Catholic Priest Gets Five Years For Child Molestation​

The former chaplain of a Roman Catholic high school in Louisiana has pleaded guilty to molesting two minors whom he met through his work and was ordered to spend five years in prison. Patrick Wattigny’s plea and sentence on Wednesday came after both of his victims strongly advocated for a harsher punishment.
One victim, who was present, described how Wattigny spent time grooming him in the mid-1990s. The victim said Wattigny told him he could help him gain entry to heaven, then took him to a rectory to fondle his genitals. Wattigny also used his fingers to rape the victim while masturbating.
“You sir are not God,” that victim said. “You never were. You never will be.” In a written statement released to reporters after the guilty plea, the other victim called the sentence given to Wattigny as a “grossly lenient and unfair slap on the wrist”.

A Wichita County Jury on Wednesday sentenced a former Wichita Falls postal worker and Sunday School teacher to life in prison for urging a 13-year-old girl to give him a “peep show” and take a shower with him. She said there were about 15 such encounters, including incidents in his vehicle where he exposed himself. She said he offered her money to take a bath with him where he instructed her to wash his genitals.
Daniel James Green, 63, pleaded guilty in 78th District Court Tuesday to Sexual Performance by a Child, a charge that stemmed from an incident in January 2022. His punishment was left to a jury of seven women and five men. After Green was charged with the offense in 2023, two other women came forward and told authorities Green did similar things to them nearly 20 years ago. The jury was authorized to take those allegations into consideration as they deliberated Green’s sentence.

Washington DC’s Fox affiliate reports:

Police have arrested and charged a pastor in Montgomery County with rape. According to police, this all stems from an incident on September 29th, 2020, at the Iglesia Pentecostal El Fin Viene on the 7500 block of New Hampshire Ave. in Takoma Park.
Serving pastor, 39-year-old Erick Odir Vidal-Fuentes was charged with second-degree rape and fourth-degree sex offense. The victim, who attends the church has not been identified.
Vidal-Fuentes currently has another case pending for assault on an additional church member. He faces up to 20 years in prison.

A 33-year-old Wisconsin Rapids man was sentenced Tuesday to seven years in prison for inappropriately touching a child while he was a counselor at a Christian camp. Remington J. Nystrom pleaded no contest to a charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child on April 12, which was the day he was scheduled to go to trial.
The charge was reduced from a charge of first-degree sexual assault of a child under the age of 13.
The case stems from a report made to the attorney general’s clergy and faith leader abuse initiative, according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice. The statewide initiative investigates clergy and faith leaders accused of sexual abuse.

Illinois talk radio station WMIX reports:

A former youth pastor of a Patoka church pleaded guilty Thursday in Fayette County Court to five of ten felony charges stemming from his involvement in a child pornography ring in Vandalia.
Ferrell Kissiar, a former assistant pastor at the Pentecostal Church in Patoka was sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison after various consecutive sentences were handed down in the plea agreement.
He was arrested in 2021 along with a Vandalia husband and wife, Amber and Andrew Wehrle in connection with the pornography ring and abuse charges. Amber Wehrle was sentenced earlier this year to 13 years in prison while her husband was sentenced to 26 years.

An 83-year-old Marietta man who is a former pastor has been arrested in the cold case murder of an 8-year-old girl in Pennsylvania. Gretchen Harrington was attending Bible summer camp in 1975 in Marple Township when she vanished while walking from her home to one of the camp’s two locations.
Skeletal remains were found at a state park in Edgemont Township on Oct. 14. The coroner determined she died of blunt impacts to the head, which he classified as a homicide.
At the time, the Bible camp was housed in two churches, including the one where Gretchen’s father was a pastor, Reformed Presbyterian Church. David Zandstra was the reverend at the other church, Trinity Church Chapel Christian Reform Church in Marple Township.

Christian Sports Ministry Leader Charged With Child Sex​

The former executive director of Full Count Ministries is facing child sex crime charges following an investigation by the Hendersonville Police, who said they began investigating 40-year-old Jacob R. Oldham on July 15.
In a statement, Full Count Ministries’ Board of Directors said Oldham was terminated Saturday morning after an internal investigation by the board.
Oldham was arrested and charged with two counts of soliciting sexual exploitation of a minor, according to Hendersonville Police. According to court records, Oldham is being held on a $5 million bond and remains at the Sumner County Jail. He is set to appear in Sumner County General Sessions Court on Aug. 4.

