DjK likes him some Nate Stanley..

DJK tries to keep that spot light on himself. Perhaps that's not uncommon for high profile athletes.

I certainly enjoyed watching him play at Iowa and wish for his sake he had kept his personal life under better control.

It's also evident he is haunted by leaving without a relationship with Kirk. Yet it is also obvious he is afraid to confront Kirk. And from all I know, I too would be afraid were I DJK.

As most (or all) of you, I really enjoyed watching DJK play, from the huge game at the Big House to his KR TD vs OSU in the Shoe to the 1-handed out of bounds TD vs. Wisky and many others. It seemed in some games when everyone else was not giving max effort, he was, including at Minny in a stinker of a game around 2010 or 2011.
I just wonder what really happened with him, we all know about the drug house but was he a massive ego maniac and a bad teammate? Did he miss class and team meetings and lifting sessions? I'm sure he had words for Kok and Kirk about not getting the ball, etc, but as with most situations, its not as bad as Kirk and DjK have portrayed it, somewhere in the middle.

Didn't mean to stir the pot but saw a few tweets in another post and thought it was interesting. I wonder if he would just man up, admit to the drug stuff, apologize in person to the staff if they could all move on? I thought at one time Iowa removed his records from the complex, true?

Oh, and there's this..

No crap. What coach says that?

"Son, I really don't think you're good enough to play here but here ya go, have a scholarship."

If it were really the case he didn't think he was good enough to play there he would have said something more like what Hayden Fry said to me. "I don't think you can play here but we'd love to see you walk on"

This! I had the same convo with Coach Fry back in the day. Fortunately, for me, a couple of other schools thought differently.

That was the greatest thing about Coach Fry, never one to b.s. always shot straight and was genuinely one of the nicest, most sincere people I have ever met.

It just made my decision to play football or baseball for the hawks a little easier. :)

I am sure we will never know the entire story, but even DJK deserves a shot at redemption if he is sincere. As one person mentioned he did give the effort on game day. I don't recall ever seeing him lay down or not give the extra effort. Some examples were listed but I also remember him drawing a critical PI flag during that very memorable last drive to beat Mich State in '09 at the very end of the game. I believe he enhanced the visual a bit so the ref had to call it.

Yep, 2010 at Minnesota. DJK was just about the only one that came to play that day for us. Coker had 90 yards on 21 carries. Donahue averaged 47.5 yards on 4 punts. The defense collapsed towards the end of the game when holding a lead.

Top 25 Iowa against 2-9 Minnesota with an interim head coach. This has to have been one of Kirk’s worst losses during his tenure.

And it was COLD!!!!!!!!!!

Nate Stanley is the best QB we have had since CJ Beathard. He has the tools to be better, but CJ was off the charts with intangibles (outside of feeling rush). Better frame and better arm. If Nate Stanley becomes the field general he is capable of being this year, big things are going to happen.

Stanley is the ONLY QB we’ve had since Beathard, but I agree with your sentiment. One thing that’s really encouraging is that, from all I’ve read and heard, the other players really like and respect Stanley, and he’s a great leader much the same as CJB was. With more experienced targets and improved chemistry this year between the QB, receivers, TEs, and Brian Ferentz, I think our offense is really something to look forward to.

I'm convinced we have 2 or 3 RBs on the roster right now with a legitimate chance to be the best RB Iowa has had since.................

Akrum Wadley:D

I know, that was my point. We've had two damn good QBs to work with in a row (3 if you count Rudock, which I don't). I think that CJB is the #1 QB of the Ferentz era and we've had a few decent ones come through.

CJ was a different kind of leader. He has lived a life of football that is unique to any player that has come thru and has a charisma about him that raised the level of his team. Stanley has shown glimpses of it, but this is his year to be the man. Akrum was the man last year.

Must be some pretty elite green yer cheefin there. Can't quite agree on Beathard, however I do agree that this is Stans year to show out. Obviously I haven't been in the huddle with Stan, but he does seem a little stiff. Could use some demonstrative personality developement and charisma to infuse the Offense with confidence.

It is, in fact. What don't you agree with about Beathard? What Iowa QB you know got drafted in 3rd round and started 7 games as a rookie?

Stanley is a quiet kid and leads by example, but the team is looking at him at their #1 threat this year. I hope he has taken a step forward with his confidence level and can make plays better off schedule because he is the GOODS. Strongest arm in college football, or thereabouts.

I'm not going by the draft. I look more at their body of work at Iowa. I'm not out to get Beathard but he has NFL pedigree that helped him out there. I like Stan's chances to improve this year.

Under Ferentz the best qb so far is a healthy drew tate.. banks had an nfl line in front oh him.. Stanzi cost is 49 points In 09.. beathard is right up there Tate, if Stanley repeats the season he had and wins a conference title yeah he is with Tate maybe better

Noah Fant interview stated Stanley is much more confident and vocal now. So probably as to be expected a newbie was a bit apprehensive in telling people what they need to do, but sounds like he has stepped it up.

Healthy Drew Tate has been the best QB of the Ferentz era, as said above.

Two years ago I was expressing a combination of surprise and doubt or dissatisfaction to a pair of friends that are tight with the team and had seen the QBs play. It was when Nate beat out Tyler W for 2nd string. Tyler was the highest rank recruit on the team after all.

Both guys had seen a little of the practices and both said that I will love Nate Stanley. They were right. This could be a monster year for Nate if the receivers step up.

I’d say Ferentz’s best qb for a career is Stanzi. Best for a season is Banks (02) with Stanzi (09), Beathard (15), & Tate (04) close behind. Chandler (03) honorable mention.
