Just a shoutout to those guys! This was a great team effort! Lots said about Luka, Wheezy and CJ and Kreiner...all were outstanding! But Cordell with 4 assists , a steal and a block and good defense. Conner with an all round good night at the 4 spot. Good d and rebounds, hit a couple 3's. Bakari with a good game at point. Really was sharp tonight, scored, had some nice shots go in but was moving the ball well and had some nice assists as well. It was really great to see those guys having fun! This team was clicking tonight and dominated the offensive boards in the second half. Defense was good again. This team is coming together and they know it! Look out Michigan, Iowa feels good about themselves right now!!! Welcome back CJ! love your game! Great job boys and great work Fran! Go Hawks!

Joe T needs to get it together. I understand letting a guy try to grow, but man does he force a lot of offensive possessions. Way to many quick shots and he has a really hard time trying to finish at the rim against Big Ten competition.

His decision making really gets him in trouble. Two many quick shots and two many contested shots. I love Joe T but he is a work in progress. Love that Fran keeps going to him. With CJ back, hopefully we don’t have to force Joe T’s role. Let him continue to learn.

The thing I see with Toussaint is that the flaws in his game mostly originate in his head,... This kid has the tools, he just needs to learn how to use them in a division 1 environment...

For JT the game just needs to slow down mentally for him. His rushes too much sometimes, but has the tools. We’ll see him improve as the year goes on and definitely next year.

Pemsl has a lot of good passes last night although others couldn’t handle some of them. He’s a pretty good passer to the post.

time to sit him and play Ev and Connor at the pg

Evelyn fits a lot better with the starters.... He plays within the system and all he does it look to get the ball to his main guys and only shoots if he's wide open, which is exactly the type of PG Garza, Weezy and CJF needs.... JoeT is trying to be the system instead of working inside the system, when he's on the floor with the starters, he's gotta understand that he's maybe the 4th option.... He's better off the bench because then he's on the floor with Kreiner, Pemsl and other guys that don't normally look to score so he'll be a bigger option but currently with a lineup of Garza, Weezy and CJF I would go with Evelyn and Connor to run point

I think Fran is really handling Touissant well. Give him every opportunity to develop into a quality B10 guards, on nights he's playing well, give him lots of minutes. On nights the game seems to be too fast for him, lean on Bakari and Connor at point.
Fran is starting JT to give him confidence. He obviously has upside, which shows when he grasps the gameplan and is another reason he’s starting. When JT doesn’t get it yet, Bakari is becoming the Baer off the bench, watching the game and then filling the stat sheet doing what’s needed. It’s actually a system that’s working and I expect to show dividends in JT’s play as the season progresses.

I was down on Pemsl after a couple sloppy turnovers in a recent game. I loved what he was doing last night. When he is on the perimeter with the ball he moves the ball quickly and his passes have zip. Exactly what is needed.

I was with you on CP, but last night he played well and physically appeared to be feeling much better IMO.

37 needs to read this post and listen to Fran's post-game comments last night. This above is what Fran is doing...per Fran. Yes, handling Touissant and others (Pemsl etc) very well. Plus, JT is just a true frosh.....think of other players with Fran and it takes some time to adjust and play at a high level in this league, the league can humble the best of talent as a true frosh but I truly think it will not take JT as long as other players to excel.....he is way too talented, too cerebral and driven.

I admit I cringed early in the game every time Pemsl got the ball, but he had a solid game. This team needs him to contribute like last night.

Joe T is going to be an excellent player - but he's not right now. It's got to be tough going from being the go-to guy in HS to a role player in college. I'm excited to watch him develop.

I sure wish Jack Nunge was playing. :(

Pemsl really needs to focus on his post feeds and when to make them. Last couple of games he has had some really questionable passes at times in the shot clock where we didnt need them. We are going to need solid minutes from him for the second half of this year.

Someone didn't watch the 2nd half of the Maryland game. He has good & bad games, as most freshman. Your comment is ridiculous.