Mormon Leader Pleads Guilty To Child Sex Charges​

Shawn Gooden has now pleaded guilty in Virginia to four sexual assault charges involving a child less than 14 years old. Police in Virginia told abc27, the alleged incidents happened in the late 1990s and involved a child who was already in Godden’s life. Years later, he lived in Palmyra and was a Boy Scouts leader, an LDS church leader, and a lawyer with a Harrisburg law firm. Gooden was arrested last September in Lebanon County and extradited to Virginia to face the charges.

From the outlet’s September 2022 report:

Police in Virginia say Gooden is under investigation for the alleged sexual assault of a child between 1997 and 2000. They say the child was between 9 and 13 years old at that time. During an investigation, detectives say Gooden also allegedly assaulted another victim who was between 8 and 12 years old.
Police in Virginia say these were not random victims and they were already in Gooden’s life prior to the dates of the alleged assaults.
Social media posts by the Harrisburg stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints depict Gooden holding a series of leadership positions over the years, including president of its Lebanon Ward. abc27 news has learned that Gooden’s involvement with the Boy Scouts was tied to his church leadership role.

Court of King’s Bench Justice Kevin Feth accepted a joint sentencing submission from the Crown and defence and sentenced Brad Dahr, 56, to four years in prison for sexual exploitation and one year for making child pornography. According to an agreed statement of facts, the pastor ran a mental health outreach program for young adults and asked a teenage member of the church’s congregation in 2017 to co-preach a sermon series with him.
They started exchanging sexual messages and Dahr suggested they switch between messaging platforms to avoid being discovered. Dahr had sex with the girl, whose identity is protected by a court-ordered publication ban, and they exchanged intimate photos and videos of themselves. Addressing the court, Dahr repeatedly said, “I deserve this” and said he regrets what he did. He spoke of his long-time wife, whom he betrayed, and his children, who were in the courtroom on Friday.

A Thompson Township pastor was sentenced to two years in prison Friday morning for sexually abusing his daughters. Dennis Laferty plead guilty to two counts of gross sexual imposition and one count of sexual imposition June 22.
Laferty, 37, was indicted following an investigation by detectives into allegations of sexual abuse involving minors between Nov. 30 2019 and Jan. 30. Laferty was the pastor at the Thompson United Methodist Church. The church now has a new name and pastor.

A former Madison County councilman who is accused of raping an underage girl in 2020 is being sought by police after he failed to show up for his appointed court date.
According to court records, former councilman Steve Sumner, 55, was set to appear in Madison County court on Thursday. After failing to show, the court issued a warrant for Sumner’s arrest.
Charging documents accuse Sumner of a litany of charges related to child sex crimes. Online court records show he currently faces 15 felony charges that include child seduction, possession of child pornography, child molestation and rape.

It is believed that former Madison County Councilman Steve Sumner has fled the state of Indiana. An informed source that didn’t want to be identified said Monday that Sumner has left Indiana after failing to appear at a court hearing last week.
“I have no idea why my client did not show up,” Sumner’s attorney Cody Cogswell said. Cogswell was recently appointed to represent Sumner after attorney Bob Summerfield withdrew from the case.
Sumner was elected to the Madison County Council from District 2 in 2018 and resigned from his seat on the council in 2021. He also served as a pastor with the Lighthouse Church in Anderson.

Gary Arivett was arrested and is facing three counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a family member under the age of 18. He has since been released after posting a $100,000 dollar bail.
The survivor says Arivett has been a pastor at Shiloh Apostolic Church in Henning for nearly 30 years. For her privacy, she does not want to be named, but says she and her sisters were abused for years. She says the abuse first started for her at age 11, her younger sister was 6 years old.

Florida Baptist Pastor Arrested On Child Sex Charges​

Kyle Robinson, 30, an associate pastor at First Baptist Church of Indialantic, was arrested July 28th on 2 felony counts of child molestation charges. He’s currently out on $30,000 bond. According to his LinkedIn account, Kyle is a graduate of the Christian-based Liberty University with a Bachelor’s of Christian Ministry.
Child Protective Services coordinated with West Melbourne Police and conducted a controlled call between the victim and Robinson. He became suspicious that the victim was not alone and asked that he Facetime with him to prove he was alone which the victim refused.
Robinson repeatedly expressed the importance of not telling anyone about the abuse, as it would result in him going to prison for a long time, and that it is in the past so they should just “move on” from it.

