21 point with over Cornell 75-54. They only shot 6-21 from 3. Still made it look pretty easy. Quick hands on defense will get them far and I believe in the tournament. Hawks still can get there too though lots to prove, this month with tell us a lot about who they are.

depaul still hasn't played a good team. cornell was a .500 team in the ivy last year, sub .500 overall.

I understand the desire to believe that an opponent that demolished the team you support is good. And maybe depaul will defy essentially all the preseason expectations and finish in the upper half of the big east and make the ncaa tourney. So far they've not really done anything that makes it likely that will happen.

Iowa can turn their season around; it's not likely they'll make the tourney, but it could happen. I'm doubting, though, that a drubbing by depaul at home is going to help their resume if it comes to an at large bid.

DePaul has Texas Tech on Dec. 4. It's a home game for them at Wintrust Arena. 10,387 is the seating capacity. Given that, if they can somehow pull off an upset of TT I'd say that they were for real.

So many negative waves Moriarty

Depaul is pretty good...they also shot exceptionally well vs us...but that doesn't make me feel better about Iowa's prospects...Iowa has to show a pulse vs a good team. Right now they look footspeed challenged.

I think DePaul is legit.

We now have to hope that Depaul is the real deal and wins a lot of games this year. That combined with this Iowa team getting back on track is still possible.

I think that maybe I didn't say this very well and can understand how some would read what I said to be an indication that it was about Iowa making the NCAA tournament....that's not what I intended. So, to try and clarify.

The loss to Depaul was crushing for my hopes as a fan....hopes that this Iowa team would/will be at least decent, as in middle of the B10 pack this year. The main problems I saw were a lack of foot speed/athleticism by the Hawks and a long persistent problem, which is defending the 3. Depaul, who hasn't shot the ball well in any of the other games that I am aware of, was shooting the lights out. We got beat back on defense, we gave up offensive rebounds, we had multiple problems related to playing against a team that was generally very quick.

I am trying to reason how this one game isn't, or won't be indicative, of the rest of the year.......I'm hoping it's not, KNOWING it's to early in the season to reach a conclusion about how things will go...but knowing that you can't ignore the evidence of what we see.

That said, is why I think we have to hope that Depaul is the real deal and finishes the year with a good record....that they are better than preseason predictions (and I think this is true).

Then we have to hope this Iowa team can right the ship.....I worry that we can't. That they aren't capable, but I hope that they are. Oral Roberts is not a team that we can necessarily rejoice in beating....but, listening on the radio I heard Bobby Hansen say that the defense looked a lot better. I heard Fran say that he had pushed to hard and put to much on the team prior to the Depaul game....maybe the cause for them playing a half a step slower...

Keep hope alive!

It's not the loss to DePaul that stung. It was getting blitzed with no answer for the entire game. Not uncommon to get down due to hot shooting and maybe the game ends in a L, but to get down 19-2 and not make any runs was disappointing. Saying they were sideways the entire game would be an understatement. Equally disappointing was seeing Iowa get totally overwhelmed athletically at all 5 positions. I don't know if DePaul will have a good season, but they will be representative of the level of athleticism Iowa will face after these last few (hopefully) scheduled win games.

I think DePaul is for real this year.

I don't think DePaul is a Top 25 team but I think they will make the NCAA field. A Chicago sports writer friend of mine after the loss told me DePaul is surprising a lot of the Chicago writers right now. Not because they have talent and are winning but because the team has been able to put all their talented pieces and question marks together and make a well rounded talented team. He said if they keep playing this team ball they're going to turn heads in the Big East.

They certainly impressed me. As the season goes on it will be interesting to see just how good they really are.

They may have more fans on this site than Iowa after February.

I wonder how many more of these types of threads about “the team who just stomped us” will be started the remainder of the year?

Let's hope not many, but the gauntlet starts next Thursday. Iowa could play decent ball and lose 5-6 in a row based on the competition. Contested losses are one thing, getting run out of they gym is another. I may take the 'At least beat Iowa State' mindset and be happy with any additional wins.

Makes that offer from DePaul for Ulis look a little better to me. Their staff appears to be pretty good at evaluating talent.

Good point. I am old enough to remember the really good DePaul teams of Dallas Comegys, Rod Strickland and Tyrone Corbin. They had it rolling and then had a bad succession plan to the Meyers kid and then they fell off a cliff. Attendance at their games make Iowa hoops look like Alabama football and I suspect even a better product isn't going to have much of an impact in Chicago.

Lots of players from Chicago, Michigan and Indiana. Paul Reed from Florida. That guy sort of emerged from obscurity. Heard the announcers saying he has taken a huge step this season from last and is a legit NBA prospect. Thought I recognized the name but couldn't place it at the time, but Jalen Coleman-Lands transferred from Illinois. One would think they could pull Chicago kids + transfers and field a pretty good team if they restore some level of respectability to the program.

Maybe the DePaul loss wasn't so bad after all? We will see what the committee says in March.

A lot has changed since the 70’s and early 80’s. Chicago recruits had tons of options to go anywhere and to marquee programs. DePaul was not in a power 5/6 league until recently.

Seriously though... as if it somehow makes IOWA a better team than they really are if teams that stomped their ass continue to do well, or if you have to constantly point out other top 25 teams losing to, or playing close games to inferior opponents has any correlation to IOWA, at all.

It does matter. If at the end of the year DePaul sucks, then this is a really bad loss. If they’re good it’s not viewed as a bad loss to the committee. Common sense man

Ohhh “the committee”... my point was people trying to make themselves and others feel better about losing to a certain team, or worse, fans pointing out loses of other top teams to feel better as well... As far as the committee aspect goes, I don’t think anyone is going to have to be worried about that this year. Common sense man.
Well that’s like your opinion, man.
