had something to do with recruiting ... A general interview to talk about recruiting players to ISU ... campus visits, etc. ... I then asked him about the team of female students used to show the football recruits around during campus visits (as all of them looked like cheerleaders - of course) ... The guy absolutely lost his shit on me ... Unbeknownst to me it touched a raw nerve with him ... I was dumbfounded ... like this team of females was part of a secret society or something ... Anywho ... the rest of the 30 minute interview went okay ... Yes, I was rattled and not expecting to be yelled at for a general question ... but ... I learned via that interview and many after and into my professional career ... shit happens ... and some people are assholes ... and that is life ...

Shocker these ESPN guys saying what an overreaction this was and that it was extremely classy of coach K to apologize.

I think its pretty clear that Coach TwoFace is nothing special as a coach. When he isn't loaded with talent, he is a 5-5 coach. Give him ISUs roster, and they are still a 2-7 team. The best coaches do more with less. I hope he stays at Duke and runs that dirty program into the ground.

He can certainly come up with a better question than "what does the future hold", or plan on a different career. Granted, he's learning. Hope he did.
Even experienced reporters treat coaches (especially famous ones like K) with kids gloves after losses for fear of getting chewed like this kid did or fear of retribution/loss of access to the team. K saw that it was a student reporter and subconsciously knew it was an easy target for him to take his frustration out on in that moment.

Similar to what bullies do, pick the easiest target.

I thought the question was fair. Coach TwoFace's arrogant + condescending response clearly reinforces why I can't stand him. Would he have responded that way to an established, veteran reporter? I think not. The guy is a puke.

correct. He was trying to big-time the guy. How dare you question the HOF'er Coach K? All of these great coaches lose their fastballs at the end of their careers if they stick around too long. Coach K is doing very little coaching now, he but he still likes the money, the people fawning over him and keep piling up the wins. When his team can't just dominate people by showing up, he is exposed.

The kid asked a legitimate question and Coach K acted like a big baby. He didn't yell at him or anything but there was certainly nothing wrong w/the questions. He's a college reporter asking a basic question. No reason to be a prick, just answer it. As usual the Good bye bobby's of the world and titan hawk jump in and maga the situation.

Bringing back the Coach K thread.........he can’t coach at all!!! Mostly 5 stars that are athletic and NC throws 91 points on them! I absolutely love seeing Duke lose!

Meh...

nothing burger

K is close to retiring. You can feel it. He’s a lot smarter than Knight. He won’t go out bullying students. He’ll just go.

99% of people will disagree with me but I always thought that both K and Knight did more harm to the reputation of West Point than good. They both lack character.
