Cook...

No but what makes you think anyone on the bench can create their own shot? CW last night all he did was drive to the basket. He got fouled which helped. Outside of that, no one else can. Jok will be able to get some shots, but teams will be all over him next year. He probably won't be able to use the restroom w/out a defender near him. Teams will lock him down. Who do you have stepping up?

I get it we are losing a TON of experience from this years squad. I just do not see it next year. I am praying that I am wrong, but I just do not see it.
Look, I love the seniors, and everything they brought to Iowa. I hope they go out winning a few NCAA tourney games. I'm one of the few always positive posters on this board, and rarely get on our players.

However, to think that our group of seniors somehow can create shots, is just not paying attention. In fact, the farthest thing tied to this group of seniors, is the ability to create their own shot. It just is. Mike and AC just are below average shooters for guards. They just are. I actually think Mike has gotten worse since his freshman season, as he used to make that 15 foot jumper all the time. Teams sag off them on the perimeter because they aren't threatened by their shots. This allows help underneath to Woody and Uthoff. When they drive, they get blocked a lot. Did you see Yogi last night? That is what a PG should be able to offer, we don't have that. CW driving last night and making plays was a nice sight to see. Wagner, Uhl, CW, and Jok can all create plays, Uhl is just having a tough time finishing right now. Moss, Cook, Hutton, and Jones should add some too. The athleticism will be there with this team next year, FAR more athletic than this years team. With that, should come the ability to create shots.

Maybe we have a different view on "creating a shot".

You are equating 7ft as making you a better player. Wagner already is outplaying Woody..another 6'9 guy that can jump and defend is just what the doctor ordered. However, we need some guard play....we just don't have it this year.

This year is short on guards, both in numbers and talent. I think the guys on the roster give it all they have but the back court is only at a marginal B1G level.

Wait a second, are you saying the outgoing group of seniors can create their own shot? Have you not been watching the last four years? The returning big man? The only thing Woodbury can do is rebound. That is it! Uthoff is going to be missed, but his lack of rebounding for a 6-9 forward is really bad. When we were playing well earlier this year, our Seniors were playing abnormally well, compared to their entire careers. Clemmons was playing lock down defense, Mike was assisting everything and limiting TO's, Woody was catching every bounce pass and turning them into layups, and Uthoff was hitting everything in site. Right now, they have gone back to their norm. Woody's hands have been soft again, Gessell with stupid turnovers, Clemmons can't hit a FT or shot, and Uthoff has gone back to being timid uthoff. Our team next year will not have the experience, but they will be a better rebounding and shooting team then the one we have now. Gesell and Clemmons are so short, 60% of our perimeter is open to shoot from.

You know what teams have been doing lately? They wait to see how our zone defense is set up, then go opposite Uthoff on the perimeter. How many 3 point shot blocks does Uthoff have recently? They can shoot over MG and AC all day because they are short and never block shots.

Lately, I think Uthoffs shooting fundamentals have not looked very good. That is part of the reason his shots are not falling.

A lot of basketball left this year but next year's team should be more athletic.

Williams - PG (Bonannon back-up)
Jok - SG (Moss as back-up)
Baer - SF (Pemsl or Hutton as back-up)
Uhl - PF (Wagner will relieve him off the bench)
Cook - Center ( Kriener back-up)

With the way each of them are playing right now I would prefer Wagner to start over Uhl.

Holy cow peeps ... Some of you need new hobbies ... Yes, this Iowa season is ending on a sour note ... But holy cow, some posters are so extreme and negative in their comments and way of thinking. I am a diehard of 35 years ... Seen the many ups and downs of Iowa athletics ...

These are 18-22 years old kids playing a sport ... Sh&^ happens ... You win. You lose.

I am disappointed at the what started as a very special season ... But enough of the calling for a coach's head, etc. THIS IS WHAT'S WRONG WITH SOCIAL MEDIA and message boards and technology ... Is now everyone can spout off that the sky is falling ... and anonymity let's the most dramatic of fans rant and say things they would never say in person to Fran or any of the players ...

I love my Hawks ... Always have and always will ... Take a breather ... Step away from the message boards for a few days ... There are many more tragic happenings in our world than losing a basketball game. Does it suck? Absolutely. But it's a game. It's over with and we can't undo it. Time to move forward ...

Wagner is better than Uhl and should be starting. Uhl couldn't guard my mom, is about as lazy as you can be in defensive rotations and boxing out, and he's a ball stopper on offense meaning he's a black hole when the ball gets thrown to him. He forces up shit shot after shit shot and had given us nothing in well over a month. Wagner on the other hand is active defensively and on the boards, and if we have any kind of coaching this off-season will see his offense grow immensely. He's the better player period. Fran loves Uhl and all I can say about it is it certainly isn't based on game performance.

I'm not sure Fran loves Uhl, as much as Uhl was the only guy on our bench at the beginning of the year with any D1 experience. Seems to me Wagner has now passed him in minutes, while Baer and Williams are getting just as much. Next year we will have Jones, Moss, Hutton, and Cook who all should get minutes as well. I don't think Uhl is ever going to be the star of this team, just more of a role player. Next year it will be Jok and Wagner IMO, the year after, Wagner/Williams/Moss etc.

I'm looking forward to having a point guard who can hit the 3 consistently (Bohannon), and having size at the 2 guard. When Gesell gets a ball screen, it's so easy to defend- just go under the screener and force him to reverse the ball or dribble backwards or sideways. At least Williams has shown that he can still get into the lane and with his size shoot above defenders. Bohannon will open up the middle of the floor and Williams will help shooters get open on the perimeter. From there we have Jok who will average 20+ a game next season, Baer who can knock down the corner 3, Uhl, hopefully Ellingson or Fleming, and Moss who can break the defender down off the dribble. Not to mention Cook in the middle. We may not be as good as this team this year, but I believe the ceiling is higher for next year's team.
