* That Blythe and Walsh were the anchors of last year's line. When their replacements went down it seems logical there would be quite a drop off.
* That our offensive tackles have had trouble against quick pass rushers and blitzes and that CJ has paid the price before.
* That the brace CJ is wearing is not cosmetic.
* That when Miami of Ohio gashes the middle of our d-line we might have some trouble defending the run.
* That our new safety and new starter at linebacker would have a learning curve and that their athletic talent was not elite.
* That our wide receivers have trouble getting separation and one is prone to drops.
* That CJ called the team out for bad practice efforts.
* That our game plan would be conservative, Mitchell would not be available, and Wadley had been icing his knee.
* That a big win against Iowa State is fools gold, and a let down was a possibility.

Vegas set the over under at 8.5 for us this year I'm sure they weren't projecting us to lose to North Dakota State. It'seems quite possible we could lose 3 to 4 more games IF we play to expectations.

That this is not the same team as last year and that when we have a target on our backs we are not very good at exceeding expectations. We will learn a ton about our mental toughness when we go on the road for the first time this week.

Still we were just a couple of first downs away from being a ranked, undefeated team with all our dream goals still in reach. No sense losing our minds over one bad week, but those who had managed to convince themselves that we should expect perfection again this year should have known better. We knew we had question marks.

Oh our fans were warned about most all of this stuff, alright......................if only we had taken it to heart, what a difference that would've made.

Just sayin.

My comments were intended for us as a fan base. As a fan base we knew there were issues and we were aware of several concerns. Yet somehow many wanted to ignore these issues and concerns and managed to convince themselves this 2016 team was invincible.

When the team failed to live up these expectations a good portion of the fan base overreacts to a bad loss. No doubt this was a klinker and the general feeling is we didn't bring our best effort.

The attacking of Doyle is example #1 of overreaction. Before Saturday if anyone had criticism for him we would be united as a fan base to defend him vigorously, point to the love from NFL Hawkeyes, talk about how he was the coach with the most contact with the kids, etc., etc. Afterwards, he's now a problem?

I just intend to enjoy the season knowing now our challenges may be even larger then I thought, but I'm not about give up on the Hawks. Fortunately I knew we had issues and expected disappointments, tho I didn't think it would last Saturday.

On to Rutgers.
