This game is the perfect example of coaching philosophies. Izzo teaches physical toughness and mental toughness. He is constantly tough on his players. He does not coddle and baby his players. This creates a team that is tough and can handle high pressure situations. Fran pampers his players and he has never had a program that develops players physically. It's not not complicated, toughness wins. I love Josh and Payton as Hawkeyes but they are as soft as the Carver cones and we are talking about 4th and 5th year players.

Well, that, and one coach recruits players from urban areas of the country and the other recruits players from Starbucks and the Pottery Barn.

When a team has physical toughness they will be able to
outrebound their opponents. When a team has mental
toughness they will not melt down in the second half.
Coach Fran has been content to teach a fast-break offense
and encourage everyone to shoot the 3 pointer.

Bottom Line: 15 years of Fran is enough to be mediocre.
Our Iowa Hawkeyes will welcome a new coach for next season.

I do agree Izzo expects more mental toughness, but he also has absolute studs that show up to play at Michigan State. That Freshman guard was good because he came to college good.

I think TJ. Otzelberger system is something that is easier to emulate because he is getting lower dollar NIL guys that are top notch defenders. Defense doesn't Cost as much NIL, but can allow your team to stay in games and compete. Then maybe 1-2 scorers can put you over the top.

I'm waiting for the off season Portal disaster to unfold.

Meanwhile the Women’s coach made several adjustments and found the right combo to pull away. Totally different culture and belief in the vision. Fran is and always has been below average. At first we appreciated below average because it was better than the suck we were used to. But after 15 years, it’s more than past time to move on.

Agree on isu.
But izzo isn’t pulling in top talent. Their transfer players were nothing special. He maximizes talent that for sure.

I agree they were up by 7 at the half and caved like the 2nd half did not matter

Izzo wins because he has lots of excellent players who are very athletic, not because our players are “soft “.

Izzo has athletic players which is a prerequisite in big time college basketball. Fran recruits many players who are projects which has proven to be a coaching failure.

Izzo is now 2-5 in his last 7 vs soft Iowa.
He clearly has dominated in his 2 pt win and last nite 7 point win.,.and even in his 5 losses to Iowa he has dominated....soft Iowa could not sweep all seven..pathetic really.

Booker was a top 5 recruit.
Fears was top 30.
Richardson was a MacDonald's AA.
Carr was top 50
Iowa had zero top 100 players on floor but Iowa should have done what only 3 teams in the league has managed and beat league champ and go 6-1 vs izzo in last 7.

I want change but have not lost my ability to see how great an effort the guys gave to hang with MSU despite Payton's horrible shooting start.

Fran derangement syndrome has gotten a bit crazy around here..the horse is dead

But should we dismount?

Are you supporting the Swarm nil fund ?
This has been an issue way before NIL, and no to supporting a coach that refuses to emphasize defense regardless of how athletic the team is. A new coach will have a bigger NIL and if it’s a coach that is proven to coach all aspects of the game then yes I will support.

Tournament champions, yay. Then got bounced by Richmond in the 1st round.
Conference post season play in both football and basketball doesn't really mean much IMO outside of generating additional revenue. When you get to the NCAA tournament the way Fran coaches puts a ceiling on having much success. You win come tournament time with defense, toughness and guard play. The culture along with many other factors warrants a coaching change.

No guarantee they will have bigger nil. They will have revenue sharing, but nil will still be a big factor because every P4 team will also have revenue sharing.
