Cooper had a lung collapse this summer (had surgery, out 2 months). After 6 games, it happened again

I would be surprised if this applies to Cooper and have no firsthand knowledge of this situation ( no intent on starting any rumors). I also haven’t listened to this yet but hopefully will later today.

I have seen this happen to young people more often who are vaping. It’s become a pretty popular habit among them as it’s not viewed as harmful as cigarettes but unfortunately can have pretty bad consequences too. Even many young professionals are doing it. Maybe he was exposed secondhand or it has nothing to do with what caused this, but was the first thing I thought of when I saw this.

I worded that wrong…. It’s more common in tall, thin young adult males.

is it a genetic thing? did you have surgery, too?
Mine collapsed when I had surgery for Esophageal Cancer they removed my esophagus, and my body was filling with fluid after a leak had formed. Couldn't breathe layed in bed and shook uncontrollably like I was cold. When they took me down to radiation and jabbed a tube in my back it was literally like a blast of air inflating my lung and I could breathe a lot better.

So, it's happened at least 3 times? Yikes. I feel sorry for him.

From the first video - "Screw it, we're just gonna go full bore and what ever happens happens"

Shit, maybe that’s why I get winded so easily. Maybe it’s not the extra 40lbs I’m toting around and I’m only working with one lung.

And no, not making light of the kids issues. Hope it’s under control!

Yes, tall, skinny males. They're not sure why it happens. I had it happen to me when I was a teenager. They told me it would for sure happen again, and it didn't. Not too big of a deal. He should be good to go.

Wow, that sounds awful. Hopefully, you are better now.

To add to Fran's questions above, are these collapses spontaneous? Are they caused by some type of trauma?
I’ve had a collapsed lung. It happened by coughing so hard from an Asthma attack that I had a 50% collapse. Usually happens originally though some kind of trauma. The problem is that you are more susceptible to recurring lung collapse once you’ve had one.

Hopefully there are procedures or interventions that radically reduce the reoccurrence for Cooper.

I remember hearing that as well from my doctor.

The moment it happened, were you able to tell something was wrong? What symptoms did you have?

Sorry, don’t come to the forums too often. I knew right away that something was very wrong. I had a really difficult time breathing and could not take a deep breath. Like having the wind knocked out of you.

According to reports, it's now happened to him twice within the past year. Seems like a pretty big deal. I hope he's okay, but I can't imagine it's anywhere near a sure bet that he'll be good to go next year.

Bottom line, he wouldn't be allowed to be out there competing at this level, let alone down at the local Y if playing bb was something that could kill him. I highly doubt his family would allow it or endorse it either.

This is a classic example of why HIPAA was put in place, keeping stuff we fans don't need to know from being made public. Pretty big mistake by him even talking about it.

Mistake? It's his information to share/not share.

Yes, mistake. Sharing that is either A) intended to gain sympathy or build an excuse for potential under performance (which I highly doubt was his intention), or B) a mistake allowing the general public to know about his health issue. Privacy is the better path on things like this. He can talk about it all he wants after his career is over. JMO.

JMO being the key part.

Please. We all talk about our health. Secrecy just leads to speculation.

Well I can kinda understand it because fans can be pretty unsympathetic towards players they deem as "quitting on their team". The kid's had some serious problems.
