Delay of game on a field goal

Seriously?
Yeah, 40 seconds to get that kick off. as soon as that pass was waved incomplete they shouldhave been lined up with 25 seconds to go.

A bit of that is on Stevens for taking a good bit of time to line up his kick

I rewinded it and watched it and no way that is a delay of game
Yeah I agree. It doesn't really matter anyway. But I was surprised how fast the flag was thrown just as the clock ticked to zero, which is usually not the case. Oh well.

Honestly just have the holder back up another 5 yards so it makes it over the line. Why is he kicking low all the sudden?

Really, the 40 second play clock starts when that pass hits the ground. Did you start counting the time from that moment?
It shouldn’t have mattered. Steven’s was out there with 20 seconds. He was just fiddling around. Shouldn’t have come down to 1/2 a second.

Stevens has vapor lock right now. He stared at the ball forever and caused the delay, that wasn’t actually a delay.

There’s a reason every team kicks FGs at 7 yds. The snap/hold/kick timing would be impossible to rep unless you do it every day. At a deeper depth, the block angles of the defense are a lot easier. In theory, kicking from 8 or 9 makes sense, but it would be a nightmare trying to protect the kick.

Hats off to the coach that put the backup kicker in for the winner. Steven’s as the fault for each of the blocked kicks. Honestly haven’t been crazy about a kicker that taunts after a fg lol.

After a couple more looks, the posters on this thread have made some important points but they are things that can be improved upon. Number 3 is the headscratcher

1. The FG team was out there and in place with 18 to 19 seconds left. The pass was incomplete with LOS at the 8 yd line so why didnt the coaches get the FG team out there right away and set with about 30 seconds to go.

This needs to be a quicker process. Before 3rd down snap and a pass play maybe Kirk should be saying in headphones/or however they are going FG on incompletion.

2, Stevens was taking his sweet time, he hid on the last couple of seconds sort of shifting his body around and Taylor asked if he was ready with a couple of seconds to go.

So get ready, set go, and snap quicker

3. Why the hell didnt the coaches call timeout. It is set to be a low scoring game so a timeout seemed good to call

Points 1 and 3 here’s my take. 18-19 seconds is plenty of time. We were set at 10-12 seconds easily. Stevens was just walking around, he had plenty of time. It looked like he was ready at 4-5 seconds but we just didn’t hike it for some reason. I’m assuming the coaches thought we would snap it with a second or 2. We should have.

Not trying to kick the guy while he's down, but that was 100% on Drew. You can tell he's in his head as he was moving around, not getting set. He looks very uncomfortable out there.

He's usually rock solid, hope it's not something outside football that's got him twisted up.
