Sitting at #5, and probably staying around there (give or take a spot) if the Hawks keep winning, I have to assume it doesn't matter who Iowa plays in the CCG. I like Iowa's chances against Michigan or Michigan State. OSU still scares me with their mobile QBs and Ezekiel Elliot getting to the edge.

OSU scares me cause they are way more athletic than we are. I think Barrett gets them rolling again cause he brings a whole other dimension to the offense. I would much rather face MSU or Michigan, they play a similar style to us and neither offense scares me as much.

Give me Michigan. Feal better about our chances against UM and Rudock than the other 2 teams.

If Iowa plays a one loss team in the CCG, but still wins... I think it could get a little dicey. But then I tend to be too negative from time to time.

I don't think that is the case. We would not be playing Ohio State and all of its glorious past teams and players...we would be instead playing the 2015 Buckeyes, and while good, this 2015 version is not as formidable as Ohio State teams of the past.

Yes, Mich. St. would be my first choice followed by Michigan than OSU. Could go either way between the Michigan schools, I just feel that Michigan is more of the insurgant as opposed to MSU who is down a bit. Regardless, the styles these teams play are more preferential than OSU.

Hey, don't be surprised if Iowa falls from Number 5 over the next 2 weeks even if they continue winning. If Baylor does win out, they would have some convincing victories. So yeah, I still think it's in Iowa's best interests to face an undefeated defending national champion.

Without a doubt.

The committee has shown the willingness to shuffle things on a weekly basis. While #5 is great, it guarantees nothing. We need to face as high ranked a team as possible.

I still don't see any way we could beat OSU, they are just too talented heads and shoulders above us at every position. Give me ANYONE else to play in that title game.

I think Michigan will beat tOSU and get the nod and I like the matchup for us. Having said that, both tOSU and MSU have been overrated all year...bring it.

I think, like it or not, Iowa's placement is dependent on OSU winning out. Somehow they have to set themselves up so they won't have to leapfrog Iowa over a bunch of teams if they win out. Much much easier to drop them back and dismiss, and then choosing the next best resume. They just don't know what those resumes are at the moment. Iowa at #5 is insurance to go any way they want if the Big Ten doesn't go as expected.

Last 3 times we played Ohio state. 10 point loss that we lead at half, was tied in 3rd in 13. 4 point loss on a Terrelle Pryor 4th down scramble in 10. And one of the best b10 games of the 2000s a 3 point OT loss in 09.

I think I can pretty much guarantee Iowa wouldn't play Bama or Clemson in the CCG.

I thinks its more likely than not if we win out. The Hawks will slide in at #4 and play #1 would will almost surely be either Clemson or Alabama.

I'm really confused by this thread. I presume we want to be in the CFP so that we can prove we are the best... but at the same time want to avoid playing the best along the way? If we can't beat OSU, we know we are not the best, so the CFP is kinda irrelevant at that point.

If we get into the CFP, I don't want to back into it. I want to storm into it.

I was picking at 7thsummit....this thread is about possible Iowa opponents in the CCG...Conference Championship Game (not the playoffs). 7th's post made it sound like he wanted Iowa to play OSU, Clemson or Alabama in the CCG, which is obviously impossible in the case of Clemson and Alabama.

I totally agree.

Absolutely not. If we drop one (but no more) before then, it doesn't really matter. We'll be underdogs playing for a conference title and perhaps a Rose Bowl berth (depending on how things happen in the east division). If we don't lose and OSU doesn't, we're in the first round of the playoff in the Big Ten CCG. Prove we belong, or bow out and refocus on the Rose Bowl.

I think we want to play OSU. (We have to get there first, of course). If we lose to OSU in a competitive game, we may well be in the Rose Bowl. I can sure live with that scenario. If we get blown out, probably no Rose Bowl. If we lose to Michigan or MSU, we will be in the Holiday or Outback Bowl. While that is usually a fine reward, it won't be this year. Keep winning guys. There is nobody that you can't beat.

If we get that far, I'd rather play OSU. Why play a 1 or 2 loss team in a championship game? If we are good enough to beat OSU then we are good enough to play in the playoffs.

Listen, who the hell has OSU beat that we haven't, and who have they blown out? They aren't as tough as you think. If they play lights out I'm sure they are championship calliber, our goal is to (if we get to play them) keep them from playing lights out, which nearly every team has done. We have a decent chance at beating them...if CJB was 100% I'd put a good chance at beating them.

If it is Iowa verses f0$U in the conference championship game that means f0$U MORE THAN LIKELY will have beaten both MSU and Mich giving both teams more than 1 loss. Iowa finishing at 12-1, losing to f0$U would mean Rose Bowl as how can a 2-loss MSU or a 3-loss Michigan be above Iowa? Now, if f0$U losses to MSU or Mich, then does not get the CCG, they could steal the Rose Bowl if Iowa ends up 12-1 losing the CCG.

I just have a mental block playing Ohio State from years and years of futility. Agonizing futility in several instances.

Otoh, I won't be playing OSU and the 20 year-old kids who would be probably scarcely know or care about ancient (to them at least) history.

And I agree playing an undefeated and defending national champion may be required to hold off an undefeated Big 12 champ.

Bring on the Bucknuts!

I would expect them to jump over Iowa, actually. However, Iowa beating an undefeated OSU will jump Baylor.

He was saying give me OSU in the CCG and then Bama and Clemson in the playoffs. To be the best you have to beat the best. There was no 'or' in the statement.
