Dembele needs to go down, he's not a Power 6 player. Teams bring in 10 new players at a time these days, doesn't always work out, but it certainly happens. We're just not used to it at Iowa, but when you watch this team it just looks like it's been miserable for all involved.
Agreed. Koch is going to be a good one and let’s hope it’s in a Hawkeye uniform.
I’d love to keep Dix around certainly, but he’s only got one year left. Koch should have four more years after this season. The rest can be upgraded pretty easily with a reasonable transfer.
Fran isn’t going to say what’s going on behind the scenes… I don’t know if he’s lost the locker room but the performance on the court supports what I’m hearing!
If this is true, Dix is the only true loss. It's unfortunate Fran couldn't build a stronger supporting cast for him. But that's been Fran's weakness every year with every one of his better players.
Entering the portal does not mean they ultimately leave Iowa. If Fran is replaced, the new coach will have the opportunity to recruit them to stay. Even if they do go, I am not concerned. A new coach will bring players and generate enough excitement to fill the roster quickly. We live in a new world when it comes to NCAA collegiate sports.
There has been better energy and chemistry with the bench players on the court.
Right, can’t imagine Dembele, Traore,Harding and even Owen finding a better situation than what they have at Iowa.
Up until the game last night I think the team was actually showing quite a bit of fight. A team that has given up would not have won at Rutgers or come back against Washington. Not great teams I know, but they still came back and won.
Would explain why Traore hardly plays after being put into the starting lineup.
Freeman needs to work on his strength. He gained mass in the off season. But didn’t look any stronger.
Looked quite a bit slower at times, too. Both foot speed-wise and quickness of jumping.

He looked fat. Compared to last year. Of course Payton looks as if he’s never touched a weight.
We're not wrong in our descriptions of him, but FM's 'defensive' system does him nor any of the bigs any favors.
Easy to look lead-footed with that hedging out to the FT line or further and the allowing of constant backdoor cuts or EASY pick-n-roll plays for the opponents will NOT be missed when FM goes.
If it were possible, I'd hope for the new coach to retain Dix, Thelwell, Traore and try to hang on to a couple or recruits & the MN portal guy that came from Miami.
Completely agree, but when the coach and staff obviously don't make it a priority in philosophy and practice, kinda hard to place all the blame on the players for not doing it well.
It’s going depend on the new guys system. And who he wants to bring in. Assume he probably already has some in mind. That he recruited at previous school.

There's not much on the current roster that I'd want to see come back. But if the new coach thinks a few of them have a spot in his system, are willing to buy in and cost little to nothing in payroll then he can go after them.
Frankly, I'm looking more to the portal for next year's minutes distribution.
The critical piece to all of this is Fran's exit. If he doesn't leave then I have very little interest in what happens with the roster.
Idk, think it’s a priority but it’s not being communicated effectively or the player is ignoring it. A high motor D-1 guy wouldn’t let himself look like freeman. I know Garza isn’t the norm, but even Kreiner worked his ass off to get into top shape. Each year improving. That’s on the player.
I think the kid will be a 1st team all-league type player. Good chance he comes back too since he’s a legacy and having the chance to lead the program back to where it was when his dad was here or even higher.
Freeman wouldn’t surprise me if he went to a better team and got paid better. I doubt he gets more playing time or finds a better situation for him personally though.
If there's anything the MBB program needs right now, it's "completely different"....
Basketball is so easy to have a massive turnaround from one year to the next. If they all leave, I’m good. Plenty of good portal players that would want to come play for a B1G program. And with rev share starting in July, lack of NIL won’t be as big a deal. But you gotta think with a new coach that understands marketing the program, NIL will improve tremendously.
I’ll man up and eat crow if I’m wrong but this is coming from someone that is close to a current player on the team!
