For me it's usually books. Thank God the wife avoided trying to buy me a sweater or shirt. So many kids in Kenya wearing my sweaters.
This year the wife gave me a book in state parks in Minnesota. I guess that is kind of for her, too. We spend a couple of weeks per year in Minnesota visiting our son in Minneapolis, and hiking. Lots of parks left to get to.
Agent Zo, by Clare Mulley, which is about a Polish resistance fighter in WW2.
A Quiet Company Of Dangerous Men, by Shannon Monaghan, a book about the British SOE in WW2.
Operation Biting, by Max Hastings, another WW2 book. This one about a mission to capture German radar tech.
The Last Tsar, by Tsuyoshi Hasegawa. Self explanatory. Its about the fall of Nicholas 2
The Siege, by Ben MacIntyre, a favorite author of mine. It's about the six day standoff at the Libyan embassy in London
The Wager, by David Grann. Fiction about a shipwreck and murder in olden days. It's the same author as Killers Of The Flower Moon, so I have high hopes.
I received a sheet of quote stickers from Captain James T. Kirk from the goofy kid.
From the maybe son in law someday a replica of the Edmund Fitzgerald. I love the Great Lakes and the big ships, and, a lot of my days at work involve a catastrophe, so I'll keep it on my desk.

People always just buy me tools and tool accessories, and they did again this year. I got a step ladder type scaffolding, a cutoff tool, some cable organizers, and a shirt supporting my local library.

Happy Merry Christmas GIF by Laff

A leather backpack (perfect for my "personal item" while flying), pajamas, a really nice marijuana pipe set with a zipper case, pipe cleaners, etc., a t-shirt that says YODA DAD (with a graphic of Yoda on it), a gift card for the local car wash, some cash, and a men's fragrance gift box from my mother-in-law, like I get from her every year for every birthday and every Christmas.

Oh, and some solar powered balls that light up and float around the pool.

Your MIL must think you have an odor problem. Is she an Iowan? That seems Iowa passive aggressive.

No

It is not really that interesting, but my big gift is coming Monday. I am having a whole house generator installed. I ordered it right after Hurricane Helene came within 50 miles of wiping Tallahassee off the map, so it is just coincidence that it is being installed right after Christmas. I will be very happy if I never have to use it but based on the past several years, that is not likely.

What will the generator cost?

My wife gave me a listless handjob.

I received an 8 reale silver coin (piece of 8) from the 1622 Atocha wreck off the Keys. Much of my childhood was spent running around the salvors operation a block from our house. Mel Fisher had a replica Spanish galleon with a museum. The divers were basically hippies at the time and hated giving the tours. I’d hang out on the ship (no shirt/shoes) because the museum part had a/c and knew the tour by heart. They’d give me a dollar to do the tours for them. Tourists listening to a young local punk on the tour. Sometimes I changed the info just to have fun.

One of these. I would have preferred that it was red and yellow, but I'll enjoy it on Feb. 9, 2025 post game.

I have seen a couple of pieces from the Atocha over the years, including an ingot. When my brother picked up the ingot, he said it felt like “wealth” in his hands.

Me, I wonder how many kids died scraping that metal from the ground…

And how many died at the hands of the Spaniards taking over their lands.
