Davenport North made the playoffs!!!

How does 4A work now? Are they using a draft lottery? I heard the lower classes went back to 16-team playoffs with only district champs and runner-ups qualifying (the way it should have stayed).

Edit: Whoops! The lower classes are still stupid too.

Mason city made it one year with 1-8 record.

Next year they the playoff field in half.

First time in school history!

With a 1-6 record. o_O

Man, Iowa high school football is a complete joke under this new district system. Derp.
This is where I think high school football is messed up. I understand North has 1000 students. But if you have had one winning season in your history, why are they playing 4A? This program is at least another decade away before they will play consistent competitive football in 4A. There should be some sort of competition clause, where, if you haven't had a winning season in say, a decade, you get to move down a class. Something. I know some of you are having fun with this, but I feel bad for the kids who have gone through this program, and have had their brains beat in for 4 years. I think those are some of the toughest kids in the state. The kids who have stuck with that team for their entire high school career. Ass kicking after ass kicking. My hat goes off to those kids. 30 years with 1 winning season. It's sad.

Also...they have no business being in the playoffs this year.

I will edit to say, Davenport Assumption, full of 4a talent, and a school that was in the playoffs consistently, got to move down a class. Yes they have less kids, but they are a far, far stronger football program than any of the public schools. They can compete in 4a. The public schools haven't since North was invented.

Davenport North has never defeated Assumption in football...ever.
Davenport Central's last win over Assumption was 1987... and I think that was the last time Davenport West beat them too, but am not 100% sure...

Which is my point. Assumption is an extremely good 4A team most years. They get to drop to 3A. North wouldn't even have a winning record in 2A. Before North came along, Central and West dominated Assumption. The third high school was added and immediately Davenport football went in the crapper and hasn't come close to getting better.
