Fran’s replacement

Just remember, Fran did inquire about the open Notre Dame job.

Was that ever published publicly from a reputable source or just internet rumor? I remember it being posted around here like fact, but I never remember seeing anything beyond rumor that Fran had interest in that job opening.

That's exactly right 15 years is plenty of time to see what type of coach and program this is. If you look at the top 12 teams right now in college basketball most if not all are defensive minded coaches. This is the style that wins on the road. We need a coach that can recruit, coach defense, and have his team playing it's best basketball in March! None of these attributes scream Fran! Sorry but he has had his time!
Why the hell wouldn't Fran hire a D minded assistant with ties to a recruiting region we want for his final few year run? The logic of standing Pat and drifting as a team like they have makes zero sense to me.

It still comes down to players I get it this year team is Iowa nice but you need some freaking dogs that can get after it! I watched St John’s last night and man they may not be able to shoot the ball very well from the perimeter but they can get to the rack hit free throws while putting the clamps on you! He just doesn’t have the right type of athleticism to be making March runs!

just read where Indiana going after Brad Stevens but has also made overtures about Bruce Pearl--writer said Pearl has a low buyout if he ever wants to leave--that would be a real kick in the nuts to many in the Iowa community who think they are above Pearl if he does go to IND.
If Indiana gets Pearl I will be seriously pissed off. Come on Beth.

I believe some talking heads (who I do trust have insider info) have discussed it as fact. We’ll never 100 percent know.

I figured Pearl was more or less entrenched at Auburn and not going anywhere at this point in his career, but if that happens, I'll be right there with you, pitchfork in hand. Especially if Beth just runs back Fran for another year in the meantime.

Edit: Pearl has been at Auburn since '14, which is longer than I realized. Maybe he's open to the right offer.

No one wants my job! I would do anything to have a job like Iowa. I like my sleep and being home at a decent time in the evenings so I chose a different profession. I would have enough pride to step away from my position if I knew I wasn’t reaching my goals to help the people that I work with!
Help. Can’t clear this damn thing off my phone other than posting it. Ignore.

Listen to him talk about why he is playing the style he is right now… he says he doesn’t the amount of shooters he has had in the past, so they do want to jack up quick shots right now with his personnel. If he has the right personnel, they will play faster and with more fluidity as his teams at northwest did.

He really leans into the strategy he thinks will win games based on his personnel, their opponents and the scouting report.

He is all about winning.
Thanks for posting that…..very informative about his approach to coaching.

That's bullshit. Fran and Margaret care deeply about this community and have raised and donated millions of dollars for the U of I children's hospital.
So? The community has given his family millions of dollars to play with. (For very mediocre results, I would add) Many people donate money and time to the Iowa City hospitals. Most do not have millions to spare. Those are the community members we should honor and celebrate.

Fran never cared about the state of Iowa. It has been apparent from day one.

Dude can ride his shitty wife back east
It’s like you’re angry because of basketball (I get that) and you’ve transferred that anger to the coaches personal life….come on, you can separate the two.

I’m a diehard Iowa basketball fan and I believe it’s time for a change….. but believe you’re way off base on him personally.

True, but, the same could be said for some fans that think the head coach of their team is some amazing human outside of coaching. It might be true and it might not be.
Fran's job is to be the mens basketball coach, what he does with his time and money shouldn't be a positive or a negative in regards to his position as mens basketball coach. He could get fired today and still give money to the U of I children's hospital, like other people do that are not a head coach in a P2 conference

We can disagree here and not make it personal.

I disagree. The fact that things got swept under the rug after his youngest killed a Vet that I served with.....

Well...you can imagine how I feel about him. Don't want to ruin the kids life, but a family lost their father/son/brother....

I’m on the record for not wanting either of the Drake coaches.

For completely different reasons on some factors & similar reasons for not wanting either on other factors.

That's really sad that evidently there are so many of you that feel that way.

I was raised to never interfere with another man's family, religion, or opportunity to make an honest living.

I get that coaching at the big ten level is a public position. Some conversation about your job in the public is expected as part of it.

But I just don't agree with people taking the initiative to create mass conversation about another man's job status. I find it quite disgusting. How would you guys like it if everyone were out there broadcasting to the public that you shouldn't have your job?
I’m debating on taking your job.

I don’t want it, I just feel like it’s the right move. For the both of us.

And it was proven in court that Jack was not negligent in that complete accident. There was nothing swept under the rug. It was a terrible situation for all involved.

It was a number of fateful factors that led to the tragedy. I wish the stopped driver would not have waved the runner on, I wish the runner would have been more attentive to the second lane of traffic after being waived through by the driver in the first lane, I wish Jack would have noticed the vehicle to his right (or left) had stopped or slowed down and taken that as a sign, he too, should stop or slow down as well. None of that happened and no one should take full blame.

I think he could recruit for the Big Ten, doubt it would be countless 5 start kids. This dude doesnt need 5 stars to win, I think he recruits to what he wants/needs and coaches the hell out of his kids. His style of play, I think he plays to what his roster dictates. The roster he has this year at Drake, he's playing the way he as to, to win games.
Yeah, I certainly think whether he can recruit talent that can win in the Big Ten is a legitimate concern.

Don’t think I’ve watched a game since late December. Saw all I needed to know then. This team was heading for a dumpster fire. And the reason was sitting on the bench coaching. Softer than a marshmallow.

I Should’ve been done after Wisconsin in Madison. That was one of the most pitiful efforts I’ve ever seen from any program, until Iowa repeated that effort at Ohio State in the 2nd half.

Wisconsin isn’t anything special. And they looked like an elite 8 team in Madison.

I would definitely like to see a change but the history of Iowa making it to the Sweet 16 or later is not good. Iowa has only made it to the Sweet 16 8 times, 1955, 56, 70, (80 & 83 - Lute), (87, 88 & 99 - Davis) which is really mind boggling to some extent. The Lickliter hire and how Bowlsby handled the end of Davis' tenure, crippled the program. Don't know who they need to hire but it has to be someone that can build relationships with coaches/kids in the bigger cities in the Midwest. It would be nice to get kids out of the Chicago area again.

This is the same Coach who played His Son over future NBA Kids , He brought and prioritized His own Personal life into Iowa Basketball long before this post to be fair.
