Collins

What the hell is the big deal about the 14th man on the roster tossing up a 40-footer at the end of the shot clock with Iowa leading 109-whatever? Hell, let the reserves play the game. This BS of standing around and letting the shot clock run out in these situations is misguided "sportsmanship." IMHO, of course. It wasn't Keegan Murray, man, it was Luke Laketa. My gawd.

Or maybe it really is much worse to give up 112 than 109 . . . LOL

Well, Collins just got through telling his guard to back off on d, so, yeah, dooshy.

Coach says "don't shoot" you don't shoot.

I can understand if nw wasn't being douchy but they were. Well at least the 1....

BS. Why put in the reserves if you're gonna tell them to stand there and model their freakin' uniforms? Fran was wrong to tell them not to play. NW should have let their kids play defense, and Iowa should have kept playing basketball. That's what used to happen, and nobody blew a gasket about it. The only issue at the end of a blowout would be if you still had the first team in there. Other than that, the game's 40 minutes, and the reserves, especially the deep reserves, especially the 13th and 14th guys on the team, should be allowed to play.

Hayden Fry knew that. And so do I. Fran needs to figure it out, and so do some of the people on this board. Or maybe some of you think Luc Laketa was showboating. LOL

I agree with you, but don't blame Fran. This is the common approach throughout college basketball (and high school basketball).

I’m a huge backer of Fran but he could have handled this much better. Instead of berating Luc the way he did he should calmly walk up to the opposing coach, apologize if he feels a need to and say he will have a “little talk” with his offending player (In private).

This. Yeah, I get it, the kid wanted his moment on the big stage, and I imagine he really didn’t expect it to go in, but when your coach tells you not to shoot it because the other team’s coach has told his players to back off, you don’t shoot.

After Howard’s little tantrum, I imagine Fran wanted to make it painfully obvious he wasn’t happy with the shot. At this point in the season, the last thing we need is either side escalating things out of proportion. I’m not suggesting Collins is anywhere near the childish douchebag Howard is, but after Gard got fined for having his shirt grabbed, I’m sure Fran wants no drama coming from the Big Ten office.

I'm okay with Laketa shooting that ball. It was at the end of the shot clock. If he (or anyone else) shot it with plenty of time on the shot clock it might be an issue.

Now, I was a bit disappointed at the very end when the NW player was going for a layup and Iowa defended him preventing him from getting a basket. I think they should have just let him go get his 2 points and be done with it.

The key word here is calmly.

think it was NW that put away a couple of Fran's teams in 1st game in B1G, so payback.

Collns is good sport, but probably not going to turn around NW after all.

Iowa tried to be classy, deep bench guy went rogue, Fran got red, at least bench guy has a stat, moving on

Collins and Fran go way back and are friends.

It looked to me like that is why Fran was upset with his guys. I am sure he was a little annoyed with the shot by Luc, but his guys aggressively playing defense to prevent that final layup occurred as Fran was going to shake hands with Collins. Overall, there is a bigger deal being of this situation on this board than anywhere else’s that I have seen. Bring on Rutgers!

I guess when you are coaching your own team you can certainly do what you want, regardless of what some anonymous message board poster thinks.

Duke has a completely different narrative if all players were like Chris Collins. I would want that guy as my neighbor, brother-in-law, tax attorney and pediatrician for my kids.

Bottom line is the Christian Laettner Duke team inherited the Bad Boys mantle from the Detroit Pistons and the fact it’s a private school created a perfect storm for hatred and jealousy. Something Duke has never been able to shake so long as Coach K was roaming the sidelines.

So every Duke player carries this “elitist pricks” aura even if they don’t personally deserve it.

I just have a feeling Fran chewed out Lakota for show.
then told him helluva shot when they hit the locker room.
I would hope, not like he can bench the guy !
