*****Tennessee vs Iowa Game Thread*****

I'm still trying to understand Hannah's bull in a china shop offense. She really isn't very skilled with the ball. I hold my breath when she is called on to dribble. Good on the boards though.
She forces too many bunnies when can't get open.

I was told we would be fine when Lucy came back. Not
Lucy wasn't the problem. UT's physical athleticism on 2 platoons. Too much for McCabe, Feuerbach, Affolter, and the frosh. Not to mention Steulke trying to bring the ball up vs 2-man pressure. The Vol's roster is much like So Carolina, LSU, Texas. We don't have a lot of experienced physical length.

Tell who "we" beat? My point was 3 games in ppl were bitching about not being ranked..let it play out..
Right now they alot to figure out against legit teams. Dont agree? Fine.
Did a lot more than others.. only 3 home games so far.. won at Drake and 4 neutral site games.. not playing 300+ rated cupcakes like most teams..

Most metrics have us in the top 25.. but at the same time our schedule/conference is going to be challenging from here on out.. so there’ll definitely be more losses this year. Can’t panic on every one.

Jan will have to trust the kids with playing time. The lack of guard play outside of Lucy is glaring. It’s not a bad loss but how they lost is disappointing.

Teams that are aggressive on D know the refs can’t call everything. Just daring the refs to call fouls.

Not the reason we lost.. we had tons of horrific decisions. We’ll see more teams attack us, but they won’t do it as well as Tennessee with almost full line changes to stay fresh.

Clark had plenty of turnovers and wasn't very good at defense when she was in college. Tremendous scorer and passer however.
Yeah and how'd they do tonight against the press without the GOAT who could beat the press on her own and make the other team pay with the pass. There were games last year teams stopped the press in the 1st quarter because she was burning them so bad. I can live with her getting 10 TOs while the team was scoring 90+.

Tennessee is a very good, very athletic team. They will win a lot of games.

Iowa has some glaring issues. Hopefully they can overcome some of them and find the things that work. I don't see anyone working to get someone an open 3, so maybe it's just not a focus.

They also need to run screens for Olsen to get down in the paint. They can work with that, but just throwing lobs isn't probably going to have great success.

Iowa led for a lot of the game. They can rebound from the loss, learn from it.

*Important to note: Iowa's last loss that wasn't in the NC game was 2/22/23. Not a bad run.

Didn't watch, but 3 pt. shooting is not good.

Oh, well...beat ISU and get another streak going.

But, you mentioned it.....she was the GOAT. She gone. Whatcha gonna do? Btw, I agree she was/is a tremendous passer and scorer.

Incredible record! I don't want to look it up but I wonder who beat Iowa on Feb? Indiana? Maryland? I can't remember.

To your point about running screens and getting people open. Was that just a "tonight" thing? I haven't been watching close enough I guess but I couldn't tell you what I was offense was trying to accomplish tonight.

Haven’t watch it yet- but how did we out rebound them and yet they had many more shots than us??

Ruled a common foul.... I don't believe that is how the rule reads....
Its hilarious that they even put that rule in because its almost NEVER called a flagrant. Waste of time even reviewing it because we knew they would call it a common foul.....

Safe to say that after that game our weakness is passing and dribbling against hyper-athletic teams. This team would've lost to Colorado last year in the tourney, who tried to guard us the same way, just constant full court aggression with better athletes. But Colorado couldn't shoot worth a crap and we squeaked by them. Maybe Jan should bring some HS dudes in to practice to simulate that pressure again and what we need to do to stop it.

Not many 3 point attempts for Iowa this half.
Thats because we have literally NO consistent three point shooters on the team. Said that before the season. Last years team averaged 94 pts/gm. This one is at 74pts/gm. That is a HUGE difference. We're hanging in games right now because we're playing harder on defense, but beside the lack of transition offense we are VERY limited behind the three point line, and can not spread the floor....

Some of the laughing and smiling seemed odd when they were playing like crap. Clark would not have allowed it. Who's the leader on this team? I don't see anyone getting fired up or in people's face to step up and make a play.
Clark laughed at herself after boneheaded plays/shots. She had all types of emotions.

Implying that they don’t care seems silly to me. The main smilers on the team is Olsen and Feuerbach.. then O Grady smirks when she disagrees with a call.. which played doesn’t have the correct intensity for you?

Affolter played way too much tonight. I get she’s got experience but she provided next to nothing tonight. Guyton needed more minutes. Feurbach should’ve played more in the 3rd qtr, needed her athleticism. O’Grady is athletically limited, the over the top lobs aren’t going to be very successful when the girl you’re passing to can’t effectively go get the ball in the air. Need some designed plays trying to free up mccabe. Her shooting is much needed
Even when McCabes open she's passing up shots. I'd agree, I thought Heiden earned more minutes and she's a true rim protector....

I don't know. Just a feeling I had tonight watching this game. I didn't sense the urgency. I never saw them getting each other fired up or talking to each other much. I might have been seeing things or just mad at the situation. I do recall one turnover by Alfolter late in the 2nd half that was laughed about by her and someone running up the court together That kinda got me.

It wasn't 2/22/23. It was 2/22/24 obviously.....

Ah! The "we suck" crew shows up! It must be terrible being a fan for you. Get a grip. They'll be fine
Really people. Over react much. Bad game against legit pressure for the first time. This game will pay dividends for the team and for Jan’s substitution patterns latter this season.
