What a gutty effort. Without JBO I thought we were going to get unglued this season, Not the case.

Had CJ played the second half I think we go home a winner, just because he plays solid defense and would have scored.

Sounds like Connor was playing sick and was questionable pre-game.

This team is surprising and young, starting 2 Fr, 2 So and a Jr.
Following them will make the Winter bearable.

Have losing those close games but the effort was there. The team have it all they had and you cannot ask anymore than that.

This league is a meat grinder this year.
Yes it is.

Sometimes I dream about how dominant Iowa would be in fball & b-ball if we played in the Big12.

We’d make the CFB playoffs most years & be a 1 or 2 seed in b-ball playing in that soft conference.

Sure we’d get exposed (like all Big12 teams do) when we play real competition (the rest of America).

Most frustrating thing for me is we really couldn’t change defenses because of depth and the hot arena. Had to play zone exclusively just to save energy.

But but but what about the refs?and the court? And the guy who gave us 34 but missed free throws?
The refs did allow a pretty rough game to be played, but I saw calls that could have been called on Iowa as well.
Question for the rules experts, I thought hand checking was banned. Is it legal again?

Excellent observation and unfortunately we may have to get used to it.
Funny how many times people on this board complained about Fran going too deep into the bench.
Well, that affords you the ability to play more 3/4 court pressure. Which has been highly effective in turnovers and reducing the shot clock for your opponent. Switching from man to multiple zone defenses, which can change the flow of the game.
As it stands now. You cannot ask Garza & Joe W to play 35 minutes, defend man and get the production you need from them on the offensive end.
In many ways, we'll see Fran leave his comfort zone this year.
Either way, I enjoy watching this team compete.

Good effort, psu was just slightly the better team today.

Hopefully the team will refocus and take care of business the next time out.

We can't afford to slip up against NW and Nebraska on the road. Those need to be "W's". If we lose either of those we could be in a spot of trouble.

Minus CJ and the grueling game played today —- I’m very concerned about Tuesday. Keep in mind Nebraska beat Purdue at home.

Really proud of the short-handed team today, they played great. The on floor coaching performance was great tonight as well.

Too bad the Administration / IA coaching staff to hand the PSU team a home court advantage that is considered a neutral court didn't bring it tonight.

A really, really bad decision.

I'd say that and without Tyler Cook, we don't have anyone that can physically matchup one on one with Lamar Stevens. I was expecting a lot of zone vs. PSU anyway.

With some short turnarounds coming up, it very well could become a trend.

Talked to Speraw after the game. Said guys are sick. I said Connor and Cordell? He nodded yes.

Well, we still lost so...

does this really count as a nuetral game when it comes to the net rankings or whatever?

if so that seems really idiotic, unless we are playing a "neutral" game in DSM next year vs them.

It appears this is considered a neutral game & is treated as such in the Net rankings.

I don’t follow the whole Net rankings that closely but believe in this case it is/was a Quad 1 game regardless of a true away at PSU or this “fake away / neutral” game at The Palestra.

When it comes to these "quadrants" is it based on their net ranking at the time of the game or is it based on their ranking at the end of the year?

They are currently top 20 so if the current rank is all that matters, then location is a non factor for the game....I think. :)

Just saw this question directed to me I presume.

I'm nearly certain it's based on a team's present NET ranking (the end of the year is the one that counts as you mention) - not when the game was played. It does seems likely that PSU game will end up being a Quad 1 even with this considered a neutral game.
