Damn, Fran praising/explaining why Connor has to be on the floor at the end of games

This is not good news for the long term of this season.

Touissant/Ulis/Perkins are the key to this season being anything memorable imo.
They should all be starting but then again nothing is easier on our collective brains than Connor and JBo replacing two of them after a nice defensive stretch.

He’s a floor general who understands the zone defense inside and out; so much so he directs the younger (and I assume) dumber players on what to do in real time. Very valuable to the ball club.

Our zone defense is garbage. Any defense of Fran's is generally garbage whether it's zone or man. Get the better defenders out there. Fran refuses to play his best defenders together and it's going to cost this team wins.

It is what it is. Connor, and to a lesser extent Bohannon, will continue to get floor time that should go to other players. Fran has made that clear.

did you watch a couple of those guys last night?

When Fran went zone last night, in particular in the second half, it gave Maryland all kinds of problems. Joe T & Perkins were extremely active, they limited wide open threes and rebounded well out of it.
Fatts Russell was dicing us up in man in the first half and the zone effectively nullified his quickness.
That was the zone defense I was watching last night. Garbage, I think not.

He should have been yanked for the rest of the game for the turnover then bitching to the ref, giving up a score.
I’m fairly certain fran called that timeout immediately following to stop conner from chirping and getting a t.

He had plenty of poor plays, but he was fouled on that play--not horribly and it's a play that gets called sometimes and not others. This one happened to be a no-call and led to points.
There are nights when he is way more valuable than other nights, but I certainly don't feel last night was one of his "plus" nights.

What are you talking about?

everytime the ball moves to Connor he stops, takes 2 dribbles, doesn’t improve his position, doesn’t become a threat to drive or shoot, and lets what ever advantages we’ve created with ball and player movement to that point in time and squanders it, before he passes to a player usually 25 feet from the rim.

that is the definition of an anchor, a broken piece, not a “floor general“.

lokk at Ulis, JoeT, Perkins are always driving penetrating , always a threat to penetrate and score or dish,
jobo is a threat to shoot and must be closely defended,

connor is the lowest ranked player in the team for a reason…

JBo at the end of games makes sense as he give them a very solid free throw shooter and court smarts at crunch time (especially with the lead). Conner I am not convinced is that important at any time during the game. Kris Murray would have his minutes tied up if he could make a higher percentage of his shots. Kris needs to hit shots to get those minutes.

the telling moment for me was when PMac wasn’t getting it done , he was pulled for Conner instead of Kris Murray going in
Wrong F ing brother
You are calling an Iowa team member that!!!? This place has become worse than a cesspool.

the problem with the play was the instantaneous thought to bitch to the ref rather than play. It happens on almost every call against Conner.

I was being sarcastic. I was echoing the sentiment of Fran at the press conference, shortly after the game. Fran preempted the question about why Connor was out there. What I said in my earlier post is the reason Fran said he was out there.

With Connor’s ft% he should NOT be playing at the end of games trying to protect a lead. It makes zero sense.

Is it nepotism when he replaced his brother? Connor took minutes from Pat
With the way Pat has been playing, the answer could be yes to your question. Pat is in a slump as well. It’s like he intentionally ties to shoot the most difficult shot he can. Last night during one play, he turned left away from the basket creating a really difficult shot attempt. He could have turned to his right and been 3 ft from the hoop. Those floaters also have to stop. It's low percentage shot.

Connor would not see minutes like he's getting if he were on the roster for any other B1G team. I won't argue that he couldn't play D-1 somewhere. But for a power conference team he would be getting single digit minutes per game, and for more than a few not seeing the floor other than mop up duty. Whether or not that meets the definition of nepotism that is what's happening.

This is Hawks 2nd String court minut#s vs Maryland
Connor .......18 min.
Ulis...............15 min.
P#rkins........14 min

Sandfort.......2 min.

Yikes. Kris was off last night, which happens, but the 18 should've been about 10, with the majority of the remaining 8 split between Ulis and Perkins. I thought Tony played very well last night.

Kris needs to start over PMac. PMac gives this team nothing except wild ass out of control shots. Doesn’t rebound and doesn’t play good defense.
While I think the majority of people on here would agree, you do know that's never going to happen, correct? I think a lot of people saw the potential in Keegan last year (not sure we knew he was a lottery pick) and now Kris is the one wasting away. Absolutely ridiculous that Fran says Conor has to play because he knows how to play zone defense as the QB. You should not play in today's game of basketball if you can't or won't shoot. We have a potential NBA player now in his 2nd year wasting away on the bench behind him.

The zone wasn't good but it was better than man unfortunately.

Iowa was apparently incapable of defending that double high screen for Russell in man.

As much as I hate zone it accomplished what it needed to last night.

It took away Marylands main weapon and made the rest of the team try to beat hawks with 3pt shooting and they couldn't do it.

The zones effectiveness dropped off a cliff when Fran subbed Jbo for Perkins though.

Dear Lord YES. If I never see a full sprint crossing through the lane floater again, I would be fine with that.

Yeah. He looks the part, but he doesn't help with any area of the game. Maybe on the front end of the press some, but that help is few and far between. I would rather Perkins start ahead him personally.
