Catholic School Teacher Arrested On Child Sex Charges​

The Quad City Times reports:

Cody LaKose faces a felony charge of sexual exploitation by a school employee and three aggravated misdemeanor charges of sexual exploitation by a school employee. LaKose, 37, was a science teacher and coach at Central DeWitt from August 2010 to December 2018. He was asked to resign, according to a separation agreement with the district.
DeWitt police opened an investigation March 2, 2022, after a former student reported to police that LaKose had groomed her and conducted a sexual relationship with her while she was a high school student, records show. His social media accounts indicate LaKose is employed at Regina Catholic Education Center in Iowa City.

Cedar Rapids’ ABC affiliate reports:

The investigation began with the victim’s report of sexual exploitation, which started in the spring of 2017 when she was a minor and Central Dewitt student. The exploitation included kissing, genital touching and sexual intercourse — all allegedly taking place inside LaKose’s school office. The report also says that LaKose had received naked pictures of her before she had turned 18, that he had asked for them and that he had instructed her to take the pictures in a variety of positions.
Later, in Oct. 2022, a Dewitt police officer attempted to arrange an interview with LaKose, which he turned down. After this incident, the victim reported that LaKose had sent her a text message asking her if she said anything about their relationship. The text came from the same phone number that LaKose had provided to the officer. She also provided a screenshot showing that she had received a photo of male genitals from the same number on June 3, showing a continuance of sexual communication.

CO Christian Filmmaker Pleads Guilty In Child Sex Sting​

Ministry Watch reports:

Steve Greisen, a Christian filmmaker and a veteran of the Jesus movement’s 1970s-era music scene, pled guilty Wednesday in Colorado Springs to a criminal attempt to solicit online sex with a minor. In a plea deal, Greisen agreed to register as a sex offender and spend five years in Colorado’s supervision program for sex offenders. He had been arrested on charges for inducement of child prostitution, patronizing a prostituted child and sexual assault on a child.
As Ministry Watch reported, Greisen was arrested Sept. 7 after arranging to pay an undercover detective $170 to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. Greisen, who is 68, runs two Christian film companies: Exploration Films Distribution, which says it manages distribution of over 400 films, Reel Productions, which released the biblical thriller, “The Mystery of The Ark of The Covenant.”

Christian College Professor Charged With Molestation of His Adopted Children​

An Abilene Christian University professor has been accused of sexually abusing his adoptive children, including at least one incident that happened on campus. Charles Wadlington was arrested on a warrant for Sexual Abuse of Child and now remains held in jail on a $75,000 bond.
Court documents state that in March 2023, a child came forward to police and said she and her sister were sexually assaulted by Wadlington, their adoptive father, and their brother may have been harmed as well.
During a Child Protective Services investigation, the documents state one of the sisters reported Wadlington had engaged her in sexual activity multiple times, “and that one of those times was in his office at ACU”.

A retired Orange County pastor has been convicted of sexually abusing two young girls he is related to, according to court records obtained on Thursday. Jose Andres Lopez, 70, of Mission Viejo, was convicted Wednesday of 18 felony sexual assault charges dating as far back as 1991 through 2020.
On Aug. 21, 2020, one of the victims was finishing up school work remotely during the coronavirus pandemic at the defendant’s home when he called her up to his room, she testified.
“I went upstairs and then he pulled down my shorts I was wearing that day,” she testified. “That’s when he started (sexually assaulting her).” Lopez had lubricant and condoms next to his bed, she testified. “He locked the door like he always would,” she testified.

IL Catholic School Ex-Teacher Arrested For Child Porn​

The State Journal-Register reports:

A Petersburg man was arrested Wednesday on child pornography charges, bringing an end to a four-month investigation.
The Athens Police Department said that Adam L. Power, 29, was charged with possession of child pornography, a class 2 felony. The investigation began in December when APD learned that someone was using an online platform in the area to distribute child pornography.
Power was being held in the Menard County Jail. In addition to the AG’s office, Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 4, the Petersburg Police Department and the Menard County Sheriff’s Office all assisted in the investigation.

The Springfield Courier-Journal reports:

Power was theater teacher at Our Saviour School from August 2015 to January 2019, according to a spokesman for the Diocese of Springfield, which oversees the Jacksonville school. He also previously served as choir director at Central Christian Church in Jacksonville.
“Our Saviour Catholic School and the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois are committed to the protection of all children and work in partnership with local agencies to prevent any child from being harmed,” spokesman Andrew Hansen said.

