You hear the committee use the phrase the "eye test". A lot of the pundits use it in justifying ranking Iowa so low. I went to Webster's Dictionary and looked up the definition.

"Eye Test"
noun
1. A phrase commonly used by biased pundits and college football committee members to validate and justify their lower ranking of a football team (Iowa) even when all the facts, data, and metrics tells them otherwise.

Example:
Why did you rank Baylor higher than Iowa?

"Iowa doesn't have a good enough offense" Jeff Long CFP Chair

They have more offensive touchdowns than Alabama and average more per offensive play

"Iowa hasn't beaten any quality opponents" Jeff Long CFP Chair

They are the only team with two wins on the road against Top 25 teams. No one in the country has done that.

"Iowa doesn't pass the eye test" Jeff Long CFP Chair

2. A phrase commonly used by biased pundits and college football committed members to validate and justify their higher ranking of a football team due to the name on their jersey even when all the facts, data, and metrics tell them otherwise.

"We think Baylor is a better team" Jeff Long CFP Chair

Yeah but Baylor hasn't beaten anyone with a winning record and Iowa has beaten two top 25 teams on the road. And Baylor's defense couldn't stop a bad high school football team from getting five yards a down. Iowa has more quality wins and a tougher schedule.

LOL...yep. Baylor's opponents are >20 games BELOW .500; they are really really awful.

They and TCU have had ridiculously poor schedules to date; TCU was exposed vs. a good OKSt team, and Baylor is likely next. They will use their QB as an excuse (perhaps partly justified), but we'll see how they fare vs. teams with an actual pass rush and DBs that can cover receivers.

Jeff Long wears glasses, he didn't pass the eye test either.

Give any SEC team Iowa's 9-0 start and opponents and they are hands down, far and away, ranked #1 in every single poll AINEC

Eye Test: What team or coach would you most like to do if you're, let's say, into that.

The "eye test" is simply a substitute for recruiting stars, prestige, and a brand of football that jacks up the score of games which maximizes point differential against weaker teams. Our style of play is plodding, which is exactly why we can compete with and beat teams with all the 4 and 5 stars talent.
