DeVries NOT a candidate for Iowa job. Ben McCollum the next Iowa Head Coach?

They might be good coaches but I find it hard to get super excited about Drake or ex-Drake coaches.

It's not the 90s Drake is a good program that has had really good coaches. Their last two to get hired away have both had good results at their next stop, their AD knows what he's doing.

Lute was like a year removed from coaching JuCo when we hired him and that worked out fine. If a guy can coach he can coach.

If Iowa has its guy already you would think an announcement would be made today or tomorrow so not to get buried under the real start of the NCAA tournament.

If it’s not today or tomorrow we probably have a swing and a miss and on to our second choice.
Could be. But I'm wondering, if DD has accepted Beth's offer, if he wants to hold off a day or two more out of respect to his players' and their fans' disappointment regarding being snubbed by the NCAA. Not sure; just wondering.

It means she is a rookie, and I'm not in favor of shelling out $10M just to hire a coach and then have to pay that coach on top. Especially for men's college basketball. Why gamble so much on something that doesnt produce a whole lot of revenue to begin with.

I'd rather lock up a coach for $2M a year and then have another $3M for NIL each year.
This whole thing is so dumb that I don’t know where to start.

I don’t know which take is the worst - the obvious misogynist attitude towards BG, referring to MBB as not producing a lot of revenue, or suggesting that the Univ can choose to put $ towards coaching or NIL.

You should just sit this one out.

Assuming Devries goes to Indiana, is McCollum a lock?

I mean the big risk for Mc was that he would go to Indiana, but that job would be off the table.

Minnesota might be enticing to him, but it looks like they’re going with Medved.

Sounded like Virginia wants him, but would he really take that job over Iowa?

Seems to me DeVries taking the Indiana job is a heck of a lot better for us than DeVries deciding to stay at WVU

I think it all has yet to play out. Attractive candidates connected to these jobs are still coached in the NCAA. Medved, Odom, Wade, Jans, McCollum. Etc.

Agree with your last point because it takes IU off the table for McCollum which I would still be worried about if DeVries stayed at WVU. Also DeVries taking Indiana is less concerning as far as our NIL situation going forward goes than him staying would be. I can live with getting outbid by Indiana.

I do think if DeVries takes IU McCollum would be a near lock. From what's being reported he really wants the job and is pushing for it behind the scenes and some have suggested he's Beth's favorite candidate

You're not the first poster to state that we should pay less for a coach and use the savings for NIL.

By what mechanism do these savings get "laundered" to create the NIL funds?
The only way that works is if some of the funds come from a booster. They could channel the money either direction.

That is because the Lickliter style was to field a team of sub par athletes and get blown out of the gym by 1st half.

Wisconsin style under Bo Ryan was slow ball, but they won. He was loved.

Iowa had two games in B1G....one vs OSU was low scoring grind out close win. The other way non-stop offense and Iowa players looking like little boys trying to rebound. The OSU game was more fun to watch.
Lick beat Izzo in what had to be his finest Iowa moment, I’m sure. Don’t think either team got out of the 40’s.

Does anyone remember back when Fran was hired if he was a surprise hire (flew under the radar on this site), or were we fairly certain it would be him (similar to how it appears with DD right now)?
I just remember we did not have a good pool of candidates to choose from and guys like Brian Gregory and Kevin Stallings were saying not interested. Fran was the best choice out of the few interested.
