Come reminisce about your childhood toys

Hands down one of the best toys I ever got....never once remotely considered it being basically a Ken doll.

The Green Machine freaking ROCKED. I didn't have one, but a neighbor kid did.

I had both of those. I conducted a scientific study with my erector set when I was eight;

"What happens if you stick a piece of metal into the socket of a Felix the Cat night lamp?"

"It makes a loud popping noise accompanied by a large spark; causing nearby children to nearly pee themselves."
Those were the days. My Erector set had an electric motor with a little transmission and several projects that had gears. I cannot count the number of times I caught a finger in a gear and drew blood. Didn't sue anybody, though.

Also had the A.C. Gilbert chemistry set. Wowser, talk about something that would NEVER be allowed on the market today! The freaking thing had acid, I think. Maybe not. But I'm sure it had stuff that would kill you if you ate it. The briefly sold an atomic energy kit, with a Geiger counter and some radioactive materials to experiment with. That didn't last long, even in the early '50s.

I'm sorry. I know I'm being a prick, but you're tee'ing them up and somebody's gotta knock 'em down. :)

This little gadget was the instigator of many brawls at my house.

I'm laughing because we used to stall. My brother and I would get so mad at each other. We could score every posession, so you had to time them out correctly. I still have the white one and green one.

I also had a Honda 70. I still had it when I went for my motorcycle driving test, so I took it. There was a kid a couple of years older than me that had his dad's big touring bike. He laughed at the bike I had before the test; but wasn't laughing later as he failed and I breezed through. Later a friend borrowed it to do his driving test and he said there was a kid at his test on a big bike that failed. I was betting it was the same kid.

OiT is old school bmx racer and I collect old bikes but mainly have pattersons and redlines and jmc's , not too many on the hutch side. I literally met rick molenterno before though, he was factory hutch on the freestyle side around 1985, csb he was from blue grass iowa

The sting had really nice welds i think it was made at the schwinn paramount. Factory in Wisconsin

Mine had an extra weld. Once I got a little too big for it, I raised the seat up too far and broke the neck.

Got it welded but whoever ended up with that bike now I'm sure is cussing me for being such a dummy.

Always loved the GTs of that era.

I have a few gt bikes and was lucky enough to meet the founders of that company in rockford Illinois along with bob haro and jim melton of jmc

And my Fort Apache, Alamo, Civil War and WWII battle sets.
Someday hoping to find another cool slingshot launched glider with spring loaded wings. It was probably about a foot long and made of sturdy plastic and rubber. Have never seen another one like it.

My brother had one, LC. I had a Lionel that blew smoke using little white pills down the stack. It also had a working head light....but I only had 12 foot of track in a oval.
Those of us who had American Flyer trains felt vastly superior to the Lionel people, as well we should have. American Flyer had two rails, like real trains do. Lionel had three, like toys do. American Flyer rolling stock also was more accurate.

BTW, American Flyer was an A.C. Gilbert company, same folks who made the Erector set and chemistry set, etc.

Your disparaging comments about Lionel reek of white privilege and class distinction.

That sounds awesome.

I remember having these little rubber band driven wooden prop planes as a kid:

Had a couple of the big foam gliders, too. The foam gliders seemed to last about 30 minutes and then would crash and burn and break apart.

Definitely used to get these all the time. I remember I had a tendancy to overwind the rubberband, but I don't exactly recall the consequences. I think I was able to buy those things for about a dime at the corner market.

Speaking of the A.C.Gilbert company.Did you ever get any Moon McDare or Man From U.N.C.L.E toys?I think they jumped on the 12" action figure craze ie GI Joe.

Was a poor didn't have toys. Remember going to Salvation Army one year and my brother picked out a toy gun that shot plastic disks. However they considered the plastic disks as a separate toy had to chose them as my gift. That was a low point. Usually got clothes I do remember getting a pogo ball one year but that's the only toy I ever remember opening on Christmas. Yes I'm still bitter no I haven't forgiven my parents for being poors. I over compensate for it now building a new house every couple years. Take that parents and no they don't speak to me. It's a win win.