In 2016, former Harris County GOP chair Jared Woodfill received an urgent warning about Paul Pressler, his longtime law partner and a Southern Baptist leader. In an email, a 25-year-old attorney from Woodfill’s Houston firm said he’d recently gone to lunch with Pressler, who told him “lewd stories about being naked on beaches with young men” and then invited him to skinny-dip at his ranch.
Woodfill — an outspoken anti-gay politician and prominent conservative activist who’d just played a key role defeating an equal rights ordinance for LGBTQ Houstonians — responded to the young man’s request for help with shock and indignation. “This 85-year-old man has never made any inappropriate comments or actions toward me or any one I know of,” he wrote of Pressler at the time. But new court records show that wasn’t true.
In recent sworn testimony, Woodfill said he’d known since 2004 of an allegation that Pressler had sexually abused a child. Woodfill learned of those claims, he said, during mediation of an assault lawsuit filed against Pressler that he helped quietly settle for nearly a half-million dollars at the time.

A former Priest at a Wausau area Catholic Church will serve prison time for charges of possessing child pornography.
Timothy Svea was found to have numerous images on his computer last winter. Officials immediately charged him with possession along with a modifier for lifetime supervision of serious sex offenders. He pled no contest to those counts on Monday.
The 60-year-old had previously been sentenced for molesting an underage boy, charges which landed him 18 months in jail back in 2002. Svea will serve three years in prison along with ten years on extended supervision for the new charges.

The Wausau Pilot reports:

Svea, who was suspended of his duties in 2001 by the Institute of Christ the King after allegations surfaced, is now 59 and was living in Mosinee when a new investigation began. Svea was charged anew in December 2022 after a computer technician reported finding the images on a computer that was in for repair.
The previous case sent shock waves through the Wausau area’s Catholic community. According to an Associated Press report from 2002, the abuse began in 1998 while Svea headed a mission group in Monroe County and continued when the group moved in 1999 to St. Mary ‘s in Wausau.

Armed with three warrants, the agents did not have to search long to find what they were looking for.
“They discovered Dolce actively downloading child pornography using peer-2-peer software,” the Department of Justice alleges.
A longtime Sunday school teacher who was once one of the state’s most prominent advocates for reforming sexual abuse statutes, Dolce is behind bars awaiting his arraignment, scheduled for mid-April. He’s facing a child porn possession charge that carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

Dolce, 53, earned national recognition for his work to end the statute of limitations for child sexual battery cases in the Sunshine State, and was eventually named one of America’s 500 Leading Lawyers for his work defending child sex abuse victims.
Authorities found multiple windows open on the laptop that included or led them to illicit material. “One sub-folder titled “sweetie” featured an addition[al] sub-folder titled “Sweet-Pedo Stars,” which featured child erotica and child pornography images with the added watermark “PEDO STARs.”‘
Federal authorities say Dolce was using a BitTorrent to anonymously download the images and videos of female child victims estimated to be between 5 to 8 years old, 6 to 10 years old and 9 to 11 years old.

California Youth Pastor Arrested On Child Sex Charges​

The Modesto Bee reports:

A Modesto man who has served in a leadership role over student ministries at his church has been charged with molesting a family member. Michael Sasser, 40, was charged last month with forcible sexual penetration, continual sexual abuse of a child and lewd and lascivious acts with a child.
According to the criminal complaint, the first two counts are alleged to have occurred from Jan. 1, 2022, to July 18, 2022, and the third count is alleged to have occurred during December.
The crimes are alleged to have occurred when the victim was 14 years of age or younger. Sasser was co-leader of the student ministry at Redeemer Church on H Street in Modesto before stepping down Feb. 28, about a month before his arrest. Sasser also previously served as a church elder.

Georgia Pastor Gets 25 Years On Child Sex Charges​

Savannah’s ABC affiliate reports:

A former Savannah pastor will serve 25 years in prison and life on probation for child molestation and statutory rape. Alfonza McClendon Sr. was convicted of molesting two children between 2013 and 2017. The molestation happened while McClendon was pastor of the First Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. He will have to register as a sex offender when he’s released from prison.
District Attorney Shalena Jones provided a statement following the conviction. “When an individual’s childhood is compromised by such egregious, horrifying acts, it will stay with them forever. For these victims turned survivors to bring their story to light and face their perpetrator is a great act of bravery. I commend these survivors for coming forward and encourage others to do so.”

Colorado Springs’ NBC affiliate reports:

A Colorado Springs man has been arrested on sexual assault charges according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and detectives are looking for more victims.
According to deputies with the SVU unit of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office 58-year-old Robert Henry Gordon was arrested on Wednesday, on charges of sexual assault on a child in a position of trust, sexual assault on a child, unlawful sexual contact, and enticement of a child and is currently being held at the El Paso County Jail with no bond.
The sheriff’s office says that Gordon reportedly serves as a music teacher at the First United Pentecostal Church in Security, Colorado.
