Cordell Pemsl Breaks Record Video

Cordell Pemsl Breaks School All-Time Scoring Record In 27 Pt 12 Reb 5 Ast 4 Blk Performance

http://www.courtsidefilms.com/news_...ecord-in-27-pt-12-reb-5-ast-4-blk-performance

Seems to be a great fit for Fran! Great at passing, court awareness & presence, offensive rebounding, and really plays hard.
Great stats and a great highlight video but I did notice two things missing. No shots from any distance and no dunks. Assume the lack of dunking is because he's still healing and getting back to 100%.

I love dunks, as much as or more than the next guy. I could care less if he ever dunks.

If he finishes in the Top Ten in Iowa scoring, now that's an accomplishment.

Or rebounding.

Judging by the first block I don't see dunking as an issue. He appears to need a bit of strength and conditioning work, but that could be as a result of injury. I didn't see him use his right hand much either.

He does do a nice job of finding his teammates has a good frame. His FT stroke looks okay too.

I hadn't seen any video of him before. I am pleasantly surprised at his passing ability. I would say the same about his ball handling. Give him a year or year and half out of surgery and it will be interesting to see how athletic he really is.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. He is playing this year after surgery. When he is back to full strength it could add some more explosiveness to his game. He looks really nice right now. Must be a tough young man. Played last year injured and this year not even a year out from surgery.

On the forums screen, this was the most recent thread and I saw "Cordell Pemsl Breaks..." and my heart skipped a beat.

Records are something I'm definitely okay with him breaking :)

Well....I've tried to watch every vid I could find on Cordell, injuries and all.....the kid is a terrific BB player. All around game.

When you start breaking All-Time scoring records of a talent like Eric May, uhhh....pretty good. What I see, he's a bucket maker. Much like you saw when Peter was rehabbing, great players find ways to score buckets...warts and all with their playing condition at the moment but they put the ball through the hoop and lead their team to victories. And all you have to do is look at Peter today and that is imo what we can look forward to with Cordell's production in the future.

Cordell and Cook on the low block are gong to be loads for teams to handle but Cordell has a perimeter game too and a terrific passer/assist man.

He reminds me a little bit of Denzel valentine. Not the outside shooter yet but has a big body, good handles for his size, great touch around the hoop, and great passer

Denzel has better hops. But Cordell looks like he can play,. And play next year. Hate to say who he reminds me of, as he lives in a city that is synonymous with lame...so I won't.

Pemsl looks great. Smooth. I kept on thinking I was watching a highlight video, but that was just one game! Fantastic moves. Love the way he handles the ball. He has point forward looks. Nice stroke with the ball. He'll develop an outside shot, I'll bet the house. Lefty?? Love that! Will definitely help on the interior attacks. Distributes the ball with ease.
He will come into the program at the perfect time. Fran has the locomotive primed. CP will definitely add fuel to the fire.

Go Hawks!

Color me impressed. Great passing and court vision, unselfish, great handles and I actually took the lack of dunking as a plus. Dunks are fun but I like guys who put the ball in the basket. I think we will need Cordell next year. We are going to need everybody.

For a big guy he has good coordination taking the ball from one end of the court to the other. Looked like a PG at times.

I agree. An unselfish bigman with passing skills will be needed next year. Woody will be missed, as will both our PGs. Cordell could fill those rolls with his positioning on offense and ball handling skills. Expand his range at shooting to the 3pt line, (even if just one location on the floor) and that would be enormously ridiculously awesome for spacing.

IF he can come on strong from a defensive standpoint, lookout! That would be HUGE.

Anyone seen him play and watch his defense against a worthy opponent??

Really like him. Like to see a shift in the body weight from the mid section to the upper body.

Cordell can dunk just fine, this is strange that people are bringing it up since I have seen plenty of dunks from him in recent game footage.

What's stranger is that people aren't recognizing the incredible amount of skill this kid has to go along with size and more than adequate athleticism. All that and he runs the floor well which is crucial for what Fran runs.

Quit nitpicking and just have fun with the revitalization of Hawkeye hoops!

Really impressed with his handles. Maybe not an above the rim player but that is sorely overrated in my opinion. He's a real player and is going to be really good for us in the coming years.
If above the rim is so overrated, why has everyone been so down on Woody?

Cordell is going to be tough to move off the block on defense. We will miss that with Woody being gone. He has better handles and better moves around the basket.

Not what I was expecting. And WOW.

Dudes got game in a whole different way than I expected.

If I had to describe that in one word it would be polished. Second word would be baller.

That did not look like a highschooler. I would be shocked if he red shirts next year.

Don't blast me for bringing this up but the player he reminds me of the most is Niang at ISU.

Good handles for his size and can drive, good passer, finishes well around the rim. Good outside shot but limited a little athletically. Probably not going throwdown too many nasty dunks.

Or rebounding.

Helping get wins in any capacity is a plus! Wouldn't hurt if he was scrappy like our other homegrown lefty big who's game is not about dunking. I think our number of dunks per season has been declining since Basabe, then Marble, then White have departed. Then after Uthoff leaves the numbers will probably be less. But the number of victories have increased and that's the most important thing!

Anyone know about Pemsl's defensive skills?? Linn-Mar people? West High? Anyone??

On the dunks, look for those to increase significantly. Everyone will be long. Everyone can shoot. Everyone has handles. The transition game will be one of our best.
Much more dribble drive talent is developing, with more coming. Plenty of hops too.
Our spacing will be in the top 5-10 in the country(with just an average PG). Mark my words. That is a recipe for Dunk City.

As early as next year we are looking at a rotation that includes: Wagner, Hutton, Moss, Cook, Kreiner, Williams and Uhl...and you think we will see LESS dunks?!?!?!

Go Hawks!

It is amazing how many of the shots I've seen him make are from the left side and/or the left block. I'd guess maybe 90% in the 3 videos I've seen.

Not saying he can't score on the right side, but there does seem to be a tendency to that side and that block imo, and even dribbling I haven't seen him use the right hand for more than 1 dribble at a time.

That being said, his hands are phenomenal and I'm pretty sure he can do more in terms of outside shooting and ball handling then we're seeing within the context of his team's system. His type of game doesn't require you to play above the rim.... at least on offense. Again, defense is going to be the critical thing for him.

Check out the next video that comes up after that one of him and Bohnans teams facing.

He has a dunk in that one that should eliminate peoples concerns over jumping ability.

He reminds me a bit of former Tar Heel Sean May. Big bodied, good (not great) athlete, and very skilled for his size. I don't think Pemsl has the range of someone like Valentine or Niang, but he can at least consistently hit mid-range jumpers along with the occasional three.

You must not have seen many of his videos. There are a few out there of him hitting quite a few threes. Sean May was a strictly back to the basket player. Pemsl can score on the block or be a point forward and handle the ball. Much different players IMO.

Got a link? The one that came up after was of Manute Bol's kid.

Pemsl has only made 1 three-pointer this year. I'm not counting on him to be a high volume three-point shooter like Niang or Valentine.
