What Are You Willing To Pay For A Bottle

I like good bourbon and whiskey as well. I don't see much allocated stuff around here, outside of one store who runs everything at secondary prices, or worse. He has Eagle Rare on the shelf for $99.99, and Blanton's for $150, last I checked. I'm usually running with WT101, Rare Breed, or a Cedar Ridge offering. I'd like to get my hands on the EHT Barrel Proof, or some of the fun offerings from Makers Mark that we just don't see in our area.

I've gotten a few bottle picks from the Iowa Whiskey Chasers group on Facebook, and those have been solid. I've got a New Riff MGM Store pick and Heaven Hill Bottled in Bond in my office that I enjoy.

Last year a good friend, long-term client gave me a bottle of Tears of Llorona tequila as a present. It runs about $250 to $300 for a bottle. It was amazng;may buy myself a bottle this Christmas, assuming I am not gifted one.

One note, Tears is only sold in 1 liter bottles, so the ~$275 price range is for a larger bottle. Still pricey, but.....

It's certainly the smoothest, best-tasting liquor I've ever had. It would be high quality tequila from the start, but it's an "extra anejo blend" - aged for 5 years, in oak barrels that had been used for aging scotch, sherry, and brandy - then blended.

St. Augustine Distillers Select bottle #72. A 2024 release, it's very spicey, yet smooth on the pallet.
I have a bottle of that, I like it. Haven't opened that bottle yet but had it at the distillery.

Spent $300 on a bottle of blanton's gold. Most I've spent, the other 30 or so bottle I have range from $30 to about $125. I like buffalo trace, eagle rare, whellers, blanton's, old forester. Blaum Brothers is really good also.

I am a fan of high rye and high proof bourbons. I have the means to get what I want within reason. "Within reason" is different for everyone including me and my wife. I have multiple bottles in my cabinet that are in the $150-$200 range and a couple more than that.

Right now, I'm on the lookout for a bottle of Little Book Edition 1 "The Infinite". The msrp is $200 with secondary markets selling it for double that. I'd probably be willing to go to $300-$350. My wife doesn't understand that at all. What would you be willing to pay for a single bottle?
My after work bourbon is Maker's Mark and runs about $35/bottle. Pretty cheap.

I have an unopened bottle of Old Fitzgerald, 10-year old, Bottled in Bond that my wife paid somewhere between $350-$400. It was a present and Mrs NoStems wouldn't tell me exactly how much she paid. We picked up a couple of nice bottles on the Kentucky Bourbon trail a couple of years ago (Elijah Craig, Henry McKenna, Maker's Mark Cask) that have increased in value since purchasing in 21. All of the forementioned are stored and unopened. If I want a nice bottle for sipping I'll spend $100-$150.

The answer always varies based on your means. I buy the wife nice tequila every year but this year I may buy her a bourbon as she's been drinking old fashions when we're out.
I buy...a fair amount..of rum. I just picked up a $100 bottle but honestly I'm happy with ~$30 rums in general. Anything nicer than that is wasted on my palet.

I've never understood someone who buys a $100 bottle then mixes it with coke.

I guess the only answer I have is $0.00.

I used to drink a lot when I was younger.

Now I rarely drink. Never liked to drink around my kids and still don't.

I've had two glasses of wine in the last few months. No beers or hard alcohol I don't believe.

I don't miss it.

I think it's somewhat pathetic that many adults need alcohol to have fun. I also find it pathetic how society views alcohol consumption.

There's not a sporting event that happens without a dozen or so alcohol advertisements.

It's kind of sad when you think about it.

A try to stay under a hundred a bottle of beer, though I have had nights where I have paid much more.

I also have had had nights where they paid me to drink their beer…just depends on how hot the machines are running.

I've been to that distillery in Bardstown KY. Awesome facility.
I've wanted to get there. The wife no pics and I had plans to go to the Bardstown area in the fall of 2023 but then those plans fell through when we realized we needed to have some work done on the foundation of our house and the vacation money was better spent on that haha.

We've discussed making plans for it next year though. Hoping it'll happen.

Been there, brother. You'll get there when the time is right.

Him and everyone else. Although I do have Weller 12. I've sampled the white (it's good, not great, certainly not worth secondary). Antique Weller 107 is the best of the standard lineup IMO.
Snagged a Weller 12 today. My regular store told me Monday they would have a shipment friday, and held me a 12. Wasn't sure the MSRP, or if I was supposed to tip the guy that held it (I didn't). I paid $65 (including the taxes)

I've paid around 200 dollars for Don Julio 1942 a number of times and haven't ever regretted it. I also drank a bottle of 40 dollar Cazadores Anejo with a friend many years ago at a wedding reception and it shocked me with how good it was. I think what I'm trying to say is that I've tasted a whole lot of tequilas over the years and about the only thing I can say with certainty is that for me, aged is the way to go. Anejos are always superior. Great tequila takes time to produce. And that probably mirrors what most fans of other liquors would say.

Got this for my SIL while out hunting, at the recommendation of my brother.

I bought my buddy one of those ~$175 whistle pigs when his mom died. It was good, but I’m not connoisseur, so the woodford would have been fine for me.

I don’t drink much, but I like a mojito in the pool. I smuggle Havana club 750ml bottles in from international duty free when possible. It’s usually like $30 and is the best in the world.

If I’ve tasted something and love it, I’ll pay secondary for it knowing I’ll eventually sip on it for special occasions with friends or to put into charity tastings for a great cause. Whiskey is better when it is shared with friends.
Probably Dropped too much on Four Roses 135th and Lot B recently because they’re in my top 10, and I’m on the lookout for a 2024 Russell’s Reserve 15, WLW, or a Chessman dusty, because F it, you only live once.

My brother collects “allocated” bottles.

This was his “wishlist” and I didn’t know what any of them were:

Weller 12, (black label) Weller cypb (white label) or Weller (orange label)

Anything in the BTAC family, it’s a group of 5 bottles.
I've bought from this site before.

I have several friends who love St Augustine Distillery bourbon. For some reason, I'm just not into it. I live in St Augustine and I've been to that place a bunch of times. Their rum and vodka are great

I do not remember what I paid for the Old Rip Van Winkle 25 Year bottle, but it was somewhere around 52,000, so that is probably my limit.

Lots of ice and some Coke Zero; that stuff is smooth.

Ha, I do have some nice rums that I have mixed. But the high end ones get treated like a nice whiskey, either neat, on the rocks, or something like a Grog which is very similar to an old fashioned.
I have gotten pretty content with fairly inexpensive rum and ginger beer. That, or with a splash of water.
My buddy steered me to an Evan Williams 2015 single barrel. It is so smuuvah and less than a hundo per bottle.

That's retail. Nice snag.

If you want to try something similar (I actually think it's better), try Black Saddle 12 year bourbon. It's also a wheater.