I have watched every game hes a turnover machine and misses Joey and Luka open all the time. Hes mostly had bad games when it counts. Play Eve and Connor at the pg and give Luka Joey CJ Ryan Connor shots.

Yes...if the team wants to make a run, they will need JT. JT played an appropriate amount of minutes vs NW. Other games when he is playing better, he will need more than 15 minutes. Bakari is only around 29% 3pt shooter, but even that moderate performance allows him to be somewhat of a 3pt threat. JoeT really is no threat from 3pt line and teams don't mind if JoeT chucks up 3pt shots. JoeT was 0-5 vs NW, but they were the type of shots he should take and he didn't have any turnovers. He didn't play badly vs NW, but his shot wasn't dropping.

I try to play jazz improv on my trumpet (stay with me here). Sometimes it’s a hot mess, but sometimes, things slow down for me. I get out of my head. I let the music come to me within the context of what other players are doing. People tell me that I’m getting better, and I am only 50 years older than Toussaint.

Pemsl is terrible... Toussaint isn't a B1G caliber player... Evelyn should have stayed at Valpo... CMac should stick to baseball....

You guys can thank me later. The more I state how terrible these guys are in conversations with friends, the better they play. We are all friends right? :)

And just to make sure he doesn't cool off.... Garza is slow, unathletic, and will get eaten alive when he plays post guys like Wesson and Jackson-Davis. (I can't say this without laughing at myself - I'm funny)

Go Hawks! I love this team!

For JT, I think he struggles with two things: 1) understanding the flow of the game - it seems to me that even when JT is playing he doesn't recognize very quickly what the opposition is giving Iowa and further who has the hot hand and thus who should get the ball. 2) I think JT has not yet found or embraced his role on the team. While he is the starting PG, he needs to realize that he is really in the game primarily to facilitate the offense (not necessarily score) and defend. It seems like JT feels like he needs to assert himself as a scorer which he can do at times but I think he just needs to pick his spots a bit better and not force it.

Pemsl is going to need to shoot a 3 once in a while too. Teams are going to start sagging off of him in an even more extreme way than they do now. No one is worried about him driving, once he gets it drop way off to disrupt the entry pass lane. If he can hit even 33% from 3, on what will be wide open looks it will make the defense at least somewhat guard him.

I enjoy watching Luka go for 20+ each night, as well as Weiskamp and CJ knocking down their shots and putting up their numbers; but this team really makes me appreciate the Kreiner and Pemsl hi-low passing, the Bakari game where he gets you 8 points, 5 boards and 5 assists. Many have said it, but this team really is exciting and pretty unselfish. It was very nice to see Connor knock down his shots last night as well

Joe T needs to prioritize his D. As elite as his quickness is that alone won’t make him an offensive threat against B1G guards.

I’m sure he works on his shot this off season and I believe we are watching him try to figure out how to function as a more traditional point. Instead of breaking down the D off the dribble he’s learning how to share and run the team from the point. He’s slowed down a bunch from the start of the year and is making fewer mistakes IMO. The Sports Center passing flash was equaled by crazy turnovers and both are disappearing from his game.

pemsl was solid, he's a senior and should be. He did was he is best at: post feeds. He still forced a couple in, so let's not get crazy.
Kreiner played great. 4-5 and 1-1(3) from the field 5 rebounds with 0 turnovers. He was solid when we had to sit luka.
Cordell is a Junior.

Yeah, he had 2 almost 3 turnovers still.

He needs to just shoot when wide open.

He had 1 pass from like 8 ft away that was a TO I think, ( Iowa might have got it back), but he was wide open from like 8 feet away and tried to force a post feed to Garza who was being doubled. Hes just got to shoot those.

The moment Joe stops shooting as some want, is also the same moment those same folks complain that others are not getting open shots because Joe's man is sagging and helping.
The same could be said about his driving. The moment he stops, we become a team with just about nobody that can drive anywhere except to the FT line. Beyond that, he draws defenders and opens up stuff for others.
This ain't a vacuum folks.

You are right, I didn't get his comment? Could you elaborate?

I think it's pretty obvious...
