Congrats to Fran

What drives me crazy about the posters who constantly bash Fran and his Iowa teams isn’t so much their complaints (because Fran isn’t perfect and we’d all love to see better results in March). It’s that they only come out of the woodworks with losses and they are no where to be seen when Fran and his teams have success.

We knew this would be a down year and yet the team is getting better and playing better and it sure feels like we have at least a shot at March Madness and it for sure feels like our future is bright for the next few years.

I hear ya I was you and have grown weary but am coming back around for another kick in the nuts! :)

I have to say, I thought this would be a tough year. Give it to Fran for getting this team playing better. Great team play.

This team has a lot of youth - Freeman, Dix, Sandfort, Dembeli (sp), Harding. More talent coming in next year. Future could be very bright.

Congrats Fran.

It is amazing how some only come around when things are really bad.

I have been really bummed out about this year but you don't just stumble into being a school's all time leader in wins. Loved the energy on both ends the last 3 games. I wish we could have that Michigan game back but so be it.

Congrats Fran on the record! He has done a good job and wish we saw a little more on the defensive end, kinda like football on the offensive side of the ball. I really like this team and the youth of it. They are getting better and will be good if they stay together the next couple of years. I can see this team finishing the year strong, making the tourney and getting to the sweet 16. Just something about this team.

I know you wish this was true because it would make you the little superfan you think you are. Follow the game threads and see who's actually posting in there. A lot of Fran haters are in there and a lot of supporters. You superfans are rarely in the game threads. Why because a lot of you don't actually watch the games. I learned this a long time ago about you superfans that you really don't care that much.

Moved from another thread:

Bouquets for coaching your team to a come-from-behind, convincing win in Minnesota's old barn (where many Iowa squads haven't been as successful) and for becoming the winningest coach in Iowa's history. The journey hasn't always been smooth. Whereas the coach you just surpassed, Tom Davis, inherited a bunch of talented Raveling recruits, the cupboard was mostly bare when you arrived in Iowa City. You've worked hard to restore the program to competitiveness, winning the B1G tournament two years ago and appearing in post-season tournaments 10 of your 14 years.

Iowa is hardly a blue-blood basketball program. It's difficult to recruit to a place mostly known as a football school and that gets cold and snowy during much of the basketball season. Carver-Hawkeye is hardly Cameron or the Dean Smith Center or Breslin Student Event Center. But you've managed to land several very talented players, including beating Dean Smith for the services of Adam Woodbury; Luka Garza; the Murray brothers; Dev Marble, and others. As we're discovering as this season progresses, you seem to have brought in a very good group of young players who have bought into the idea of "team." We're excited to see them grow.

You've not let personal difficulties affect your coaching. We sympathized and supported Patrick when he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The tragedy involving Jack would distract any of us from our business and personal relationships.

I have been one of your biggest detractors on social media, and there are still issues I have with your line-ups and what appears to be lack of emphasis on defense.

But your tenure here largely has been honorable, free of scandal, and we see that you are invested heavily in your players. They like and respect you.

Again, congratulations!

Game threads are completely different. People get emotional during the game and post great and horrible things. I’m talking about the people who start threads bashing the team with every loss and then conveniently don’t watch when we win.

I watch 90% of games and have attended basketball games this year. I don’t post in the game threads because I’m actually watching the game. Wouldn’t a “superfan” as you call them not be in the game thread much because they’re enjoying the game?

Enjoy posting in the game thread.

You get more real opinions in the game threads instead of all this virtue signaling of who's a better fan in these type of threads.