A pastor with Camino Church in Charlotte faces 14 charges involving sex crimes against children, dating back to the 2000s, Charlotte police said. Investigators said there may be more victims who have not yet come forward. The children were between 9 and 15 years old at the time, police said.
Robert “Bobby” Price, 56, is already a registered sex offender after a 2014 conviction for indecent liberties with a minor. He was arrested Friday morning.
Price is currently an associate pastor at Camino Church in Charlotte, police said. He’s accused of crimes dating back to 2001 to 2011, when he was a youth pastor at Kings Way Baptist Church in Concord. Price served 16 months in prison after his 2014 conviction on similar charges.

MI Youth Pastor Gets 25-40 Years On Child Sex Charges​

Convicted of sexually assaulting children in the mid-1990s, former church group leader Michael Baxter will be 73 years old when he will be eligible for parole from prison. Jackson County Circuit Judge Thomas Wilson sentenced Baxter, 48, to serve 25 to 40 years in prison Thursday, Aug. 3, before a court packed with victims and their family members.
He was on trial on five counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct after being accused of sexually assaulting several children, ages 10 and 15, from 1996 to 2013. Baxter was a youth group leader from 1997 to 2001 at Church of Christ, 1341 Horton Road. The 25 to 40 year sentence is above Baxter’s recommended sentencing guidelines of 10 to 25 years.

Fort Myers’ CBS affiliate reports:

A Cape Coral church deacon has been arrested, accused of sexually assaulting a child when she was 8 years old. Cape Coral police arrested 53-year-old Brian Patsy Rogolino, Thursday.
According to police, on Jan. 18, the victim told school staff that eight years ago, she was touched inappropriately by Deacon Brian Rogolino of the Church of Jesus Christ.
An investigation revealed Rogolino allegedly performed sex acts on the victim without her consent. Rogolino is being charged with two counts of sexual battery on a child 12 years or younger. He has since been transported to the Lee County jail with no bond.

A former priest in Laurens, South Carolina, will be headed to prison after taking a minor from South Carolina to Florida with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, according to the Attorney General’s Office. Jamie Adolfo Gonzalez-Farias, aka “Father Gonzalez,” 68, of Laurens, a former Catholic priest, pleaded guilty in federal court to transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.
Authorities say Gonzalez-Farias admitted that he took a minor victim from South Carolina to Florida with the intent to commit lewd and lascivious molestation. US Judge Mary Geiger Lewis accepted the guilty plea and will sentence Gonzalez-Farias after receiving and reviewing a sentencing report. The charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum penalty of life in prison, plus fines and restitution.

Roselle (Rosie) Anderson Stevenson, formerly Rosie Hamblin, 70, of Provo, the ex-wife of David Hamblin who was arrested last September for aggravated sexual abuse of a child, lewdness with a child, rape of a child and several counts of sodomy on a child was booked into the Utah County Jail on one felony count of sodomy on a child. She is being held without bail.
Utah County sheriff’s investigators say Hamblin forced her to perform oral sex on his then wife, Rosie. The probable cause affidavit is extremely graphic and states that the woman described one incident where she was being taught by Rosie and David how to perform oral sex on a female.
The victim in this case told investigators the sexual abuse began when she was 6 years old until she was 12 or 13 years old.

An investigation into 46-year-old Gabe Geringer began in 2018 when a victim came forward. According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, Geringer was originally charged with felony sexual assault on a child and a pattern of sexual assault on a child in connection to a sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl that began in 2010. Investigators said Geringer was the girls’ youth pastor at Fowler Christian Church.

In letters read aloud on Sunday to the affected congregations, San Antonio Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller announced that two priests had been removed from ministry and reported to law enforcement over allegations that they had inappropriate sexual contact with minors. The congregations at both churches were notified Sunday via letters from Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller that were read aloud.
Father Jesus Eduardo Martinez-Soliz of St. Joseph Church-Honey Creek in Spring Branch is accused of sexual misconduct and grooming a minor, García-Siller said. At St. Monica Catholic Church in Converse, a teenager said that Father Alejandro Ortega had touched them inappropriately, the archbishop said. The minor reported the incident at a Catholic youth retreat held with another parish on June 24.
