Cole Fisher now starting at weakside LB

I am not trying to diss any of the players in our program. The problem with the linebackers last season was that it appeared none that played were ready to be starters. While we played three seniors in front of them, it's on the coaching staff that none got much experience. And considering Iowa didn't exactly have a stellar season in the year that the three seniors started, it seems to me a normal staff would have considered the consequences of starting three new guys in 2014.

I admire any young man that can earn a scholly. to a D-1 program. The Iowa linebackers are all likely fine young men. My beef is with the staff that coaches them. They had a rough year, highlited by being embarrassed in the bowl game. I hope I am proven wrong and they make all conference this season. But my expectations are pretty low at this point.

I think you have nailed it. One of the problems that the KF system has is; the team rarely gets far enough ahead to put in backups and get the the much needed experience. he would prefer to get ahead and take the air out of the ball, trying not to make mistakes.

Perhaps KF got wind that Fisher's dad was threatening a transfer if his kid didn't get to start. Hey... it worked once before!
I know for a fact that Cole Fisher's father has never threatened any such thing to the coaches at Iowa. That is not how the Fisher family rolls. Don't know where you got your information, but it is not correct.

Hawkyote, he is joking. He is definitely joking.

I went to MN with cole. He was a stud athlete and good kid as was his brother who did some nice things with the huskers. Who knows, maybe I'll even pull for the hawks in a few games now

I think that it is good news on many fronts. Firstly, it's great news for Cole himself. It's great that he earned himself a starting spot. That reinforces the mantra that helped to make the Hawks great.

Secondly, it makes it so that there will be one fewer entrenched starter as we move into the 2016 season. This is great because it ensures that there will be opportunity for young guys ... and that is important with regard to keeping guys "hungry."

Lastly, if Fisher holds onto the starting gig ... Bower still gives Iowa a high-quality 4th linebacker who has starting experience. That will be very valuable moving forward ... even if Mends ends up passing him at the WILL spot.

I do have a clue, and have gotten a fair share of info in the past. As usual, when I do report something, I get haters and jealous posters here trying to bring me down. Good for all of you that don't know the whole story that I do that finally have a chance to really tear me down after accurately breaking news here for close to 13 years.

I've posted here longer than you have and cannot remember a single time you've posted something "new" (that ended up being accurate). I know you always have a couple of canned examples for this type of response, but other posters quickly point out that other sites had that info before you did. I personally don't remember who was first in any of those situations, so you might have broken the news after all. When people have to scream about how great they are, it tells me most of what I need to know to form my opinion.

Couldn't have said it better Pepperman. Plus he was slandering Brandon Wegher hard even before he signed to play for Iowa and never misses a chance to take a shot when BW is discussed here.

BTW, as long as we are talking about the Fisher family, Cole has a younger brother - Clay - who is a redshirt freshman at USD and played QB for Millard North.

Nope. I do too. I never thought Fisher would see the field other than special teams this year, but Bo hasn't exactly impressed either.
I'm please to see you aren't very high are on starting linebackers. That can only mean they will be studs this year because you're seldom right about anything.

I was being a smartass, or being sarcastic. Take your pick. I'm sure Mr. Fisher did no such thing.

Sorry if you missed my attempt at humor.
