Your posting name and Mike Land brings back a traumatic wrestling memory.

I know his dad is Eric. He has a brother named Mike who wrestled at Newberry. Not sure if Mike is a relation or not

we should be wrestling them occasionally.... I actually miss the years where ISU was good and the duals were exciting though...... all that being said I ****ing hate State 😎
We all remember, barely, when ISU was good.

Right now, Dresser is laughing all the way to the bank. And he's got a fan base that would be absolutely thrilled to crack the top ten.

I wonder if Carl gets choked up with a tear in his eye (as he did when he left ISU) looking at ISU now.
While Cael left ISU in a bad spot... that was 10? years ago. There's no excuse to still be irrelevant after all this time.

I don't understand how a school with the tradition of Iowa State hasn't been able to be competitive.

Right now... they're paying their HC as much as many of the elite programs in the country. And they're not getting results to match.

You can realize at this point that the AD doesn't care about results. Pollard is just too lazy to have to hire someone else. As long as the football program can be fairly competitive, there's no pressure to win in wrestling cause not enough fans really care.

I would love for them to dual. I know Schwab would love that too. For whatever reason the Hawkeye decision makers have decided this isn't a good idea. IDK.
We get 15 competition dates right? And multi day tournaments count as 2? So let's do the math.

Midlands/National duals counts as 2 dates (assuming we are only doing one this year). Now we are down to 13 competition dates.

9 Big Ten duals moves us down to 4 available dates.

Oklahoma State and Iowa State most likely aren't going anywhere so now we are down to 2 available dates.

We usually wrestle two schools from another part of the country and these tend to have schools from regions we do not see often (Princeton, UTC, etc) and that leaves us with no open competition dates.

If we get rid of one of the rotational duals to schedule a home and away with UNI that leaves us one date to have flexibility with.

Everyone thinks they should dual Iowa every year but that doesn't mean you get to.

Makes perfect sense. Thanks for laying that out.

not sure who your response is to but I said we should wrestle them occasionally

probably would be more competitive than the ISU dual...... some people are of the mindset we never should because it’s a no win situation and if we should lose it would look bad..... I say don’t lose then 😂

I’m sure Tom’s not afraid of them and they’d probably be better competition than ISU but I think there’s some bad blood with Doug Schwab and Tom rumors out there.... I don’t know

I feel like it is a "beef" between the head coaches more than scheduling.

There was one season a few years ago that it might have been close...2016 or 2017 IIRC. It would take an almost perfect storm to make it close. I am asking because I don't know but how many times have they finished in the top 10 under Doug?

I would be for a beefed up Iowa City Duals where ISU, UNI and a Wartburg type all wrestled. Would be great for all the fans of Iowa programs.

I was going to suggest the Iowa duals too.... that event could use some “fixin up”

Sounds good to me but I would add the caveat that whoever wins the prior year gets home mat the following year. As the SEALS say, it pays to be a winner.
This could set up a really cool tradition and fuel some rivalries.

Host goes 2-0 = they host next year
Host goes 1-1 = team that beat them hosts next year
Host goes 0-2 = winner between non-host schools hosts next year

You get what you earn.

The idea doesn't have to be just Iowa, ISU, UNI, but probably doesn't work the best for B1G scheduling.
Iowa, OSU, Missouri
Iowa, Cornell, NC State?
Others?

Under Doug, UNI’s best finish was tied for 13th in 2019. Alber was seeded 4th (due to rankings criteria) and went 1-2. Lujan was the #8 and made the quarters and lost to Hall 5-3, then lost to #6 McFadden in the blood round.

Yep, works for me. That said, Daschunds don't dictate what German Sheperds do, hence no UNI Dual.

Land is the real deal he beat Porter in the finials for the cadet world team I have been a Land fan ever since. UNI is putting together a strong class. Hats off to the 2nd best team in the state.

UNI jumped Wartburg as second best?
