May have been posted already but DePaul is 3-0 against the BIG this year with wins against Iowa, Minnesota and Northwestern. Not a bad loss all things considered.

That loss at that time felt crushing to my hopes for the year.....fortunately that one game was not representative of what the year would be like. First, DePaul is much better than anticipated before the year, second, according to Fran he had practiced our guys and pushed them pretty hard before that game and said that he should have backed off a little. Those factors along with others add up to a much better Iowa team than what it looked like at the time.

That said.....the B10 is brutally tough. It has proven to be the strongest conference in the country. There are NO-ZERO automatic wins in the conference. EVERY game could go either way.

The one trait I like best about this team is their mental toughness.....

If Nebraska in CHA isnt an auto win, we have problems.

I thought that early in the year....but when you look at all of college basketball those automatic wins are very few and far between. This next game is about as close as it gets to an automatic win. After Nebraska beat Purdue (I know it was at Neb) I just don't see ANY games in the B10 where we can just show up and get the W.

nebby is a bad, bad team. But even against them, in Lincoln, it's not wise to count an automatic W. Iowa absolutely should beat them. They have to do more than just show up at the arena, though.
Lack of effort and execution on the road this year in the league will be punished, even by the dregs.

This. Iowa got beat by a marginal Nebby team there last year. This year, from what I have seen, they have some shooters who can get hot from the 3. If Iowa plays good defense they can win this game. If they go in thinking they already have it won, they will probably lose.

They only won because they got hot and couldn't miss at the end of the game....iirc.

I guess that is everyones point though :D

I obviously hope this doesn't happen....but IF, Iowa were to have 24 turnovers in a game shoot like crap from the free throw line...what B10 team could not beat us in Carver in that situation?

Didn't we pretty much just do this and beat Cincinnati on a neutral court?

Yep.....that’s why I used those figures. Prior to the Cincinnati game I think pretty much all of our fans would have said “there’s no way this team has that many turnovers in a game” ...but obviously we are capable of doing that. I don’t think that we win ANY B10 game with 24 turnovers AND shooting that poorly from the line. Even Nebraska at home.

The bad games at the end of the conference play were mostly defensive collapses. Don't see this group falling apart on the defensive end. Joe T, CJ and CMac play defense like junk yard dogs. I don't think we'll see the poor to mediocre teams (i.e. Rutgers, Nebraska) go off from three like last year.

Cincy is far better than Nebraska.

Oh goodie, another DePaul thread, but I do agree, at the beginning of the season when that game happened I thought it was a five-alarm fire and that we were looking at a 12 overall win season. It really is just the anomaly where it was one night where a team just went nuclear, got out to a huge early lead (16-2 inside 4 minutes) and we were just shell shocked.

It's still going to be a struggle for us to slow down elite teams, and there will probably be a couple more tough nights where we get beat down pretty good. Defensively, the group is decent-to-good, but seldom great.

In the 2 Big 10 games Nebraska has played so far, they beat Purdue in Lincoln by 14 and took Indiana to the wire at Bloomington before losing by 6. They start conference play in 2020 by getting Rutgers and Iowa at home, followed by at Northwestern. Those are the best chances for Nebraska to win another conference game until Northwestern comes to Lincoln on March 1. My point is that Iowa will get their best shot (whatever that is). It will not be an easy win.

Exactly correct....there are no gimme's in this league.

They play three other teams at home that are worse than Iowa before NW gets there in March. IU, PSU and Wisconsin also have to go to Nebby. They have a better chance of beating them than they do Iowa, not that they can't beat the Hawks.

People weren't factoring in how many avoidable turnovers Iowa had to start that game to go along with the opponents hot shooting.

The narrative was Iowa played bad D but that wasn't the reality of how it went.

Looks like Depaul lost tonight at home against Seton Hall 74-66.
DePaul is a much better team than they were given credit for prior to the start of the season. But, it's also worth keeping in mind that they were picked to finish last in the big east for a reason.
They may not finish last, but lower half of the big east is a distinct possibility.

Nebby is bad as in they stink....or totally bad ass?

At least this will finally stop all the "DePaul should be ranked" nonsense.

DePaul is going to win their share of Big East Games, On any given night they can beat anyone. It was anyone's game last night up till the 3 minute mark of the 2nd half. By the end of the year the loss to DePaul will not be a stain on Iowa's record. They will not finish last in the Big East!

They were picked last because no body knew what they had.

Charlie Moore and Paul Reed are big time additions that were not properly being accounted for and Coleman Lands has been another very strong addition.

From what I've seen Reed is a top 2 player in that league. Hes the only guy to really get the better of Garza this year.

Yes, we Iowa fans have blown DePaul up into a Final 4 contender based on one game. Shows that you can't judge basketball teams on one game out of 30+ in a season. Iowa just awful that night and DePaul couldn't miss. It happens, although hopefully not again this year to Iowa. DePaul is better than what they were, but can't be called good.

They're a legit contender to win their conference.

So far, their share of Big East wins is 1.

DePaul is currently 1-10 in the Big East.
