Dale Jones not sure where he will play next year

Here is a dumb question. If he graduated, why does he need a scholarship? Can't he become a walk-on should he want to stay here? Now, I am not sure why he would want to do that, but wouldn't that be an option?

I guess he could walk on, but why? He'd have to pay his own way through grad school, and given next years roster, minutes will be very hard to come by. Time to cut the cord.

I don't why he would want to continue to play. The guy is snake bitten.
He has his degree, go get a job and save your knees.

Its not like we're talking about football players playing with multiple head injuries and dealing with CTE down the road. Dale was likely going to play 5-10min per game this year but broke his wrist, hardly something that will impact his quality of life down the road. People have multiple ACL tears and their quality of life after sports is fine, including but not limited to skiing, hiking, biking, etc. If he is medically cleared to play, why not exhaust what eligibility remains? If he is on track to graduate this spring and another school is willing to take him as a graduate transfer while allowing him to begin work on his masters, sounds like a win/win to me.

People have different personalities. Pete smiles. Dale doesn't. Speaking personally, I played all three major sports in high school and ran track, and then I played some D-1 football and four years of D-1 baseball, and I guarantee you I NEVER smiled once while on the court or the field. That was my competitive persona.

Off the field I was still quiet, but I smiled and joked around almost like a normal person.;)

So I wouldn't read much of anything into all of it. And if I were Dale, I'd be especially somber knowing how much I had lost due to the uncontrollable factor of injuries. I wish the young man well wherever he goes and whatever he does.

Dale could transfer and play for Drake or possibly even UNI. Many options including in-state. He would then have one year of a grad program paid for as well. I would take that deal in a heartbeat if I were him.

Why?=$$$$$$$$$

To allow him to rehabilitate his knee and set him up to do a graduate transfer for immediate playing time on his 6th year...or if we get some surprise transfers this spring, maybe the playing time next year is at Iowa.

Not likely to happen, but what if Jones suddenly gets 3pt hot on B1G tourney or NCAA.
Jones won't even see the court unless the game is a blowout. So your "what if" is just plain nonsense.

This is the way of life in the NCAA, since it started granting 6th years (thank you Jess Settles).. Doesn't seem unfair to me at all. Same thing with Spike Albrecht last year. Michigan had already signed 2 recruits so there were no schollies left.

It might actually be unfair if Fran restricted his transfer to a school he wanted to go to (hypothetically like ISU or UNI) because we play them. That would likely get a coach some media backlash.
I don't know the scholarship situation at UNI, but I would be happy for him if he was able to play there. It would basically be a homecoming for him.

I've listened to his interviews in the past and he seems to be very grounded and mature. I'm not surprised to hear he wanted the spotlight on Jok for his last game.
