The loss of Dale earlier this season is now showing how big it was for Iowa. He was the only bench player that could come in the game and get up his shots and be productive scoring the ball and rebounding. We're now seeing our bench struggle over the last month or so and it's caused our starters to play heavier minutes. He seems to be the missing piece off the bench or starting line up shake up player that we're needing right now.

Yup. Really hurt losing another scorer. He would have been a great third option on offense.

Would have been nice having him coming off the bench rather than Ellingson in the conference season

If Jones were healthy you'd be seeing a ton of these two line ups

Ellingson is a guard, Jones is a forward.

True, Suterman. But Dale could and would attempt 3s, had a decent dribbling ability and could make some passes to open players. Dale could get engaged in both the offensive and defensive flows of a game. Ellingson is becoming less revelant to this team's future. Dale could work well with Wagner and Baer or Uhl on the floor. In fact, Baer and Jones would be better 3 point shooters than Ellingson and Clemmons. But wishing cannot change reality. Jones is injured and who knows if he will ever return.

The real problem is getting quality minutes out of the bench players because the starters' minutes have been rising. The long season is chewing up our starters. Not many top 25 teams have starting SGs who are 6'1" or 6'2". Ellingson is 6'3" at best and he is not playing with much confidence. He is a second year freshman. He knows the playbook and Fran's mindset. Lack of execution.

We would not use Gesell with Clemmons as much. Jones was not starter material yet. Better off the bench.

Gesell, Baer, Jok, Uthoff, Woody
Clemmons, Jones, Uhl ,Wagner.

Baer does a good job passing, defense and occasional ball handling. Jones, Baer, Jok rotation to keep a decent 3 point shooter on the floor. Jok move to 2 when Jones is in. Uhl relieve Uthoff and Wagner and Woody rotate.
