Whose name isn't Trump. Hear me out, if somebody can beat him in Iowa that will put a huge hole in his armor and his supporters won't be able to talk about the fn polls. I am doing my best to rally conservatives to do the same but let's take Trump out and make him go home. I realize some of you are going to laugh at this, but do you really want to take a chance and play with fire? If you weren't running Biden I wouldn't be as concerned, but right now he is. (Right now I am planning on voting for Biden in the General if he is up against Trump) if that makes you feel any different

The only thing that could get me to register from independent to republican would be if i would be able to go in and vote, and not waste an evening in a room full of fvcking republicans

I’m trying to work out how much money you’d have to pay me to spend an evening with a bunch of frothing Ioway MAGA. I’m still a registered repub so I could theoretically crash the numpty party.

Read an article that RDS campaign is knocking on doors in Iowa, NH, and SC. Over a million knocks supported by a PAC. They are making little to no headway, most R's are supporting Trump. Conversely, Haley is doing no door to door, but is actually gaining some ground on RDS and even passing him in NH.

As a registered R, I had one of these door knockers at my home. I've seen him around town as well, at all times of the day. While probably futile, it was good to see.

Agree with OP. If I lived in Iowa, I’d reregister from nonpartisan to Republican and caucus for Haley. I might anyway if the race isn’t over by the time it gets to my state.

This is who I will probably caucus for. My area is not "that" type of Republican. Trump finished 5th or 6th in 2016 in my precinct. The guy who spoke for him had absolutely nothing to say... literally nothing. Said I think you should consider Trump because he is different. That was the extent of it.

All of you who are upset with the caucus and/ or primary... apathy is how we end up with horrible candidates. The ones who support and care about the guy you hate are there.

Complete waste of time. I don't really like caucusing with democrats. I am sure as hell not going to spend a minute in a roomful of Iowa republicans.
Republican caucus is actually a bit more tolerable IIRC. At least the one I went to in 2008 (Ron Paul reLOVEution forever). They do secret ballots at least. Still the same local caucus biz and rigamarole before the voting, but that's handled with secret ballots until the unviables are all out. This could have changed. But my lord do I hate caucuses. If they were ever the better way to do things, that time ended well before the cold war did.

I wish Biden would LBJ it and let Dems have a primary for his replacement. And it ain't happening. And unlike a few months ago, I now have serious doubts Biden would beat Trump again. I have thought a couple times about registering R and caucusing for whoever is leading between Haley/DeSantis, but the numbers just aren't there to make a difference. Plus that type of ratf**kery is a wee bit undemocratic. I would be pissed if a bunch of Republicans showed up to vote for some milquetoast centrist D while a future D candidate similar to Bernie was doing well in polls.

Put all of that aside because we are dealing with Trump

You know who has the best chance to stop him? Republicans.
Don't try to blame Trump on Democrats. You did this.
Like everything Repubs expect Democrats to fix their **** ups. Hey here is a ****ing thought...MAAAYBE your party has nothing to offer and you should wake the F up and support someone who doesn't align with what they've had to offer. Not a single one besides Christie has called out Trump in any way and he still bent his knee the first time around and it took Trump almost killing him for him to change his tune. Why would I waste any energy going out to help any of them they won't be that much better. You and everyone and your party brought Trump on us and if you want to change it then you should convince Republicans to support someone who actually doesn't support Trump and what he has done. There are no current candidates like that so hard pass from me.

So who is everyone in Iowa going to caucus for instead of Trump? Last poll I saw had DeSantis and Haley in a dead heat and if those two camps were to strike a deal and pool behind one of them, they'd still be about half as popular as Trump in Iowa. It might help in later states if one of them gains momentum from Iowa, but one of them has to drop out along with the single digit field before Iowa. Way too many Republicans running again, they basically all have the same or very similar platform as Trump, none of them have whatever charm it is he has that had him so far ahead right now.

Well then don’t bitch if Trump becomes President when you had an opportunity to stop him

So it's the Dems fault if Trump is elected? The reason is they didn't fake being Republicans and caucus against him?

No offense, but you've been MAGA life for about a decade now. I'm glad you finally came to your senses on Trump, but you're a dollar short and a day late. BAU. The next time I take political advice from you, will be the first. I hope most are the same considering you're brilliant idea above. JFC you're dumb

I plan to go to the caucus, register as a republican (Yuck) and support Chris Christie as he is the only candidate to stand up to Trump. I will do this because Trump is such a threat to our society I feel I need to do anything I reasonably can to stop him from becoming President again.

After I'm done I will take a delousing shower.

Voting Christie would definitely feel less icky than Haley or DeSantis, but isn't he polling low single digits in Iowa? If stopping Trump is your #1 priority, caucusing for Christie rather than one of Haley or DeSantis seems like one lousy evening to me on top of a waste of time. Hell that time would be better spent going to the Dem caucus and figuring out new arguments with those guys to convince non-Dems to vote Biden in 2024. Something better than "not trump" and it's going to have to be better because people who don't follow politics closely can look around in 2024 and see a war in Ukraine, a war in Gaza that's possibly spilling out wider, and the same cost of living issues more or less than have been happening since COVID.

If you believe the polls there's no use caucusing for anyone but Trump. I don't expect anyone but Trump to win Iowa but if the numbers can be better than expected for Christie maybe that will give him a bump. If it seems like a lost cause and Haley is doing well I may cast my vote for her as she is the next least objectionable.

It may not happen, but if we can get enough Independents and Democrats to to this maybe we can oust Trump before the election. Nothing hurt in trying.

Preach to your own, man.

Dems have been beating the drum about who trump is for 8-9 years and none of you wanted to hear it. Go pound sand.

I don't understand the logic, though.

We want to keep Trump out of office, right? I don't think there is anything more important than that for our country. So logic dictates we do everything we possibly can to keep him out of office. For me, that means I changed my registration to Republican so I can vote in the primary and do what I can to keep Trump of the GOP ballot. And I am urging fellow Democrats to do the same.

Nothing in your response is related to solving our Trump problem.

I dont understand the logic of a person who has defended MAGA and MAGA policies coming in and telling democrats they need to clean the republicans party from themselves because he finally realizes what the dems have been saying about trump for the last 8-9 years have been correct.

Id take his pleas with a grain of salt until he makes his elevator pitch to the people of his own party first.

If trump gets elected next november, this country will get what it deserves.

Just asking for help in the caucus/primary not in the general

But this isn't about the OP. It isn't about any of the tens of millions of Trump supporters. It's about taking whatever action we can, as concerned citizens, to keep Trump out of office and protect our country.

Yes, if those of us who know Trump is a threat choose to not do what we can, then we will deserve whatever results we get.

This.

If Trump gets 60% of the Iowa caucus vote rather than 80% it changes the perception, and perception is huge in the primaries. There is no excuse in not doing everything we can.

You want Trump even sniffing the White House? Well here is your chance to WORK TOGETHER to get rid of him

If independents swing to trump in november or cant be bothered to vote for biden because “he is old” then maybe we are better off letting the country collapse. If maga is the future of the republican party, it doesnt matter if trump is on the ballot or not.

If trump gets in, and everything goes to complete hell and trump does what he says he wants to do, maybe this country can kill the maga problem quicker than we can by killing the leader, just in time for the next leader to take control

So R's need the help of the D's to make a good candidate? Why not just vote for a D at that point?
