Did Woody just out play

The talented, but young front line of Marquette? Very good game by Adam! He deserves some props.
But that can't be! Ellenson's a 5* recruit who looks like it on the floor- until Iowa. He went 1/8 from the floor for 3 pts. Woody played some D. He also scored 10pts on 4/6 shooting, and had an all-around game with 7rb, 2 ast, 2stls.

They did say Ellenson has played two midget teams. I don't see Ellenson as lottery pick if this is what he does vs good teams. Maybe bad game or maybe Woody and Uthoff are NBA level defenders.

It's probably somewhere inbetween. Ellenson is a talent, but an inexperienced one. On the other hand, Woody and Uthoff are high level defenders. Did you notice the props one of the announcer gave Woody: one of, if not the best post defender in college hoops today.

Agreed, he played awesome. One of his better games as a hawk. Crow is tasting good.

He even looked somewhat athletic, which is unusual, IMO. Good hands on Defense, caught the ball and finished pretty good offensively. Yep. Good game for Woody, and good game for Iowa in general.

Yeah, you're right. The seven 4-5* players on their roster don't count for anything.

flog is being sarcastic. But there are plenty of posters in the game thread who are pretty certain this game means nothing. And yeah...this was tonight. Next week! Now, what have the Hawkeyes proven next week!?!?!?

Woody looked good.

But Uthoff mostly covered Ellenson and woody mostly covered the center.

Woody played well which was to be expected by anyone with a modest grasp of reality.

Ellensen is pretty talented but a big guy can't do much surrounded by all those poor guards.

This game could be very important come NCAA selection time. Good win against Big East team on their court.

Woody always plays good D and scraps for boards. The key tonight is he made his lay ups. Those lay up misses that we have seen so often have been the killers in his career.

He has also been converting at the free throw line

I think we can just assume that Ellenson will get fed up and end up transferring to Iowa St like a lot of players do from Marquette.

Ha! Actually, he'll improve, but he definitely had his welcome to D-I basketball game last night.

Ellenson is a great talent. He will be just fine. All young players have their ups and downs. Just a couple games ago the Iowa naysayers were ready to bury everyone on our team, especially the newbies. But guess what, they're getting things figured out. Love the Hawk ball movement. Creates open shots for everyone.

Iowa fans should just focus on what Woodbury is (solid post defender/rebounder, occasional double-digit scorer) as opposed to what he is not (a high-flying, gravity-defying, dunking machine, to name one).

Yep, people would certainly enjoy Hawkeye games more if they did, He is a great player in his own right.

I've seen a ton of great players, and Woody is not in sniffing distance of any of them. Sorry. But he did have a good game last night. Let's hope he has another and another.

So now you're going to explain to me what "in his own right" means. Can't wait...............

Holy hell...How about you read the post that I quoted in my original statement. But please go on insulting a 21 who works his tail off to help his team be as good as possible.

The fact you make a comment like that about a seven foot senior center is a pretty good example of how mediocre his offensive game is and always has been.

He gets a lot out of his abilities. Plays hard, works hard, great student, great teammate (from everything I've heard). Let's celebrate what we have because we need him.

Woody does have a mediocre offensive game, but I would take him every day of the week over Amir Williams, who was one of the most underachieving centers in college BB over the past few years. At least Woody always plays hard.

Good point Houston, I started to think and the answer was a definitely not. I cannot think of one moment in 4 years where I thought he wasn't going all out while on the floor. That to me says all you need to say.

Great, but..........................That's not what I responded to, which was "Woody is a great player in his own right" (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean). I have little doubt he's a really good guy and teammate.

What he isn't is a great player. It's a very simple statement, nothing more, nothing less.

Great is a relative term. How well would you do in a pick up game against Woody? He is a pretty damn good post defender ("One of the best in the country" per Steve Bardo). He is also a great teammate and a team leader. He and Uthoff just made Marquette's highly regarded post players look awful. Maybe it is time to stop knocking Woody and start cheering for him and the team. When he is done, I suspect that Woody will have started more games won than any other center in Iowa history.

Woody will get paid to play a game after college. That makes him better than good in my book. To each his own.
