Darien Porter Question

Just want to make sure I know what I am wrong about: My statement was that receivers such as Darboh, Martin, and Arrington (and now Porter) choose to go to other schools, even though we wanted them. My presumption is that they chose to do that (at least in part) because they know we don't have a great track record with receivers.. we are not a pass friendly (WR friendly) scheme... and most receivers would like to be known as big play receivers who can also block.. not good blockers who can catch the ball.
If you are saying Iowa didn't want those guys... then we are idiots. So what am I wrong about?

Me thinks you are too close to this one. I can assure you if a WR was at Bett Iowa has known of him since he put on pads. There was a brief second where Iowa evaluated all options and Iowa state acted. As far as I know Iowa still hasnt offered and it's not like those 2 have been afraid to go head to head. Looking at who they did sign they liked a kid from Kansas city more.

I may have read it wrong but you said the reason Porter choose ISU was that they identified him first and recruited him while Iowa was still deciding. So I thought that was the reason the players you listed did not go to Iowa. THAT would not be accurate.

Common ground found. I may have articulated my point poorly. Either way... I think we agree on what my point was... #1 receivers from our own state have been electing to go elsewhere. In my opinion, it's because they know they are not a good fit for our system, whether we like that or not, I consider it more than a coincidence.
I do have some ties to this family so I know much of the recruiting process of Porter and am admittedly extra sensitive if I see someone saying something stupid like he doesn't work or off the filed concerns.

According to Rivals data base he has exactly one offer and he took it. Living in Bettendorf I’ve seen him play many times. IMO he is a good athlete but at this time not really a good receiver. I’ve heard nothing but good things about him. The times I interacted with him while he was working at HyVee lead me to believe he is just that, a good kid. I really hope Iowa gets Carter Bell from Bettendorf to walk on. I think he’s really got a chance with his quickness to become a good slot receiver.

ISU is trying to make their way into Eastern Iowa and may take some chances along the way to do so. Iowa takes some chances so who knows if it’ll payoff for them. Sounds like a good kid and athlete. The rest TBD.

I know he’s a soft verbal to ISU and I believe he would jump at an Iowa offer. He had trouble with drops last year but some say it was due to an injured wrist.

I have never seen film or seen this kid play but to steal a line from an Iowa State assistant coach looking at his measureables "I am underwhelmed".
6'3''-167lbs
4.65 40 yd dash
4.22 shuttle
31 inch vertical

Forget that the 40 yard dash and shuttle are not that impressive. It is the vertical (or lack of in this case) that "jumps out" (pun intended) to me. Vertical leap is a measurement of explosiveness not just how high a kid can get. Obviously coaches are seeing something from on the field they like. Could be he has a great work ethic, catches everything thrown his way, great body control, good football IQ, but certainly appears to be a "project" that may take a while to contribute.

6'3" 167... couldn't block a student manager with that build.
